Kodi with 5 straight outings of 6+ IP

Totals:

31 IP 19H 13 ER 7BB 28K 3.77 ERA

Today had to be his best outing as a pro, hands down. 7IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K. All 3 hits in the same inning, the first of which was a ground ball infield single.

I'm guessing he's still learning to find his arm-slot with consistency. But we're seeing a much better pitcher as the year has gone on and pitch counts have been eased. Don't be surprised if he returns as a top prospect next year. As a Hawaiian prep pitcher, he didn't face the best competition, and is likely just scratching the surface.

The control & reduced walks makes this the most impressive! He has always had outstanding stuff but has never learned to harness his command. Sky is limit if he ever puts it all together & exciting to see him flashy right now.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

Medeiros fans career high nine in 3-2 victory

The Mudcats clinched a three games to one series victory with Sunday's home win

By Carolina Mudcats | July 30, 2017 6:42 PM ET

Kodi Medeiros pitching for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Just to piggyback on what DHonks said earlier in case people don't read the whole thread, Kodi Medeiros (7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 9 K) has now gone 6 innings or better in 5 straight starts. Jordan Yamamoto's family was in town and distributing pineapples to the Mudcats' staff like Jordan was distributing zeros to the Blue Rocks yesterday. It was quite the weekend for Hawaii-KO. After Yamamoto's game score of 75 yesterday, Medeiros followed that with a score of 77 today which was the 4th highest by a Mudcat this year. Medeiros threw 96 pitches today, 71! for strikes. He hit 102 on the stadium gun in the 7th inning after around 90 pitches. The Blue Rocks were trotting out their half swings and still not getting around on it. That 102 is probably somewhere in the high 90's in the real world. Wuilder Rodriguez and Nate Griep worked the 8th and 9th, Griep picking up his 20th save.

The Blue Rocks hit the skids early when D. J. Burt hit a disputed ball down the first base line which was called foul to lead off the game. He struck out on a disputed third strike on the next pitch and was then tossed out of the game. Jake Gatewood (1-3, 2B, BB) led the Mudcats' attack today with the wind blowing in. Trent Clark was 1-3 with a sacrifice fly. Jose Cuas (1-4) knocked in the other two runs on a cue shot off the end of his bat which eluded the first baseman.

So much positive to be said for the MiLB.TV package (free audio, too, but particularly the package).

Difficult, granted, to commit to full games, but not so much to check in on the conveniently-linked box scores, see who is late and close, and quickly enjoy late-inning action as I just did with Biloxi. (Wins help.)

Or, find your favorite starters, watch their early work, even if real life forces you to bail out after an inning or two.

Wisconsin Box Score

No video feed for this one was a bummer, but luckily Chris' game stories always include an excellent description of the key moments. Chris also included a neat stat about just how dominant the Timber Rattlers starters have been over their last 25 innings pitched.

So Keston Hiura went 2-for-4 to raise his Midwest League batting average back to .400. At this point is this even Link Report notable, or should we just all assume he probably got a hit or two every night until otherwise noted?

Wisconsin Game Log

The Timber Rattlers pitchers recorded 11 strikeouts. That included 5 K's for RHP Jordan Desguin over 2.0 innings pitched. Something tells me his last strikeout was the most satisfying.

Peoria Bottom of the 6th

Pitching Change: Jordan Desguin replaces Victor Diaz.

Danny Hudzina strikes out swinging.

Ryan McCarvel singles on a ground ball to left fielder Joantgel Segovia.

Juan Yepez strikes out swinging and Ryan McCarvel caught stealing 2nd, catcher Mario Feliciano to shortstop Devin Hairston.

Peoria Bottom of the 7th

Dylan Carlson singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Jordan Desguin.

Matt Fiedler hit by pitch. Dylan Carlson to 2nd.

J. R. Davis strikes out swinging.

Kramer Robertson called out on strikes.

Nick Plummer singles on a line drive to right fielder Demi Orimoloye. Dylan Carlson scores. Matt Fiedler to 3rd.

Stephen Piscotty strikes out swinging.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

RHP Angel Ventura knocked around some, and LHP Tyler Webb sure has been underwhelming since his trade acquisition.

Donovan Hand is collecting a AAA paycheck and his team is based in Vegas, for a guy who was out of the affiliated ball scene for a bit, there are worse ways to spend a summer.

AZL Diamondbacks 6, AZL Brewers 2

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Could it be a championship hangover (not that most of these guys are old enough to drink)? The Baby Brewers' offense managed only 4 hits and a walk and lost their first game of the second half. Three of the four hits were for extra bases: 24 year old Julian Jarrard got two doubles and Tristen Lutz had one. LG Castillo had a single and the walk.

37th round pick Christian Taugner got the start and went a career-high 4 innings, though he allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits. In 20 1/3 career innings now, he's allowed 28 hits but also only walked 2, and struck out 21. NDFAs Kadon Simmons and Branden Nunn both pitched two innings to finish out the game - Simmons allowed a run, Nunn did not.

Stokes, Shuckers open homestand with 4-3 win over Jacksonville

Troy Stokes Jr. hit his first Double-A homer and went 2-for-3 in the win on Sunday

By Biloxi Shuckers

Stokes_thumb_2_5ogi6l6y_ozptny8s.jpg

Troy Stokes Jr. blasted a go-ahead solo home run in the fifth inning on Sunday (Hunter Reed)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

Sunday was largely a relief pitcher day on the mound. Travis Hissong got the start throw a solid 4.1 innings while only giving up a run. Jorge Lopez got the save in the 5-4 win despite giving up two hits in the ninth. The big story of the day was Troy Stokes Jr. hitting his first homerun in AA. Coming into the year Stokes Jr. was mostly regarded as a tweener not having the power to play up at the MLB level. He has done a lot this year to erase that label hitting his 15th homerun on the year. Whether it continues is still up for debate, but Stokes Jr. is making himself into a legit prospect to reckon with.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Travis Hissong (4.1 IP, 5 H, ER, 4 K) started the game while Quintin Torres-Costa (1.2 IP, 4 BB, 2 ER, 3 BB, K) Tayler Scott (2 IP, K), and Jorge Lopez (1.0 IP, 2 H) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Jacob Nottingham (1-4, RBI)

Troy Stokes Jr. (2-3, R, 2B, HR, RBI, BB)

Angel Ortega (2-4, R, 2B, RBI)

Biloxi Shuckers Game Log

Clint Coulter doubles in a run.

Biloxi Bottom of the 5th
