I know it's only low-A, but Houser looking really good so far in his rehab outings. Today only needed 38 pitches to get through three innings, striking out 4 and walking none, 26 of 38 pitches for strikes. Like Taylor Williams, there's a reason the Brewers protected him in the Rule 5.

I really can't believe that Nick Ramirez has pitched almost 80 innings this year after not pitching since 2011. If you throw out the first two months of the season (getting used to pitching again), June/July/August have been outstanding. What's also amazing is that he's averaging almost two innings per appearance and has faced twice as many RHH as LHH. He's not just a LOOGY.

Perrin, like Yamamoto, just keeps on trucking. Not quite as good as the ERA, as he has a .256 BAA, but when you don't walk many guys you can give up hits without getting in too much trouble.

McDowell and Rijo hit back-to-back homers in 5-3 Carolina victory

The Mudcats improved to 12-0 at home versus the Dash this season with the victory

By Carolina Mudcats

cut.jpg

Carolina Box Score

Carolina hitters scored five times in the first four innings - enough for the Mudcats to cruise to a 5-3 win over the Winston-Salem Dash. Wendell Rijo and Max McDowell hit back-to-back HRs in the 4th inning.

On the mound, Kodi Medeiros was ‘meh’ again, giving up too many baserunners - including three walks and eight hits. Still, he earned his 7th win of the year. Nate Griep struck out the side to earn his 28th save.

Carolina is 68-65 for the season.

Pitching Summary:

Kodi Medeiros: 5.1 IP, 8 hits, 3 ER, 3BB, 4K, win

Parker Berberet: 1.2 IP, 1 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4K, hold

Eric Handhold: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0K, hold

Nate Griep: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 3K, save

As noted above, Griep got his 28th save of the year. His ERA is 2.54, and batters have a .194 average against him. He leads the Carolina League in saves, 11 more than the next closest reliever. Relievers don’t get a lot of love in the prospect rankings but Griep, an 8th round pick in 2015 draft from Kansas State, has been outstanding for the past two years (he had 23 saves and a 2.05 ERA at Wisconsin last season).

Hitting Summary:

Monte Harrison: 2-3, BB

Lucas Erceg: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI

Cooper Hummel: 2-4

Wendell Rijo: 2-4, 2B, HR

Max McDowell: 1-4, HR

Carolina Game Log

Back-to-back HRs in the 4th sealed the deal for Carolina.

Furious Comeback Falls Short For Helena

Sky Sox Drop Game Two

Orf, Berry combine for seven hits in loss; Junior Guerra allowed just two hits for the second straight start in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday night

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

***

Colorado Springs Box Score

Nate Orf has hit more home runs in July and August (eight) than he had in all his prior career combined (six). He was 4-for-4 here, by the way, a triple shy of what would have been a 2nd cycle in less than two weeks. Rule 5 preview articles are going to love this guy.

Tyler Cravy, Tyler Webb. One was impressive here, another not. Speaking of Tyler's, see who grabbed the save for the Express.

Final, Game One: Jacksonville 1, Biloxi 0, eleven innings (scheduled for seven)

Final, Game Two: Jacksonville 4, Biloxi 1

Shuckers swept in doubleheader by Jumbo Shrimp

Dustin Demuth homered in game two of the twin bill

Boy, that sub-heading is grasping at straws, this was a truly discouraging offensive effort.

From the game summary linked above (which you should read in full - if nothing else, we've trained you to do that all season) --

Game one was a pitcher's duel, as Jon Perrin took a no-hitter into the seventh inning but didn't have any run support. The Shuckers ultimately lost 1-0 when a bases-loaded wild pitch scored the games only run.

AZL Rangers 15, AZL Brewers 1

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Not much context needed here as the good guys get creamed. Pat McInerney, Je'Von Ward, and Pablo Abreu each had two hits. McInerney smacked two doubles; Ward and Abreu each had one. It's only about 20 PAs, but the 17 year old Abreu has a .316/.381/.474 slash in Maryvale. Ward is hitting .304/.360/.380 since the second half began.
