Via the Snappers --

BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers game on Wednesday at Pohlman Field has been postponed due to inclement weather and wet field conditions. A doubleheader has been scheduled for Thursday with two seven-inning games beginning at 4:00 PM to make up the contest and complete their four-game set.

The rain out is the fifth opening lost at Pohlman Field in 2017 by weather that resulted in a cancelation or postponed game. The Snappers and Timber Rattlers have experienced the suspension or postponement of three games in their season series, two of them in Beloit.

Quick Summary:

It was Corbin Burnes day and while he did not have a dominating start it was still a solid day on the hill. Burnes went 5.1 innings giving up two runs and striking out five General batters. Matt Ramsey shut the door in the bottom of the 10th to send the Shuckers home winners.

Takes from tonight:

Jungmann deserves another big league look. Thing with him, when he is Clicking & confident.... you need to ride him! He has proven himself before. He is not as consistent as you may want but if he is throwing strikes, he is a darn good pitcher. We know that. When he is throwing the way he has, he can get big league hitters out.

Stoked will never get love he deserves. The kid will be an MLB player. 4th OF or starter, regardless... there is a reason he was the OF promoted & a reason he is hittting over .300 for Bioloxi. Kid can play ball.

Burnes is who he is. Guy can pitch at any level.

Griep.... why the heck is he still at Carolina? Please someone explain?! Dominated as a closer with Trats & for Mudcats past two years. No clue why he's been passed over.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

Carolina Box Score

SS Luis Aviles 30-for-37 in SB's, OPS .576, though; speaking of 30-for-37, that's exactly the career mark for sneaky/smart basestealing catcher Max McDowell. Clark, Ray, Harrison, and Erceg all reached base twice, so despite the low-scoring game (and win, thank you), we'll take those results.

Carolina Game Log

Seems like fans keep waiting for Jordan Yamamoto to reach a talent wall, and he never does. So, so solid, looking forward to Biloxi success next summer.

Dominate for Griep is a little strong. Nice ERA (2.05 in '16, 2.18 in '17), but his K and BB rates went from good last year (8.5 and 2.8/9IP) to weak this year (7.4 and 4.4). Its his first year at A+ and he hasn't repeated any level. So I don't know why you think he has been skipped.

I do agree about Jungmann however. He has rebounded nicely, especially at AAA this year.

AZL Dodgers 6, AZL Brewers 0

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Another day, another surprise promotion from the DSL, another loss. As I said above, 17 year old bonus baby Jean Carmona was promoted stateside after a successful DSL campaign and started at shortstop for the AZL club. He did not experience the success that Ernesto Martinez did the day before, however, as he was hitless (and walkless and strikeout-less) in four plate appearances. Small bit of good news - Carmona had 18 errors (.919 FPCT) in the DSL and played clean defense in this game, albeit on all of three chances. Carmona slashed .302/.406/.447 for the main DSL squad. In addition to the excellent OBP, his ISO of .145 was about 1.7 times DSL league average. So the 6'1, 183 pound switch hitter has some thump. The concept of a 17 year old Latin American signee playing in the AZL for the Brewers is somewhat novel, and encouraging. Then again, the same was said about Gilbert Lara.

I'll keep an eye out on the DSL box score today to see if any other position player is suspiciously missing.

Ernesto Martinez followed up his monster stateside game one with an 0-4 of his own on Wednesday, striking out once. Julian Jarrard (get this guy out of Arizona) had another two base knocks, and Julio Mendez notched a double.

Wilfred Salaman got tagged for 5 runs over his 4 1/3. 11th rounder Max Lazar allowed a run in two innings of work, striking out 3. Lazar has yet to walk anyone through 9 1/3 pro innings.

Mike Gonzalez had his second encouraging outing in a row, though his ERA and WHIP are still eye-averting, and will be pretty much no matter what he accomplishes for the remainder of the season. It is an important reminder that at this level, there is a need to parse stats a little more than normal. If Gonzalez pitches another 10 scoreless innings, his ERA is going to still be 8.62, but there was also clearly progress made.

AZL Brewers Game Log

As close as the Brewers got to scoring:

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 3rd

Leugim Castillo grounds out, shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena to first baseman Eric Meza.

Julio Mendez doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder Shakir Albert.

Yeison Coca singles on a ground ball to right fielder Felix Osorio. Julio Mendez to 3rd.

Jean Carmona reaches on a fielder's choice out, first baseman Eric Meza to catcher Alvaro Rubi. Julio Mendez out at home. Yeison Coca to 2nd.

Ernesto Wilson Martinez strikes out swinging.

Just a reminder, today's regular DSL game was played a few weeks ago, so just the co-op team was in action. Recap up later.

DSL Brewers Co-op 8, DSL Rays2 4

DSL Brewers Co-op Boxscore

Let's talk about Bryan Torres. The 20 year old Puerto Rican catcher is a bit old for DSL ball. But he has been superb this year, his third in the league. The lefty-swinging backstop sports a .313/.399/.398 slash. The slugging may not seem extraordinary, but keep in mind that DSL league slugging hovers around the .085 ISO mark. So he's hitting for league average power while striking out - get this - 6 times in his 149 plate appearances this year. Six. That works out to a 4% K rate. Through 346 pro PAs, he has a 6.4% K rate. That's insane. He's not a slash and dash hitter either, as his 11.8% career walk rate attests to. Good fly ball rate at 34.1% this year. Uses all fields as he pulls the ball only 40.8% of the time. Oh, and on defense, Torres has thrown out 46% of potential base stealers. He's even shown some positional versatility, playing first, second, and third.

Stats aren't everything and there may well be some quirks about his game that prohibit him from being a prospect but man, Bryan freaking Torres.

The co-op squad also played a game on Tuesday, and won it. Torres got two hits (did not strike out), and Javier Castillo matched that hit total. One of Castillo's was a double. Luis Avilia went hitless but walked 3 times. Even though he didn't have a PA in Tuesday's game I should mention that Torres' backup, Ismael Rosado, is hitting .350/.418/.417 himself.

As for the pitching, there was none, unless you're willing to count Indians pitchers. Which I'm not.

DSL Brewers Co-op Game Log

The winning inning:

DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 7th

Luis Avila walks.

Makesiondon Kelkboom out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Ender Cespedes to first baseman Robert Valera. Luis Avila to 2nd.

Bryan Torres singles on a line drive to left fielder Johampher Arrendoll. Luis Avila to 3rd.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Elian Gonzalez replaces Bryan Torres.

Pablo Jimenez walks. Elian Gonzalez to 2nd.

Pitching Change: Rodolfo Sanchez replaces Ender Cespedes.

Julio Cabrera doubles (2) on a line drive to right fielder Diego Infante. Luis Avila scores. Elian Gonzalez scores. Pablo Jimenez to 3rd.

Rafael Brito singles on a line drive to left fielder Johampher Arrendoll. Pablo Jimenez scores. Julio Cabrera scores.

Javier Castillo singles on a line drive to right fielder Diego Infante. Rafael Brito scores. Javier Castillo to 3rd. Throwing error by right fielder Diego Infante.

Derian Perez pops out to shortstop Abiezel Ramirez.

Bryan Dimas grounds out, shortstop Abiezel Ramirez to first baseman Robert Valera.
