OK, that's two plays that Villar should have handled this inning. I was thinking, "he's going to have a shot at home," right off the bat. Frustrating that it's not even an out and a runner is now in scoring position.

Keon Broxton should be worrying about how a non-outfielder took his position instead of how much gum he can cram into his pie hole.

Well, he had a reasonably solid August and saved a game defensively the other day. What exactly should he be doing, breaking bats and knocking over water jugs?

I'd much rather see him taking everything in stride rather than sitting there stewing.

It's not like Sogard or Thames are must-haves in the lineup, if you care that much about getting Villar in the lineup, then bench one of those guys. Fine. But don't put an already average defender out of position in one of the most important defensive positions on the field.

The offense isn't hitting and he's been the hottest hitter. I definitely see the logic in it and I don't blame them at all.

If you want his hot bat in the lineup, put him at 2B or SS. No excuse for him to be in CF when Sogard hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire. Put Aguilar at 1B for the slumping Thames and Villar at 2B. Give Arcia a day and put him at SS. Villar should never see the OF especially given the "contender" status.

Counsell can think about this one for a long time if we lose a 1 run game and miss the playoffs by 1 game.

You think RRR still thinks about starting Kotsay in CF on that fateful night? If he doesn't, he SHOULD! errrrrrr :angry :angry :angry :angry

The offense isn't hitting so put in bad defense make errors and give up runs?

Yea that's what I said. No, you're risking some less D and hoping to get lucky that he doesn't get tested in order to get some extra runs. This is the first time it's burned them and Villar has been the hottest hitter. It's a calculated risk that you're simply hoping you make up more than you lose. It's not hard to understand.

If he HAD to be in the line up, then it should be at 2B... His natural position, it isn't like Sogard is mashing...

So put him at 2nd where he belongs, don't just put yourself in a position to give up extra runs defensively when you're not scoring. Is Eric Sogard really an essential cog for this lineup?

There are plenty of ways to work Villar into the lineup without sticking him somewhere he can't play.
