Brinson recalled, Garza to DL (leg strain)

lol...Garza to the 10 day DL retroactive to 7/23, day after his last start. With an off day this past monday and an off day on the 31st, this reeks of gaming the 10-day DL through the trade deadline because the rotation could keep starting on regular rest.

Maybe I missed something but I heard nothing about Garza being injured on Sunday.

The Brewers have always been very good at keeping stuff like this under wraps, I'm not surprised we didn't hear about it until the move was announced. He could have strained it towards the end of his last outing, in a bullpen session, any numbers of things. Will be interesting to see what we do about a starting pitcher on Saturday...Suter and Guerra could go Tomorrow and Friday on regular rest due to the off day.

I'm sorry but all this has just been too funny.

Ageed. So did Garza slip in the shower and strain a leg muscle forcing Brinson to leave after the top of the 1st. Just a weird 24 hours with little information.

Yes, he slipped in the shower, landed on some salad tongs, then a suit case landed on him before Braun hit him with his bat.

There's been lots of speculation, so I'm sure this did get funny at times. But I don't think it has been over the top. Nobody (I don't think) has guaranteed X is going to happen, or Brinson is being traded, etc. Just people throwing out ideas of what all this could mean.

Brinson gets removed in the 1st inning, Brewers are talking to various teams about a trade, and they wait for 3 hours before game time to announce Garza to DL. All those things are true, so it's fair for all of us to speculate what it could mean.

In fact, I still don't believe it's as simple as Brinson up, Garza to DL. They could have announced that long ago. I would bet $5 (I'm cheap) that a trade was or still is in the works, or even fell through. If it got done, they were set with a plan. Since it didn't (at least not yet) plan B was Garza to DL.

I agree with you on the last part. Phillips and Villar are on hug watch tonight.

I agree with you. Something had to have been (or maybe still is) in the works last night. Why else do you send Brinson out there for one half inning (after a rain delay) only to pull him before the bottom of the 1st. If they were simply bringing him up for another right handed bat, they would have already known they were going to do that and wouldn't have done all of that. Likewise, wouldn't they have known about a pending DL stint for Garza (if this is truly a legit injury)? Unless if he literally slipped on a banana peel in the clubhouse after the game last night, it again wouldn't explain why they sent Brinson out there for 1/2 inning.

Something is still a little fishy with all of this.

That absolutely could be true. If no move is made though, I'm curious what makes the start tomorrow. I doubt a new acquisition would be able to make it to DC to make the start so quickly if a trade happened tonight. Minor league options that line up best are Espino and Burnes. It's almost certainly Espino, but a guy can dream right?

Maybe, just maybe they didn't decide to do it until he'd already gone out? That is the most likely scenario, way too much read into him playing one inning. Relax.

Guess the other fragile fellow should have been speculated in addition to Braun.

If they move up the rotation, a starter is needed Saturday. If they would hold, Garza was supposed to go tomorrow.

"My God! That's Brandon Woodruff's music!!!!"

I know it is just a Jim Ross reference but Woodruff hasn't been down 10 days so couldn't start unless somebody else goes on the DL. It will be now fun to speculate who will take Garza's spot in the rotation though, could be anywhere from a trade acquisition to Wilkerson to giving Hader a start.

Relax with telling people to relax. We're fine. It is the trade deadline, and roster moves have been made in ways that are not typical. How many roster moves have they had this year? 6,782? Have they ever pulled a player out of a game to make a move? I don't think so. Garza didn't pitch last night. He realized in the locker room after the game he was injured? And don't announce it until now? Nothing unusual about any of this. Either way, we are perfectly relaxed.

retroactive to 23 july. with the new 10-day disabled list, can only backdate three days.

Yea feel free to wildy speculate based on a guy playing one inning. Starting pitchers do physical things on their off days and someone can get hurt doing anything. What big thing that we know changed is that our starter went really deep in the game for once so can be confident the next few days of having a short BP once the new guy is added tomorrow (I'd guess a reliver goes out, not Brinson, but we'll see then and on Saturday for the replacement starter). They could have simply been kicking around options and didn't make a decision until after the game. Of course there's talks in the works and something could happen anytime from here out but him playing an inning is not a clear sign of a conspiracy of some kind. Often times the simplest thing is the answer and so far it looks like just that, some roster juggling just in time to start Brinson vs a lefty while having Brinson physically with the team in case something happens between now and the deadline.

ETA: I will grant some frustration if we roll a bullpen day out on Saturday in a big game. Hope there's a clear plan that shows itself soon and I'll generally welcome a trade.
