Monday's Sky Sox/Express Game Canceled Due to Storm Damage at Dell Diamond

Series to Resume Tuesday

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Monday night's series opener between the Round Rock Express and Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Dell Diamond has been canceled due to damage occurred from the recent storms. There was minor wind and water damage to the playing surface and multiple locations throughout the stadium.

The series is scheduled to resume Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. Colorado Springs clinched a division win yesterday so tonight's game will not be made up.

"We are never quick to cancel a game, but after assessing the stadium, we feel it is in our best interest to cancel tonight's game," Express CEO Reese Ryan said. "Our staff is working around the clock to get the stadium back in shape in preparation for tomorrow's game."

The front office staff is working internally, along with the Pacific Coast League office, to formulate a plan to help those in distress following Hurricane Harvey. The team will make those plans public once they have been able to see where and how they can best help.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected from the recent hurricane," said PCL President Branch Rickey. "Baseball serves as a 9-inning break from the real world and now, more than ever, fans in Texas need that comfort. Express baseball will return to provide that starting Tuesday. We're proud to work with them to formulate a plan to help those in need."

Yep, just turned 21 back in June. At 5'11" he doesn't have a ton of projection left, but the changeup is supposed to be major league level. If he has a plus change that tails in on RHH and a plus slider that sharp breaks away that can be devastating without putting a ton of stress on the arm.

11 ks through 5 innings of shutout ball for Peralta tonight.

Where is my brain? All I could think of was wondering why Wily was starting...

My only concern about Freddie is him transitioning to MLB with only two pitches.

There's a reason I had him #1 in the last poll. Wasn't a joke, or to make a point. His k rate at that age in AA is crazy. His delivery is effortless. Even I don't think he will be true ace of aces type, but I believe he has the best chance to have t hat kind of ceiling vs Hader, Burnes, Ortiz, etc.

I've been extremely high on him since last year & he only continues to be more dominant. Like I've said, he is the righty Hader.... I had a big breakdown about it like a month ago. He is nasty, unhittable, huge k rates and only reason he gets in trouble is his walks. Short but the low effort delivery makes for less concerns about starting long term. His Bbs will be the hurdle. Peralta & Herrera are looking like pretty great get for Lind! Keep buying those lottery tickets Stearns!

When do you ever really think that though? I mean...even the best pitching prospects, you can only hope that they become true, legit aces. There are what...10 of them in all of baseball? If that. Just the fact that we're starting to pile up these guys is what's important to me. We have more young pitchers who are exceeding their expectations at a younger age than I can ever remember. At least since we had Neugabauer and Sheets and even then I don't remember the depth we currently have(not saying anyone we currently have is on their level, so no need to point out that Burnes doesn't have Neugabauer's stuff, just the number of talented pitchers with at least 2/3 type updside is greater).

RHP Jorge Lopez threw 52 pitches over the final three frames, he'll be unavailable for a bit; Shuckers had to take four of five coming into this series, giving the first game away was tough, now two more to go for a realistic chance in the final week at postseason play.

Troy Stokes, Jr. three hits including a double, Clint Coulter two base knocks as the corner outfielders had nice games.

Wisconsin Box Score

What a fine season for RHP Thomas Jankins, as touched on often in game summaries, podcasts, and Link Report comments. A true horse, only 69 shutout pitches here, but he's done plenty in terms of quality innings in 2017.

First baseman Ronnie Gideon on base three times, including a double.

Overall, too late in the season to do much about all those batting averages you see in the box score. Take pride in the win and move on, come on back home to Grand Chute.

Thank you, Adam Lind.

Darn you! :laughing

AZL Brewers 3, AZL Reds 1

AZL Brewers Boxscore

The Brewers win a low-scoring affair in their first time back out on the field since the Julio Mendez incident on Saturday. Nick Egnatuk had half of the Brewers' 4 hits, including a double. Pablo Abreu hit a double as well for his first stateside extra base hit.

Phil Bickford made another 60-ish pitch start, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing a run on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 5. In case you missed it in the AFL thread, Bickford is AFL-eligible and it would seem likely that he's ramping up to start a game or two a week in the fall league. Recent high schoolers Justin Bullock and Cam Robinson threw 2 scoreless innings apiece.

All the healthy AZL pitchers should get on the hill at least one more time. There are four games remaining on the regular season schedule, including an off day on Friday. The Brewers are also guaranteed at least one playoff game. (All AZL playoff games are single-elimination.) They could earn a bye in the first round by finishing with one of best two overall records in the AZL. Currently they have the 3rd-best record, trailing the Giants by a game and a half for second. They are three games behind the Dodgers for best overall record. There are no more Brewers-Giants games remaining, but the Baby Brewers can help themselves on Tuesday when they face the Dodgers.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Pablo Abreu supplies all of the necessary offense:

AZL Brewers Top of the 2nd

Ernesto Wilson Martinez walks.

Robie Rojas flies out to center fielder Mariel Bautista.

Robert Henry walks. Ernesto Wilson Martinez to 2nd.

Pablo Abreu doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Mariel Bautista. Ernesto Wilson Martinez scores. Robert Henry scores.

Yeison Coca flies out to left fielder Reshard Munroe.

Jesus Lujano called out on strikes.

Errors Hurt Brewers In Loss

Brewers commit four errors, leave eight men on base in 6-1 defeat at Dehler Park

By Garrett Greene / Helena Brewers

Helena Box Score

Five hits, four errors, one loss. As the subheading notes above, the fault here lies as much with the offense as it does with the defense (well, it's the same people really). Despite 9 baserunners, the Brewers could only scratch across a lone run. They lose whether or not they have four errors.

If the Brewers had a Rattlers-type player of the game, it would probably be righty Robbie Hitt. Hitt has been pretty good for the most part, and was again here with 2 innings of earned run-less ball, allowing just a couple of hits and striking out 4. He's someone to keep tabs on going forward, an under the radar player if you'd like. A former teammate of Wisconsin righty and personal favorite Tom Jankins at Quinnipiac, Hitt received a $100k bonus in the 24th round, which is quite a bit for a college player taken in that area of the draft. He has a dropped 3/4 delivery similar to Carlos Herrera, nearing sidearm. Throws across his body as well. He gets into the low 90s with his fastball, and as far as I am able to tell, has a slider too. There's very little video and/or scouting info on him, so that's about as specific as I can get at the moment. He should be with the Rattlers next year so we'll know more about him then.
