Is that Tyler Badamo of Brewerfan.net fame pitching for the Triple-A Reno Aces against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox tonight? I had to do a double take when I checked out the box score, good for Tyler! A successful outing through 3 innings so far, I'll root for the Sky Sox to get the bats going immediately after Tyler exits the game.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yes, Badamo, just recently signed out of indy ball, was bumped up from High-A, apparently just for one spot start (we'll see).

Ironically, Badamo is up because Reno's originally scheduled starter, former Brewers farmhand and Arizona's #1 prospect coming into the season, LHP Anthony Banda, is debuting vs. the Nationals tonight, and as I type is through 4 IP giving up only one run.

No shame in giving up a Bryce Harper HR on a 3-2 pitch, either.

Final: DSL Brewers 8, DSL Tigers 1

The Brewers co-op team had their game rained out on Saturday, but their full squad was able to get their game in and they rolled over the Tigers 8-1.

DSL Brewers Box Score

16-year-old Michele Vassalotti made the start for the Brewers and tossed four more scoreless innings. He has yet to allow an earned run in any of his first four outings and has steadily seen his workload increase, an inning at a time. Today he did surrender an unearned run on two hits, but struck out four and did not walk a batter. Maiker Pinto followed with five scoreless frames to earn the win, scattering four hits and striking out three. Aaron Familia paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with his fourth home run and drove in three. Anderson Melendez went 3-for-5 and has now hit safely in five straight games, including four multi-hit games, bumping his average by 52 points in that span. Bryan Connell contributed two singles and a walk while Pablo Abreu added two hits and stole a base. Jean Carmona returned to the lineup for the Brewers and though he went hitless, he did walk and hit a sac fly.

Gohara, M-Braves deal shutout loss to Shuckers on Saturday

Freddy Peralta struck out six over five innings for Biloxi in the loss

By Biloxi Shuckers

Freddy Peralta has 44 strikeouts over his first six games and 29.1 innings as a Shucker. (Mark P Driscoll)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

Like a typical Freddy Peralta start strikeouts were aplenty as Peralta mowed down six Mississippi batters. Unfortunately Luis Gohara on the opposing side demolished the Shuckers through six innings picking up eleven strikeouts of his own. The Shuckers offense was flat all day collecting seven hits all together and none of which went for extra bases. Rene Garcia went 2-3 on the day and was the only Shucker to have multiple hits. While Freddy Peralta had a solid day going five innings while giving up two runs the bullpen gave up six leading to a 0-8 loss.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Freddy Peralta (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) started the game while Travis Hissong (0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, BB, K) and Quintin Torres-Costa (2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Rene Garcia (2-3)

Brewers Drop Second Game To Chukars

Helena strands 13 men on base for the second straight night in 11-4 loss

By Garrett Greene / Helena Brewers

Garrett has the recap thing down to a science, be sure to give a read even though the final results were ugly.

Helena Box Score

FIELDING

E: Franly Mallen 2 (12, fielding, fielding); Brent Diaz 2 (2, throw, throw).

Two of the 11 runs were unearned, but that's little solace.

In nearly every way, this was a classic Pioneer League box.

Helena Game Log

As you read in the summary --

"Nicolas Pierre went 2-for-4 with an RBI, his ninth consecutive two-hit game."

Offensive environment or not, that's impressive. No stolen base attempts despite 19 of his 23 season hits being singles.

Sky Sox Fall Late

Colorado Springs scores six runs after sixth inning in a combined 20-run, 31-hit game

Andrew Susac led the Sox offense with two runs batted in Saturday night against Reno. (Paat Kelly photo)

You'll learn a lot in the write-up, but Robby politely doesn't include RHP Matt Ramsey's name, the former Biloxi closer has had a fine season, but gave up six runs in the 9th. Sour final inning, but the fans were certainly entertained, as is often the case in the Springs, win or lose.

If the Brewers don't plan on adding utility man Ivan De Jesus, Jr. on September 1st, maybe they can do a veteran favor like when they dealt Eric Young, Jr. to the big league Yankees last August 31st. We only mention De Jesus, Jr. so often because he contributes every single night, often in a crooked-number kind of way, such as here.

Guessing this Whitecaps' roster means that the long-dormant Tigers' system is finally making inroads towards success.

Talk about development during the course of a season. Check out the "Last 10" on LHP Cameron Roegner's MiLB.com player page, and watch how his ERA has dropped. That is discussed in some detail on the podcast.

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Baby Brewers win again, magic number decreases to 5.

4th rounder Brendan Murphy got the start and struggled once again. The Brewers might be having him work on something so it's impossible to read too much into it. Joaquin De La Cruz pitched 4 innings and allowed only a run on 2 hits, while striking out 5. He also walked 5, but shh.
