League average defense at first and Harper never gets up to bat. Hard to blame that one on Barnes.

Agree, Thames has no range at all, or leaping ability. Like the guy, but he's a DH

Was there a switch that put Thames in?

Tried to get another inning out of Nelson; ended up a bad choice. Lead off walk was a bad omen. Then the relievers perform self-immolation, other than the one guy who got a critical strikeout, who was then promptly lifted. If any possible aspect of bullpen management could go wrong in the 8th, it just about did tonight.

Don't worry Swarzak will solve everything. Stearns is a putz when it comes to bullpens. This may be his downfall as a GM.

Pretty sure it was Aguilar tonight. I turned the game off.

We don't know what he is when it comes to bullpens because he's never tried to build a quality one.

Thames and Aguilar are below average defenders. If you're going to go for a ball then go for it and lay out to knock it down.

Worth pointing out the defenses role in this as well. The guy scoring from first even after falling down between 3rd and home should have been out against most RFs. That flyball out to Braun should probably be caught as well. Didn't see a replay of the plays at first so can't say for sure, but looked like more could've been done there too.

We have traded Smith, Thornburg, and Jeffress. Relievers don't just grow on trees.

None of those guys are his. The guys we are pitching tonight are. His job is to find them. He's whiffing badly.

Exactly. Stearns had a great pen last year. Traded all of them, which 90% of you agreed with. This year was rebuilding, not forming a pen to compete for WS. Again, something most agreed with. Now they stumbled into a possible pennant race and it's "Stearns doesn't know how to build a pen??!?" Ridiculous.

Absolutely horrible. Why does every 8th and 9th have to be such a nightmare?

Because the bullpen was an afterthought going into this season - it's still largely a collection of random arms thrown together to field some form of a pitching staff at a bargain basement price. The rest of the team has far exceeded expectations, but the bullpen is still that of a team that won't hold up in contention down the stretch.

Sometimes you truly do get what you pay for, which unfortunately in this case is nothing...

Yup. You're right. This really wasn't a bullpen anyone that was serious about winning would ever put together.

To be fair...im sure he wasn't putting a lot of resources in bullpen arms this year.

Is there rain coming? Why is the game ending?

Because we never ever score in the 9th? Let alone 3 runs.

Quick say the brewers never score 7 in the 9th!

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."
