Jordan Yamamoto (5 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR) had a rare off day but he did manage to make it through 5 innings and thus save the bullpen a little bit and get a win. Luke Barker (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) with a 3 inning hold and Nate Griep gets his 21st save of the year.

Per the game story, Cooper Hummel (1-1, HR, Sacrifice Fly, BB, HBP, 3 Runs) also had a nice game. Weston Wilson had a triple in 4 at bats and Jake Gatewood a double in 4 at bats.

Clinton Clips Rattlers in Eleven Innings

LumberKings beat Wisconsin

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss Friday's eleven-inning, 8-7 loss to the Clinton LumberKings. Thank you to Ryan Aguilar, Jordan Desguin, Alec Kenilvort, and Matt Erickson for their time from the clubhouse."

We're also going to post this in our season-long Timber Rattlers feature story archive thread, here's a nice hometown Q&A with Wisconsin RHP Zack Brown, having a fine summer --

Seymour native heating up in minor leagues

by Jordan Morey, Seymour (IN) Tribune

Wisconsin Box Score

In his 6th pro season (turns 24 in October), RHP Victor Diaz has struggled with injury and some ineffectiveness despite skills that bear evidence of more, as touched on in the podcast.

Keston Hiura drew three walks after only drawing one since turning pro, hardly a negative in Kiura's case. Why walk when you can pretty much rake at will, or at minimum, barrel up line drives at will.

Wisconsin Game Log

If you've taken in all the info above, you know RHP Jordan Desguin fanned seven in four one-run innings.

Game One: AZL Reds 11, AZL Brewers 7

Game Two: AZL Reds 4, AZL Brewers 1

Game One AZL Brewers Boxscore

Game Two AZL Brewers Boxscore

I was pretty jacked up for the rarely-seen AZL doubleheader, but it turned out to be a dud for the good guys as they dropped both games. The lineup is just not the same as it was early in the season when Keston Hiura, Tristen Lutz, and Kenny Corey were in the middle of it. New guys will have to step up to give the team a shot at a championship in the playoffs, and I have no doubt some will. The pitching staff will have to pick up some slack, too, and they have the talent to do it.

Coming off his 5 walk day, Rob Henry was the biggest offensive contributor across the two games, with 3 hits including a triple. And because of course, he drew no walks in either game. Henry, who was a draftable prospect in the 2016 class, was not drafted due to his Ivy League status - those guys rarely sign junior year. He has solid tools across the board, and although he hasn't yet, can play center field.

The only other player with hits in both games was Julian Jarrard, with a double in game one and a single in game two. Jarrard is putting up some pretty silly power numbers for the AZL. As of the end of July, he had a 235 PX score, which is linear-weighted power normalized for the league environment. That's the same PX score Keston Hiura posted in the AZL.

Brent Diaz and Robie Rojas both had two hits in game one. Both of Diaz' base knocks were doubles, as was one of Rojas'. Pat McInerney had a double in game one as well.

As for the pitching, Adrian Houser threw a scoreless inning in game one as he continues on the comeback trail. It's not impossible that he could get a few appearances in full season ball before season's end. And in game two, 25th round lefty Karlos Morales made his pro debut with two perfect innings, about a week shy of his 18th birthday.

Caden Lemons is the lone remaining member of the 2017 draft class to make his pro debut.

Brendan Murphy's struggles continued, though 3 of the 5 runs he surrendered were unearned, and two of them scored after he left the game. Jake Smith pitched 2 scoreless innings, though his peripherals still leave something to be desired - still a project. Canadian NDFA Kody Rock had been really good up to last night's game one, but the wheels came off a bit. 37th rounder (and Brown teammate of Rob Henry) Christian Taugner soaked up the final 4 innings of game two and took the loss, though he didn't pitch terribly. He now has 3 walks and 25 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings.
