Paula and Pelicans too much for Mudcats in 8-3 loss at Myrtle Beach

Trey Supak (5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 2 K) largely struggled through this one. Conor Harber (3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) was even worse when he took over. There was one play when the Pelicans stole second and nobody covered 2nd base for the Mudcats.

Weston Wilson and Wendell Rijo were both 2-4. Monte Harrison was 1-3 and his triple was the only extra base hit for the Mudcats.

Final: Grand Junction 4, Helena 1

After starting the second half 2-0, the H-Crew has lost seven in a row (17-30 overall). In five of the seven games, they have combined to score only seven runs. This is the Pioneer League, men! They only trail second-half leader Great Falls (5-5) by 2.5 games, though.

Final: Kane County 8, Wisconsin 5, ten innings

Really tough loss, the type of game Chris Mehring and Kyle Lobner would dissect thoroughly in their podcast if at home. On the road, though, so we rely on Chris's detailed (as always) game summary --

Wisconsin Box Score

Three of four on the basepaths for Demi Orimoloye, now with a whopping 30 steals in 40 attempts. Imagine how many he'd have if the OBP wasn't only .276.

This roster isn't exactly swimming in candidates to jump to quick success to begin 2018 in Carolina, particularly on the position player side. Related to that, when are we going to hear more about the Attanasio / Mudcats purchase? Sarcasm, but not really (tweet).

Wisconsin Game Log

Sigh...

Kane County Bottom of the 10th

Pitching Change: Miguel Sanchez replaces Daniel Brown.

Anfernee Grier walks.

Marcus Wilson singles on a ground ball to left fielder Ryan Aguilar. Anfernee Grier to 2nd.

Ramon Hernandez homers (9) on a fly ball to left center field. Anfernee Grier scores. Marcus Wilson scores.

In the 13 games since he was sent down from Milwaukee, Brett Phillips is 23-for-49 (.469), nine extra base hits, eight walks, 13 K's. There will always be a bias regarding PCL stat lines, but goodness, he's been so solid all season, really.

46% of Brett Phillips' hits this year have been for extra bases.

Just letting you know here I'm going to steal that line from you for Twitter-purposes. And I'm rounding up to 47%! Thanks!

The Sky Sox overnight game summaries serve their purpose, but the real gem is the follow-up next day recap that Dan Acheson puts together as part of the Sky Sox pre-game paperwork release that we link to every day, as indicated just above.

Be sure to check that out Sunday afternoon. Dan will do more justice to a 12-11 game, even a loss, than I could ever attempt to here. Dan's work has been pretty awesome all season long, and I really should have highlighted it even more than we do.

Simply put, the kid is not a 4th OF in the majors. Not when combining that glove with that kind of ability to square up the bat with the ball. He was man among boys when I saw him here in Vegas. The level of play just seemed beneath him, yet not one sign that he felt wronged being there. The jumps he gets on balls hit to center and the gaps is what really stands out when watching him. I've seen it in person and watching him play CF with the big club.

Just needs time in the majors to adjust and put up average to above average numbers on offense. And the glove will make him a plus player

Final: Biloxi 5, Tennessee 0

If Taylor Jungmann can make a conquering (and dominating) return to the Pacific Coast League (and in particular, Colorado Springs), then 28-year-old Aaron Wilkerson deserves that same opportunity. There is the whole Biloxi playoff push factor, granted, and the Brewers would surely like to see both their AAA and AA teams in the postseason (wow, could that wreak havoc with rosters -- did you listen to the Rick Sweet interview above I suggested?). But talk about having nothing left to prove at AA.

Not sure if it's been Chris or Erik from the broadcast duo posting game summaries all season (maybe a combined home/road effort), but regardless, excellent work all season long, thanks.

Going to be fun on September 1st when the Brewers find a 40-man roster spot for uber-speedster Johnny Davis as a pinchrunner extraordinaire -- you might say no other player is rooting harder for the Brewers to be in the hunt as of that date. Stolen base #38 in 46 attempts Saturday night.

Did you at least give me credit? :)

In the minors it rounded up to 47%, but when including the majors it was 46% pretty much right on the dot.
