The constant complaining about the umps is really getting old. You guys sound like little kids at a little league game thinking the umps are out to get you. Odds are, every team we play is probably getting the same treatment as we are...

To be fair...i have complained on both sides. But in response that it's the same treatment...it isn't. I've posted the link to the study a few times. The Brewers are in the bottom 3rd and negative in strikes called for them. Like negative 100...whereas the Dodgers were like plus 240 strike calls...through June only.

It's clear strike zones are influencing games. If you want to believe it or not is up to you.

Exactly Stout.

Over a long enough timeline, a few decades or so, I'm guessing this stuff would pretty much even out.

Over 1 seaaon, it doesn't. People assume it does and it's cliche to say it all evens out, but it's just not true. Thus my earlier comment that these guys are influencing pennant races.

So, the umps ARE out to get us then?

I didn't intend to day that. I specifically pointed to last night where it was a benefit.

Overall, it isn't even is all.

Shaw rung up on a ball. Can't believe this is OK with some of you.

I can't either. Ueck and the radio guys have mentioned it. The tv guys have mentioned it. We are not complaining for the sake of complaining.

Over the course of a season, some teams benefit much more from bad strike zones than others. I'm not saying umpires are out to get us or attempting to explain it in any other way than simply saying that is a fact.

I really don't understand what it is about that, that you and Doc don't believe or understand.

I think the umpires have actually gotten better since they started getting feedback maybe 10 (?) years ago.

The difference is having the strike zone in the corner of the TV screen. If it wasn't for that, I would have no idea if most of these borderline pitches are balls or strikes. It is simply impossible for an umpire to get those right.

I still favor a challenge system rather than a robotic strike zone.

Challenge would slow an already slow game down. The ump can simply have a buzzer on his arm that call ball or strike. Something like that since you can't have him with his head down in a IPAD. It's intant, consistent, with no delay. And the ump doesn't lose his job so IDK what the union can complain about. He still has to be there for foul tips, plate calls, check swings, etc.
