Braun needs a day off......

The day off is what set this trainwreck in motion.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Braun another failed chance at a run in scoring position.

Counsell lost some faith he had from me tonight with Perez leading off. Flat out stupid. Not one reasonable reason for it. Perez is not good.

Perez is good in the sense that he can provide defensive value from basically any position which allows maximum roster flexibility and he occasionally has some pop off the bench. Counsell basically treats him as a de facto starter though, which is insane.

BCB I think wrote something about this. The more you play Perez, the more he's exposed, so you want to limit the amount of plate appearances he gets.

I'm really trying hard to recall without looking it up when the last time Braun went yard was.

Dude is still a good player, but he's no longer a special one. He looks basically like a .270 hitter who will give you a .850 OPS and 15-20 HR in 110-120 games.

I guess if there's a silver lining he's stayed generally healthy since he came back from the DL.

Just give us decent numbers and 120 games a year the next 3 years and I'll be happy. It appears the point of him drawing any real trade interest has come and gone.

August 12th against the Reds. Before that it was July 22nd against the Phillies. Before that it was July 14th against the Phillies. Interesting that 7 of his 13 home runs this year have come against the Phillies or Reds.

While Braun needs to do a better job with RISP, adambr2 is overreacting a bit here. He hit 30 a year ago. 25 a year before that. Is he in a slump at the moment? Sure. But just a week ago many places reported how he had his highest hit velocity and line drive rate of his career and was just in a bad luck streak. He still is a very special hitter. Unfortunately this season hasn't been of all much luck to him. Hopefully that turns around down the stretch.

Not really. His BABIP is .305 which is a little low but not ridiculously off his career norms, which at this point in his career are likely going to trend to the lower side. There's a reason, actually a lot of reasons there wasn't trade interest in him this year.

He's been hitting the ball hard at times in this stretch and popping up at others. 15-20 HR and 110-120 games definitely seems about right this year. I guess 'special hitter' depends on your definition but I don't look at him as one of the elites in MLB anymore.

He was so snake bitten for about a two week period. Drop in the 8 more hits that he probably should have had and boom he's at his career norms of .300BA/.900OPS

Hitters like him rarely disappoint. They're special. Consistency is very hard to find at that level. That's why I still call him special. So many guys have 1-3 good seasons and you never hear their name again.
