DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

The Astros scored ten in the first and five more in the second as they routed the Brewers co-op team by a score of 16-4. Two Brewers hurlers saw action on Friday and they were the only two pitchers not to give up a run. Jefry Tamares went 1.2 hitless innings, striking out two, while Melvin Mendez worked the final two innings without allowing a run. Yorki Franco and Elian Gonzalez each tripled and Jose Pena went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Nice to see that trio of starts from A-AA tonight.

Brown had a bad couple of outings after coming off the DL, but he's put together quite the second half. While it hasn't been quite as noticeable, Webb's numbers have improved as well. Hopefully at least one of them can use a strong second half as a springboard into next season the same way Brandon Woodruff seemed to a couple of seasons ago.

Amen to that. Really hoping that Webb is healthy now and can find what it was that made the Brewers draft him before Corbin Burnes. Really hoping that Ponce can develop a swing-and-miss pitch, as the low K totals are a bit concerning.

Braden Webb's and Zack Brown's lines at low-A this year are eerily similar in terms of WHIP, BB/9, K/9; Brown has a slight advantage in HR/9, but Webb has an advantage in BAA-A.

Erceg finishing strong; wasn't taking pitches earlier in the season, but in August has a 11/15 BB/K ratio. Corey Ray... his season can't end soon enough. I will be absolutely shocked if the Brewers send him to the AFL over Gatewood.

Final: New Orleans 5, Colorado Springs 4, ten innings

Cakes Even Series With 5-4 Extra-Inning Win

Colabello reaches safely in nine straight at-bats to start four-game series; Angel Ventura struck out five and allowed three runs over five innings

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox used a four-run sixth inning to come from behind, but the New Orleans Baby Cakes scored a run in the 10th inning to walk off with a 5-4 win in front of 9,151 at the Shrine on Airline Friday night.

New Orleans took a 3-0 lead on a home run from Brian Anderson.

But the Sky Sox (76-53) fought back with a four-run sixth inning without a ball safely leaving the infield. Chris Colabello grounded an RBI infield single between Peter Mooney and Anderson to score Quintin Berry, who broke up William Cuevas' no-hitter with an infield single of his own.

Brett Phillips and Nate Orf followed Colabello with bases-loaded walks for the third and fourth free passes of the inning. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ivan De Jesus, who both drew walks, trotted home to tie the game. The Sox took the lead one pitch later, when Clayton Mortensen unleashed a wild pitch on the first toss to Tyler Heineman, allowing Colabello to score and give the visitors a 4-3 lead.

RHP Bubba Derby (4-0, 3.38 ERA) takes the mound for the Sox Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. MT, looking for his third straight win and second in a row against RHP Keyvius Sampson (5-4, 5.85 ERA) and the Baby Cakes. With the Oklahoma City Dodgers getting rained out Friday night, the Sox magic number remains at three.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Veteran Chris Colabello's line in 36 games with the Sky Sox now .299/.404/.488.

Colorado Springs Game Log

The game summary doesn't mention that RHP David Goforth blew the save in the 9th (I watched it live). The wild pitch in the sequence below was an incredibly wild pitch - so wild it bounced back fiercely to catcher Tyler Heineman and the safe call at the plate may have been overturned if replay were in place. Despite his own mess, Goforth managed to salvage the inning and it went to the 10th.

New Orleans Bottom of the 9th

Moises Sierra walks.

Brian Anderson singles on a line drive to right fielder Brett Phillips. Moises Sierra to 3rd.

Ramon Cabrera pops out to second baseman Mauricio Dubon in foul territory.

Cal Towey walks. Brian Anderson to 2nd.

With Jake Elmore batting, wild pitch by David Goforth, Moises Sierra scores. Brian Anderson to 3rd. Cal Towey to 2nd.

David Goforth intentionally walks Jake Elmore.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Grant Green replaces Javy Guerra.

Grant Green strikes out swinging.

Steve Lombardozzi Jr. called out on strikes.

New Orleans Bottom of the 10th

Defensive Substitution: Kyle Wren replaces pitcher David Goforth, batting 6th, playing left field.

Pitching Change: Tyler Cravy replaces David Goforth, batting 2nd, replacing left fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Peter Mooney singles on a ground ball to third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr.

Eury Perez out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Tyler Heineman to second baseman Mauricio Dubon. Peter Mooney to 2nd.

Moises Sierra grounds out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Chris Colabello.

Brian Anderson reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr. Peter Mooney scores.

Brewers Force Extras, Fall To Osprey

Helena scores a run in the ninth to force extras, fall in 10 to the Osprey

By Garrett Greene / Helena Brewers

Read how the H-Crew tied it in the 9th, lost it in the 10th, and all the earlier scoring recapped as well.

***

Helena Box Score

Tristen Lutz, DH'ing here, singled and twice was HBP - he stole a base but was also picked off once.

Overall, the lineup does show promise that next year's Timber Rattlers will be more fruitful offensively than this season's Wisconsin bats, but then again, the element change from the Pioneer League atmosphere to the Midwest League (especially April/May) environment is daunting for nearly all.

ECREG with a whopping 76 RBI wow

Count me among the dinosaurs that value run producers. It's not like the guys at the top of the order at Carolina have been on base machines. Some guys have a knack for hitting with men on base. Some don't. Would like to see him spend a short time at Biloxi next year and move on to AAA. With Shaw around, no rush but he could hit enough to be in the 1B mix by 2019.

ECREG with a whopping 76 RBI wow

Which leads the Southern League. He also has a .840 OPS with RISP.

Corey Ray's 145 Ks also lead the Southern League. Luis Aviles' 135 Ks is 3rd, Trent Clark's 133 is 4th, and Jake Gatewood's 132 is 5th. Four of the top 5 strikeout totals in the league, that's why they're .500 with this much talent.

Final: AZL Brewers 6, AZL Indians 4

Maryvale Box Score

A-Crew was down 4-0 heading to the top of the 8th, but scored all their runs in that one frame.

After early scuffles, 18-year-old 4th round LHP Brendan Murphy has made three consecutive two-inning appearances without allowing an earned run.

Speaking of 18-year-old high draft picks, 5th round 3B Nick Egnatuk had the pro game of his career despite his 13th error in 29 contests. Egnatuck reached all five times, double and two walks included, lifting his OBP to .373. 39th round RF Robert Henry reached in all four plate appearances, raising his OBP to .410.
