2017-08-16: Pirates (Cole) at Brewers (Nelson) 1:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 7-6, 5 homers vs 6 RBI singles]

hawing

I'll be completely honest here, and this is my personal take. Reading game threads this year is like reading Packer game threads on fb. (And im a packer fan)

"Bad call. We got screwed. Always happens to us" etc etc etc etc. It feels like with the advent of pitchtrax and gametrax everyone is either suddenly an expert or thinks the umps will stop sucking. Neither of these are true.

Well, I'm not a Packer fan, so I can't say anything to that.

Also, if you've read many of my posts you've noticed I don't single out 'us ' getting screwed. The whole thing is awful.

It becomes frustrating to see something that is easily fixable messed up time and time again.

I'll be sure to point out any time another poster mentions something that 'Bogs' down 6 pages.

Yeah... balls and strikes dont matter... not worth pointing out....

But if Barnes Ks a guy...and the ump squeezes him out of the k... then the guy hits a hr... i dont want to read 12 posts about how barnes blows... when its pretty clear the blow-er was the ump.

Its been quite absurd some games this year... today was a bad one where the strike zone seemed to shrink and expand every half inning. I try to be unbiased... and i find myself going... ok cole just got a K on that... how is a pitch by nelson the next inning... in 4 inches and over the plate a ball.

Fact is umps put up 2 runs in the 3rd today. That's an annoying take?... well its also correct and honest.

The scary thing is how much worse it used to be. Umps today are great compared to 10+ years ago. Today we ***** about an inch or two off the edge, in the past some pitchers got 6+ inches off the corners all the time.

That's almost detrimental because now players take pitches that are borderline with the expectation that it will always be called a ball. The whole "foul off pitches until you get the one you want" is a dying aspect of baseball (at least for the way the Brewers are constructed). If you had an erratic up, I would think that players would be more agressive at the plate.
