Victor Diaz rough season has continued in August after it looked like he was turning things around in July. After lowering his ERA with each appearance during the month of July he has surrendered 17 earned runs in four August outings and now sports an even 6.00 ERA.

Carolina managed three runs on just four hits - aided by a pair of Frederick errors. The win puts Carolina just one game away from being .500 for the year.

Colorado Springs rocks 19 hits, including nine for extra bases, 23 baserunners in all. And Brett Phillips had the day off.

CF Tristen Lutz had two hits, one a double; 19-year-old cleanup man Gabriel Garcia, playing first base, was on base four times, season OBP .405. Next year's Timber Rattlers offense should be fun to watch.

 

About those arms. Pioneer League's tough, but less so if you throw strikes. 2015 9th round pick RHP Karsen Lindell has walked 31 in 35 innings this summer, not ideal for sure.

The Brewers got a late run, and then held on in extra innings to win their third game in a row. Offense at the top of the order was scant, with the first five slots combining to go 2-23. Brent Diaz was the only member of the lineup to get two hits, one of which was a double. Personal favorite Rob Henry added a triple, a sac fly, and a sac bunt.

 

Austin Rubick started and pitched a career-high five innings. He was effective, if not dominant, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, to go along with 3 Ks. A trio of UDFAs - Tyler Thorne, Kody Rock and Kadon Simmons - covered the final six innings, allowing only an unearned run. Stanford alum Tyler Thorne has been particularly impressive during his AZL tenure, striking out 24 against 4 walks over 24 2/3 innings pitched.
