Hiura & Lutz, those are two special bats to follow! Mix in Harrison who probably should be in Wisconsin as well. Ward has been solid, Carroll is older advanced college bat but has been really good... hard to complain about early offensive returns from draft class...strong like last years pitching group. Pitching.... could be better. Is Lemons hurt or pitched too much already? Been really disappointed with the pitching, even Rose has only been okay.

Medeiros has to be one of the most frustrating prospects in the system. He was absolutely cruising through 3 innings today, no hits, 1 walk and 6 Ks. Looked like it waa going to be another impressive outing.

So of course he gets lit up in the 4th and doesn't even make it out of the inning.

On the bright side only one walk...so there is that.

Rally falls short as Mudcats lose 7-5 to visiting Astros

The Mudcats nearly overcame a 7-0 deficit in Saturday's loss to Buies Creek

By Carolina Mudcats | August 5, 2017 9:51 PM ET

(NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Kodi Medeiros (3 2/3 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 6 K) started and took the loss. This game ends his streak of consecutive starts with 6 or more innings. The Astros seemed to switch strategies against him the second time through the lineup to swing at any fastball early in the count. Parker Berberet (4 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) pitched well in relief but did allow two inherited runs to score in the 4th which proved to be the difference in the game. Wuilder Rodriguez worked a scoreless 9th.

Trent Clark went 2-5 and Jake Gatewood 2-4 at the plate. Weston Wilson knocked in two runs with a double while going 1-4.

Demi Orimoloye, listed at 6'4", 225, now 26-of-34 in SB attempts. The slash line is still not pretty to the eye, but he's been doing what he can as of late to finish with respectability in that regard.

Final: Colorado Springs 8, Salt Lake 1

AUDIO via Friday's Sky Sox Pre-Game: First baseman Chris Colabello (Part One)

High words for the organization...

***

No formal summary from the Sky Sox as of yet, here's some text out of Salt Lake newspapers:

Following a script eerily similar to Friday’s contest, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox roughed up Bees starting pitcher Luis Diaz early, scoring three runs on four hits during the first two innings Saturday night. The onslaught continued in the sixth and eighth as Ivan De Jesus and Chris Colabello launched a pair of home runs.

The Bees’ bats, on the other hand, were silenced by Colorado Springs starting pitcher Angel Ventura, who pitched a stellar six innings of shutout ball. A single run was all the Bees could muster as the visitors dominated their hosts for the third straight evening, 8-1.

Salt Lake committed three errors on the night and couldn’t get a lot going offensively, going 2 for 8 with runners in scoring position and leaving seven on base. The Bees only had two extra-base hits. On the defensive side, starting pitcher Luis Diaz was handed his 10th loss of the season, dropping his record to 4-10 on the year. Diaz gave up seven hits, five runs (all earned), walked two and struck out six in five innings pitched.

Colorado Springs Box Score

LF Kyle Wren a home run shy of a cycle; every spot in the lineup contributed a hit, run, RBI, or walk, as this team just kicks butt in a fun way over and over again, home or road, regardless of specific roster makeup.

We've discussed several times that RHP Angel Ventura is scheduled for minor league free agency at age 24. While not necessarily a candidate for 40-man roster placement under normal circumstances, the Brewers need to sweeten a 2018 minor league offer and entice with a big league camp invite in order to retain Ventura. That type of extension is never announced until after the regular season.

Colorado Springs Game Log

Ejections: Colorado Springs Sky Sox third baseman Ivan De Jesus ejected by HP umpire Nestor Ceja (7th)

It was after a called 3rd strike.

Man, are we going to hype this young man over the next few years -- fun for us! HR, double, two walks in this game, by the way...

Helena Game Log

RHP Braulio Ortiz made his first appearance since July 22nd, and was one of four H-Crew pitchers in this game, each victimized in some way. Not sure if we'll ever learn what the plan was behind signing the 25-year-old 7th-year pro and placing him in Helena.

AZL Brewers 12, AZL Reds 3

AZL Brewers Boxscore

On the third try over the course of two days, the Brewers finally beat the Reds. Jesus Lujano hit 3 singles and scored 3 runs from the leadoff spot to pace the offense in its big day. Julian Jarrard hit yet another double, his 14th in 19 games played. Brent Diaz and Robie Rojas also each had a two-bagger. Pat McInerney walked 3 times, half the Brewers' total for the day.

Chase Williams made his 4th rehab appearance, and made it another successful one. Branden Nunn relieved Williams and made easily his best appearance as a pro, with 4 scoreless innings and 4 strikeouts. Austin Rubick finished things up and allowed 2 runs over 3 innings. He did notch his first professional save, and only walked one.
