By Carolina Mudcats

Carolina Box Score

Mudcats pitching was slapped around for 11 hits and surrendered six walks - allowing the Winston-Salem Dash to defeat Carolina 7-3. Marcos Diplan was not in control of his stuff this evening. In addition to giving up eight hits and four walks - he didn’t strike out a batter.

Lucas Erceg paced the Mudcat hitters, smashing his 14th HR of the season - and tying Troy Stokes, Jr. for the team lead.

Mudcat hitters did themselves no favors, going 1-9 with runners in scoring position and stranding nine.

Pitching Summary:

Marcos Diplan: 5.2 IP, 8 hits, 7 ER, 4BB, 0K, Lose

Wuilder Rodriguez: 1.1 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, 3K

Carolina Game Log

The big blow on Tuesday was in the 6th inning, when the Mudcats gave up four runs - with all the damage coming with two outs. Walk, double, walk, double, single, wild pitch. That ugly sequence of events crushed the Mudcats hopes.

Bryant Flete grounds out, second baseman Isan Diaz to first baseman Weston Wilson.

Seby Zavala flies out to center fielder Corey Ray.

Brandon Dulin walks.

The good version of Nattino Diplan made a fine three-inning spot start.

Six-run 1st innings were made for the type of video package the Rattlers' production crew puts together. Fun!

Sky Sox Clinch Series With 3-1 Win

Colorado Springs take 12 of 16 from Oklahoma City in season series

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

cut.jpg

Nate Orf had a two-hit night for the Sky Sox, his 27th two-hit game of 2017. (Paat Kelly photo)

From the summary above you'll read --

With the win, the Sky Sox magic number for clinching the division and a playoff berth is four games. The win also gives the Sox a 34-14 record against PCL American Northern division opponents, the best divisional record in Sox history since the league moved to a 16-team format in 1998.

And that is a fine summary -- sometimes we get more detailed stuff out of the Springs, the lower the game score is. These are the games that stand out! Those 17-9 contests are so routine.

***

Colorado Springs Box Score

RHP Wily Peralta hasn't allowed an earned run in five brief relief stints since his outright -- don't tempt the Brewers to bring you back, Wily! RHP Rob Scahill's AAA WHIP is 1.06 in 23 games.

Colorado Springs Game Log

More goodness from Ivan De Jesus, Jr. and Nate Orf, and Yadiel Rivera must have read my post about his offensive inadequacy a few days ago, red-hot as you read in the summary.

Missed Opportunities Hurt Brewers In Loss

Helena strands 10 men as All-Star pitcher Nelson Hernandez exits after one inning

By Garrett Greene / Helena Brewers

That summary heading and sub-heading say a lot. Man, hopefully Nelson Hernandez was just ill or something. Better not be a serious arm issue, I'm really looking forward to Hernandez in Wisconsin in 2018 in what will be his age 21 season.

***

Helena Box Score

RHP Robbie Hitt hit a batter for the 2nd time this season. Since he won't get an actual hit until the AA level, that's the next best reference.

Eleven hits are cool, only one walk isn't, and all the knocks but K.J. Harrison's home run was a single. Two more hits for Gabriel Garcia, and next year's Wisconsin offense could be intriguing.
