If a number isn't retired and Walker wore 15 in NY I don't know what the issue here is.

It's not an issue that Walker wears 15, it's an issue that the Brewers won't issue 17.

I get it. Gantner's from Wisconsin. Still, on those Brewers teams? He's probably the sixth or seventh-best starting player depending on the season. (And was a reserve in the late 70s when the Brewers emerged.)

And you know the Brewers have refused to issue #17 to whom?

I just saw a tweet that Walker was issued jersey #15. I just chuckle a little bit knowing we'll hand out Cecil Cooper's old number like candy, but you want Gantner's #17? No way pal!

It's silly and historically stupid.

Cecil Cooper was, by several factors, a better player than Jim Gantner was. I mean, I love 'em both, grew up in the late 70s/80s, etc., but if the Brewers issue 15 they ought to issue 17.

Has any media outlet every written about why this is?

Because Jim Gantner still throws batting practice and serves as a part time coach with the team and Cecil Cooper does not.

So they're holding up a number for a part-time coach?

I mean, whatever, it isn't the end of the world, but it just seems silly.

I am glad that No. 16 (Sixto Lezcano's old number) just hit a three-run home run though!

We all have our players we like and dislike. I just don't like Garza.

Dont dislike him but he fades real fast and its usually quite obvious... yet here he is being allowed to plate 2 more...

Would help if our pen wasn't a hot mess. Forces us to try and squeeze everything out of our starters.
