Is it too early for us to get excited about what Zack Brown has been doing recently for the T Rats? Another really solid outing for him today (still needs to cut down on the walks though), and that has been a trend for him over the past couple of months. Does he profile more to a late inning reliever, or is he a guy that has enough in his arsenal to potentially stay as a starter as he continues to move up the system?

And, oh by the way - Hiura with 2 more hits today.

A bit disjointed in our Link Report set-up for Monday :embarrassed.

Please see the rest of today's schedule here:

MiLB.com feature -- organizational scoreboard, Brewers

And here's the pesky DSL Co-Op box score that we asked always be included at the above link, but MiLB couldn't accommodate us.

I trust that by now everyone knows where to click for audio and MiLB.TV info, maybe especially important this evening with the big leaguers idle.

But to be safe, you can refer to that portion of Sunday's Daily Menu, which includes all that goodness, right here.

Have a pleasant night, everyone, I'll be posting on the nice Wisconsin matinee win here in a couple of hours, by mid-evening.

I think Zack Brown eventually turns into a strict reliever profile. Smaller frame, struggles with command and control, effort to his delivery... But he throws pretty hard and has decent secondary stuff.

In college they didn't want him throwing his changeup for some reason, so I'm sure he's working on it. The results say that the stuff is there... he just needs to find the strike zone more.

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast Sun. 7/23: "As the Brewers have slumped since the All-Star break, one question looms large: Is this just a bump in the road or is the club starting to fall back to what people expected from them before the season? Matt addresses that question and is joined by Gabe Stoltz from Disciples of Uecker. Matt also gets an update on the Brewers' top minor league affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, from their broadcaster Dan Karcher."

As always, take in the full podcast, but for the focus of this Minor League Forum, the Dan Karcher interview begins at the 32:00 minute mark.

Locust Grove's Adrian Houser returns to Brewers organization after year away

By Dekota Gregory, Tulsa World

Adrian Houser did not leave the doctor’s office before he called his dad, Mike.

The last time Houser called his father with big news was to tell him he would be making his Major League debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2015. The time before that was to inform his family he had been traded to the Brewers’ organization from the Houston Astros, which drafted him in the second round in 2011 as a right-handed pitcher after he guided Locust Grove High School to its first state title.

After a year that included both of those calls, Houser’s next year would not include baseball after partially tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, which required Tommy John Surgery on July 21, 2016.

“As soon as I heard that, that I needed surgery, I practically stopped thinking about everything else,” Houser said. “My heart dropped and immediately I’m missing baseball for the next year or more. It’s something that’s been with me since I was 5 years old.”

A year after gaining the scar on his right elbow, Houser reflected on the journey to getting back on the mound Tuesday for the AZL Brewers in the Arizona Rookie League, where he will pitch one inning and throw in a game for the first time since surgery. He will most likely finish the season there on rehab assignment.

“It’s gonna be a lot of emotion, a lot of adrenaline and stuff that I haven’t felt in a long time,” Houser said.

June 23 of last year was Houser’s last outing with the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers. He had believed he had things figured out as a member of the 40-team roster and listed as a top-30 prospect in the Brewers organization. He posted a 2.35 ERA in four starts in June, which included a seven-inning shutout.

“That was one of the first things I said to my pitching coach in Double-A when I found out,” Houser said. “I just told him, ‘This would happen right when we figure something out and things start going good for me.’ Then the whole thought of getting called up the year before, it kind of sucked really bad knowing that I was that close then this happened. I think that part of me has really helped me stay focus on my goals so I can get back there.”

Houser’s goals are written in a notebook he keeps with him. He has a habit of writing objectives down. He did the same thing when the Astros drafted him, and he accomplished the task of making his MLB debut before the date he set. His new goals are not crossed off yet.

“I feel like I’ve attacked (the rehab process) pretty well with the goals that I’ve set,” Houser said. “I think I’ll be back in better shape and stronger than what I was before the surgery. But only time can tell when I’m back in the game.”

Mudcats end skid with 12-3 rain shortened victory

Lucas Erceg, Troy Stokes Jr. and Corey Ray each had RBI triples in the game

By Carolina Mudcats | July 24, 2017 11:31 PM ET

Troy Stokes Jr. tripled and scored a run for the Carolina Mudcats on April 14, 2017 at Five County Stadium. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

The Mudcats end a 5 game losing streak by beating a depleted (after the Quintana deal) Pelicans' lineup. Pelicans lost 3 players off this team in that deal including Eloy Jimenez, the Cubs' top prospect at the time. The Cubs' 3rd round pick from last years draft, Thomas Hatch, took the loss. Jordan Yamamoto went the distance (5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 3 K) to pick up the win.

The Mudcats struck for 11 hits in the game including 3 triples and 4 doubles. Jake Gatewood (0-4) was the only player who failed to reach base on a hit. He is looking frustrated as he slammed his bat and helmet after his second at bat. Troy Stokes Jr (2-4, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI) and Lucas Erceg (2-2, 2B, 3B, BB, 3 R) led the way. Max McDowell (2-2, 2B) also had a multi-hit game.

Carolina Box Score

Carolina Game Log

This inning put the game away and the Pelicans never got to bat in the bottom half of the inning when the rain came:

Naturally Broxton reaches base 5 times in his first game down.

Kind of frustrating. He did this last year, got called back up, and went on a tear. Now there are cf's lined up to play in the bigs. If he tears up AAA, I'd imagine he'll play to increase his trade value for the offseason.
