2017 Wisconsin Football Thread

owbc
Been kind of playing the waiting game on buying tickets for B10 championship hoping prices might tick down a bit. Will probably not buy them if the Badgers lose today. Need to take care of business.

I mean the only way they were going to trend down is if something happened(Wisconsin losing) at which point you wouldn’t want them. With every passing week the Badgers odds of playing for a playoff spot increases as do ticket prices.

Maybe if OSU loses today the ticket prices might take a hit? Probably not to where they were when Wisconsin originally clinched though.

Yeah I’m kind of hoping OSU loses to take em down a notch. Probably won’t matter but some of these tickets I’m seeing seem really overpriced.

Miami lose is huge. Michigan over OSU today will beef up our strength of victory but biggest Xfactor to me is Bama must beat Auburn & win out. If Auburn wins, committee will without a doubt keep Alabama over Wisconsin with 1 lose & no way Auburn wouldn’t jump Wisconsin. To them SEC is gold. Georgia losing would be nice but don’t see it.

Miami loss really doesn't mean much, either way the ACC is getting no more than 1 team in, they were never going to take a 1 loss non-champ Hurricane team over undefeated B10 champ Wisconsin.

Rest easy, we win today and vs. OSU we'll be in.

You say that now. But just wait until Auburn beats Bama and then wins the SEC Title and the four teams wind up being Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma while WI sits there at 5 wondering what the heck happened.

I concur with that. Here's how I see things going to Championship Week

1. Oklahoma

2. Auburn

3. Clemson

4. Alabama

5. Wisconsin

6. Ohio State

I'm rooting hard for a Clemson loss to South Carolina. Then I think Wisconsin jumps to 3 or 4 and Clemson drops out.

Honestly Alabama should drop to #5 and Auburn and Wisconsin should both enter the Top 4. Even Alabama’s two Top 25 wins were rather unimpressive. And NO FSU was not a ranked anything in my book.

Wisconsin should slot in at #4 going into next weekend.

I’m over the rankings. They’re all for talk. Badgers win and they’re in. Nice to stomp on a team like they did today.

There is no way the only undefeated power 5 is left out if we win next week. I'm glad bama lost because it forces the committees hand. Either they show this whole thing is a sham and keep bama in there or drop bama to where they deserve.

They are definitely in if they win out, the only question if they win out is if they will be the 1 seed.

Badgers definitely won't be the 1 seed. The committee will probably put them at #3 maybe #2.

If Georgia wins and Clemson wins they are #1 and #2. Basically it comes down to Wisconsin or Oklahoma at #3 and #4. The only way Wisconsin gets into the discussion of #1 or #2 is if Auburn beats Georgia. That also probably allows Alabama into the playoffs. Alabama then becomes the 3 or 4 seed with Wisconsin or Oklahoma moving up to the 2 seed.

Could be possible no Big Ten team gets in if Ohio State wins. Maybe Alabama gets in if TCU beats Oklahoma and Ohio State beats Wisconsin.

Its a mighty big IF (winning the Big Ten title). Has anyone seen a betting line yet? It will be interesting if JT Barrett is able to play (& at full capacity) or not. The selection committee could always hammer the Badgers (& Big Ten West) for lack of resume/ strength of schedule.

PS: in the final moments of the game at the Big House, the camera found JT on the sideline chatting it up with the QB that filled in for him (Dwayne Haskins, a red shirt freshman from Dearborn, MI) and old friend Cardale Jones..

One of the many flaws of this system is that a 1-loss team who did not win its division can sit out a conference championship, avoid a second loss, and still make the playoffs. Meanwhile, half of teams playing a 13th game will notch a loss against a quality opponent be penalized in the CFP standings.

Prediction:

1. Clemson

2. Oklahoma

3. Wisconsin

4. Auburn

The above 4 teams have an easy path--win and they're in. Georgia is in if they beat Auburn. Everyone else requires a win + help.

I would love to see a Oklahoma/Wisconsin matchup, top offense vs. top defense.

I think the committee could still slot Alabama in over Auburn if they win over Georgia kind of like what they did with Ohio State over Penn State last year. The big difference here is that Ohio State had a hugely more impressive resume compared to Alabama this year so maybe Alabama doesn't get in if Auburn beats Georgia.

I think Georgia beats Auburn this time and it is probably a relief for the committee as they won't have to make that decision of putting Alabama in the playoffs or not.

My final four are:

1.Clemson

2.Oklahoma

3.Georgia

4. Wisconsin

I think the Badgers can beat Ohio State this year as I don't believe Ohio State is as good as they were last year. If Barrett is starting against the Badgers I think they have a better chance than if Haskins is playing. I think the defense that the Badgers are running is better against Barrett than it is against Haskins. If the Badgers can force Barrett to throw the ball to beat them then I like the Badgers chances of beating Ohio State if Haskins is playing the defense is going to have to put some serious pressure on him and make him beat them with his legs instead of his arm.

Already there are stories circulating about how both Auburn AND Georgia are going to jump over WI this coming tuesday - that isn't too much an issue since they play each other in the SEC championship, so if WI beast OSU they'll jump back over the team that loses and get into the top 4.

The key is seeing where Alabama gets slotted next week - based on the conference title pairing this week, wherever Alabama is ranked this week should be the high water line for where they finish since they are done playing. No way should they move up due to teams losing in front of them, because teams ranked right behind them will have won their conference title games. As long as Bama is ranked below 4, the Badgers truly control their own destiny.

I think you'll see Clemson 1, OKLA 2, Aub 3, WI 4, Ala 5, Ga 6, Miami 7, OSU 8, Penn State 9, and TCU 10. IMO Alabama, Miami, and OSU should be ranked a bit lower than that, but this is what I think the committee will do.

I think the defense that the Badgers are running is better against Barrett than it is against Haskins.

I thought the same watching the game today. I honestly was starting to wonder if they would dare start Haskins just because he seems to match up better vs. Wisconsin. Though I don't think any team would dare start a freshman over a successful senior and remembered this isn't fantasy football.

I am extremely confident in the Badgers if they contain Barrett in the pocket and he doesn't start running wild on them. It likely comes down to the Badgers not gifting OSU on turnovers. Hornibrook needs to be smart for once and Taylor needs to hold onto the football.

WI should jump to #3 based on 1&2 losing. But Auburn will leap them and they'll be 4. The committee must be thrilled with what happened this weekend honestly. The 4 are simple. Winner of Auburn/Georgia. Clemson. Oklahoma. Wisconsin if beat OSU or it's Alabama.

I wouldn't be surprised if Georgia jumped ahead of WI because that's life for WI. Fact is 1 of those 2 will lose next week.

Wisconsin wins vs OSU they jump back in to top 4.

Committee will keep OSU out. TCU out if beats Oklahoma. The loser between Miami/Clemson.

ND's loss drops them out.

WI wins they are in. IF they lose, they won't be top 6 much less top 4. WI beats OSU that cancels out Oklahoma's best win over OSU. How can you quantify 1 loss Oklahoma over an unbeaten with the same high signature win. They lost to Iowa St. Would have beaten TCU twice who also lost to Iowa St. TCU becomes most likely over-rated who's best win is Oklahoma St.

So, I expect the best and in the Playoffs, there isn't a way to justify keeping an undefeated WI now that we face Ohio St.

If we lost, what bowl would we get relegated to? Vs. who? Ohio st and the Pac-10 won't have the Rose Bowl and you take those champions vs. eachother? We'd probably get Miami after losing to Clemson so then a game where winning would only drop us 1-2 spots in rankings, and losing drop us 3-4. So at this stage, WI will finish either ranked 9-12 or top 5.

If Barrett is still having issues with his knee I could see them starting Haskins or at least going to Haskins if they start to get behind and Barrett isn't all that successful running the ball. If the Badgers can contain the running game for Ohio State and Barrett is playing at QB I am fairly confident they win that game. I don't think Barrett can be that QB who can hit guys on the outside where the Badgers are weak. Over the middle I think the Badgers are able to cause a lot of problems and will win the turnover game because of that.

Hornibrook has been smart lately with the football it is just that he has been late and he has been staring down his targets. Taylor I agree needs to start protecting the football more the fumbles have become worrisome but I think that is something he has been working on and I am confident he will be able to perform come next week.

The defense kind of scares me especially if they are not able to generate a pass rush against Ohio State. The only positive it looks like is that Ohio State is looking a little banged up in the offensive line. The Badgers also need one of their WR to step up and make some plays otherwise Ohio State is just going to stack the line of scrimmage and that is going to be the end of the game unless Taylor is able to run against that. Hopefully we see some more play action though the offensive line hasn't looked all that good when they have gone to that as Hornibrook has had little to no time to throw the ball when the Badgers have ran play action.

If we look at blind resumes then Alabama should already be out of contention. They didn’t win their division and they’ll have all of one win against a top 25 team (LSU) now that Mississippi St lost. I’m just so sick of people acting like Alabama has this super tough schedule because they are in the SEC West. BUT they are Alabama so if either Oklahoma or Wisconsin loses they’ll be in.

Here's how I see it.

Clemson/Miami winner is in, loser out.

Georgia/Auburn winner is in, loser is out.

Wisconsin and Oklahoma both control their own destiny and are in with wins. Both will be out with losses.

Bama is the first team in if either Wisconsin or Oklahoma fall. If neither do, they're out. If both do, door opens for one of Ohio State or TCU.
