So it appears the two Dominican Summer League games from Thursday that were suspended won't be made up. The teams that they played aren't on the schedule the rest of the way. If that changes, we'll catch it.

Our intrepid Toby only has to post on two games today, not four...

I’ve been told that RHP Corbin Burnes will remain at Class AA Biloxi. News that he was promoted to Class AAA Colorado Springs is erroneous.

Luis Ortiz pitched in relief Friday night going two innings while giving up a run.

Bickford FB 91-93 tonight. As I said, no need to worry about his velocity.

That's good to hear, but I just don't know what to make of any of Bickford's velocity reports. The fact that he was hitting the mid 90's regularly before being drafted 10th by the Jays before negotiations broke down without any reason given combined with the fact that he was suspended 80 games for PED use and that his velocity has varied his entire career, it just doesn't seem like we got the hard throwing middle of the rotation or high leverage reliever we had hoped.

And here are the comments made by the Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos when talking about the reason why he didn't sign(this was just a year after they were unable to reach an agreement with Tyler Beede in the 1st round, something that was strictly because of the signing bonus. Anthopoulos was trying to respond to questions about the teams decision making.

“I know I’m being evasive on this, out of respect to all parties involved,” said Anthopoulos. “I guess I would just ask you guys to not jump to conclusions — you know, people immediately jump to money or greed or things like that. Without all the information I don’t think it’s fair, that’s all. Sometimes I wish I could say more, but I can’t.”

Does this at least raise the possibility that MAYBE the Jays got a positive test from Bickford or that he refused a test?

I try not to jump to wild conclusions and still hold out hope he can be a nice part of the future, but it seems like there's at least valid reasons to question that he'll be able to get his velocity back to where it once was without any help. I guess we can hope that he still has some projection left, because from what I did see of him, he had a lot of movement on his fastball and really nice command of it.

From the Biloxi game summary you read --

"With 17 games remaining in the regular season, the Shuckers will either remain 0.5 games out of first place or fall 1.5 games back depending on the result of Jacksonville's game at Mobile."

0.5 games out it is...

Overall Freddy Peralta now with 146 k's in 104 IP as a 21 year old in AA. Not bad at all!

Once he can improves on his 55 walks, then he'll start earning some real notice. But the guy's been effective - limiting hits in a big way (only 68 this year).

Staked to a 2-0 lead, Frank Duncan came out in the ninth and got ahead, 0-2, against Biloxi leadoff man Angel Ortega. Despite facing a "well-executed" slider, Ortega legged out a broken-bat infield single to end the no-hit bid.

Final: Colorado Springs 7, Iowa 3

Sky Sox Bounce Back

Four-run eighth fuels victory ahead of key series with Oklahoma City

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

From the summary you just read, linked above --

Iowa jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning of play, but the Sky Sox (72-51) responded and broke their long scoreless drought with two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. The first three Sox reached on hits against Iowa starter Pierce Johnson, capped by Nick Noonan's two-run single to score Chris Colabello and Nate Orf.

Colorado Springs Box Score

RHP Michael Blazek got the start as the "TBD" when his outright assignment became official (66 pitches); Brett Phillips doubled and walked twice; Yadiel Rivera 3-for-his-last-34, his 2017 AAA OPS (in the PCL) is down to .579, just above his AAA career line of .578. Couldn't replicate his .717 AA OPS, and it's going to cost him an extended MLB career.

AZL Brewers 6, AZL Athletics 4

AZL Brewers Boxscore

The most notable part of this win was the debut of 2nd round pick Caden Lemons. It was an efficient debut, with two fly ball outs and one ground ball out in his inning pitched. Phil Bickford pitched 3 more innings as he ramps up to perhaps join Carolina or Biloxi for the last few weeks of the season. Young lefties Brendan Murphy and Karlos Morales pitched as well.

Jon Olczak, rehabbing with the AZL team, left the game after one batter, deemed to be an "injured shoulder" by the game log stringer.

Pat McInerney and Brent Diaz both notched two hits. Both of McInerney's hits were doubles, as was one of Diaz's. Jean Carmona got his first stateside hit, a triple. Je'Von Ward joined the extra base fun as well, with a double. Rob Henry had a hit, walked twice, and stole two bases (his 14th and 15th).

5th round pick Nick Egnatuk returned to the field for the first time since July 31st after leaving that game with an injury.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Big inning, except for Egnatuk:

AZL Brewers Top of the 2nd

Nick Egnatuk grounds out, shortstop Nick Allen to first baseman Chris Iriart.

DSL Cubs2 2, DSL Brewers 0

DSL Brewers Boxscore

The Brewers' offense managed to be hit by more pitches (2) than get hits (1). Luis Avalo's 7th inning single saved the team from being on the wrong side of a headline.

Just-turned 17 year old Michele Vassalotti turned in another fine outing, working 5 innings while allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4. Jenri Montas and Oscar Brito kept the Cubs at bay for the final 4 innings.

DSL Brewers Game Log

The offense:

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 7th

Aaron Familia grounds out, first baseman Raymond Pena to pitcher Jesus Tejada.

Pablo Abreu grounds out, third baseman Ignacio Otano to first baseman Raymond Pena.

Luis Avalo singles on a line drive to left fielder Carmelo Alfonzo.

DSL Brewers Co-op 5, DSL Pirates 1

DSL Brewers Co-op Boxscore

Brewers batters accounted for one of the team's five hits and two of the team's five walks. Javier Castillo, three year DSL vet, is quietly hitting .309 this year and hit his 4th double. Luis Avila, he of a career .012 ISO, walked and nabbed three stolen bases.

Two Brewers pitchers, Juan Gomez and Jose Alberro, held the Pirates to one run though they both walked as many as they struck out.

It makes me sad that Makesiondon Kelkboom is not our guy/A Very DSL Inning:
