Tucker Neuhaus sustained what appeared to be a significant knee injury while being caught in a run down play after overrunning first base on a base hit. Looked pretty bad unfortunately, he didn't put any weight on his leg as he was helped off the field.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Mudcats allow two homers in 5-3 loss

Lucas Erceg was 1-for-3 with a two-run double for Carolina

By Carolina Mudcats | July 21, 2017 11:24 PM ET

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/1/4/224474714/cuts/414_Lucas_Erceg_RBI_Single_wsnqhxer_bzjxizxv.jpg

The Mudcats managed only 3 hits off 3 Astros pitchers. Trey Supak (4 1/3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K) started and got a no decision when the Mudcats rallied to tie the game. He gave up another gopher ball today. He has had only one appearance with Carolina in which he has not given one up. Conor Harber (3 2/3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K) followed and took the loss surrendering a two run home run that put the Mudcats behind for good. Eric Hanhold worked the final inning.

Lucas Erceg had a two run double in 3 official at bats. Cooper Hummel drew two walks. Isan Diaz committed his 18th error of the year. Monte Harrison was 0-4 but had only one of the Mudcats' 15 strike outs. Harrison is one of only 6 players in all of the minors to have both 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases at this point of the season. No hits or walks for Trent Clark tonight but his stat line in the second half is pretty good: .313 BA, .455 OBP, .604 SLG, 1.049 OPS.

Doesn't look like Carolina's making the postseason - yes, it may have been the youngest Carolina team in the league to start 2017, but it just shows the collection of individual talent doesn't always equate to team success. Also, the analysis here of whether many of the individual Mudcats have had successful seasons thus far will continue. It's certainly a healthy debate.

Final: Idaho Falls 13, Helena 1

Chukars Top Brewers

Helena leaves 13 men on base

By Garrett Greene / Helena Brewers

Do follow the link, but we'll copy the positives Garrett managed to highlight --

The Brewers got on the board with a long ball in the fourth inning. Trailing 7-0, Nicolas Pierre started the frame with a solo home run to left, his first of the season, getting the Brewers on the board. Pierre finished 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, his eighth straight two-hit game. Dallas Carroll also extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the seventh, and Milwaukee Brewers third-round pick KJ Harrison stretched his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the third inning.

***

Helena Box Score

The five Brewer pitchers combined to put 28 men on base -- not a misprint. When your team WHIP is over 3.00 on the evening, well, 'nuff said.

Nic Pierre doesn't quite have enough AB's to qualify for a batting tile, but should soon. If he did, his .375 would tie for 2nd, behind a Rockies' prospect at .393.

AZL Brewers 8, AZL Giants 2

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Can't imagine too many teams have scored 8 runs while walking twice and striking out 17 times, but here it is. Tristen Lutz and Je'Von Ward were both K'd 3 times and four other guys struck out twice.

On the bright side, and it's a win so it's really all just shades of bright, Kenny Corey logged another three hits and pushed his batting average back over .400. Pat McInerney extended his league lead in home runs as he hit #7, as part of a two hit effort. And besides his three Ks, Ward had two singles.

Jesus Lujano stole two bases and his 11 steals is tied for the AZL lead. Keston Hiura still leads the league in batting average and slugging, and he's second in triples. Corey is second in the league in doubles.

11th round pick Max Lazar made his pro debut and worked a scoreless first inning. His first batter faced was the highly touted Heliot Ramos, and he struck Ramos out. Wilfred Salaman pitched the next five innings, allowing two runs. He notched pickoffs #7 and #8 on the year. Kody Rock closed out the final three innings to earn his first pro save, allowing a double and striking out two.

The Brewers' team ERA keeps on tumbling, and while 4.79 doesn't sound great, it's 6th-best in 15 team league. There's a pretty big gap between 5th and 6th, though, as the Dodgers' team ERA sits at 4.10 currently.

I'd have to go back and look, but the Brewers' pitcher usage in the AZL this season seems to be abnormal from years past. There have been very few one inning outings. Almost all pitchers are asked to go multiple innings each time out. So instead of using 4-6 pitchers every game, it's often been just 3 or 4.

As their playoff push continues, the 16-6 Baby Brewers have magic number of 5. There are 6 games remaining in the first half.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Though they didn't know it, the Brewers put the game away early:

AZL Brewers Top of the 2nd

Pat McInerney singles on a ground ball to third baseman Jacob Gonzalez.

Kenny Corey singles on a fly ball to left fielder Ismael Munguia. Pat McInerney to 2nd.

Je'Von Ward singles on a fly ball to center fielder Heliot Ramos. Pat McInerney to 3rd. Kenny Corey to 2nd.

Tyler Lawrence singles on a fly ball to center fielder Heliot Ramos. Pat McInerney scores. Kenny Corey scores. Je'Von Ward to 2nd.

Francisco Thomas walks. Je'Von Ward to 3rd. Tyler Lawrence to 2nd.

Yeison Coca grounds into a force out, first baseman Nathanael Javier to shortstop Francisco Medina. Je'Von Ward scores. Tyler Lawrence to 3rd. Francisco Thomas out at 2nd. Yeison Coca to 1st.

Jesus Lujano singles on a ground ball to right fielder Diego Rincones. Tyler Lawrence scores. Yeison Coca to 3rd. Jesus Lujano to 2nd on the throw.

Pitching Change: Camilo Doval replaces Jake Greenwalt.

Tristen Lutz strikes out swinging.

Nick Egnatuk grounds out, second baseman Jose Rivero to first baseman Nathanael Javier.
