Carolina got out to an early 3-0 lead and then fell apart. Kodi Medeiros (6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K) got the start and most of the damage was done against him in the 5th inning. The triple he gave up was a ground ball down the 3rd base line that went into the corner.

Luke Barker and Scott Grist each gave up 2 runs in relief.

Trent Clark (2-4, 2 3B) lead the way on offense. One of his outs was a long fly caught on the warning track in centerfield. Jake Gatewood had an opposite field home run in 4 at bats. Corey Ray (2-5) and Isan Diaz (1-2, 2 BB) also chipped in.

Keston Hiura gets the "Player of the Game" Award pretty much by default -- another non-descript unsuccessful team effort in front of the home crowd, and the performances in the TV games have been almost unilaterally very poor.

Sky Sox Drop Series Finale

Colorado Springs wins 13 of 17 against Omaha in 2017 season series

Colorado Springs Box Score

Wily Peralta's rehab assignment started July 5th, decision time after the 30-day maximum stay.

Boy, Ivan De Jesus, Jr. could be a heck of a "throw-in" for a team in contention mode, but ironically for him this season, the Brewers are in the opposite trade mentality.

We miss Ryan Cordell (shoulder, we believe), last played June 26th.

AZL Brewers 3, AZL Cubs 2 (11 innings)

AZL Brewers Boxscore

The Brewers hold on to overcome the Cubs. Hmm.

Rob Henry lead the way on offense with 3 hits, all singles. No one else had more than one hit. The lone hit for extra bases was a 9th inning leadoff double from Pat McInerney that the team squandered.

Yeison Coca with his second game in a row played, and his second game in a row being pulled mid-game for Kenny Corey. Corey would score the winning run, see below.

The Brewers' team ERA after the 7-6 loss to the Indians on Sunday was 5.65. Three games of pretty great pitching later, it's down to 4.93. The starter was 2016 24th round pick Michael Gonzalez, who turns 19 tomorrow. Gonzalez pitched his best game of the season by far, allowing a run on 3 hits in 4 1/3 innings. His WHIP dropped from 3.33 to 2.63. The lone run was an inherited runner let in by Landon Holifield, who otherwise managed his sixth career outing of no earned runs allowed in his sixth career game. Austin Rubick made arguably his best pro appearance, allowing no earned runs in 2 1/3 innings, with 3 Ks against 1 walk.

NDFA Gabe Friese picked up the win with 3 2/3 flawless innings. Between outings on 7/9, 7/16, and last night, Friese struck out 7 batters in a row. Which includes the first two batters of last night's game. After getting a ground out to open the top of the ninth, Friese struck out the final two batters of that inning as well, making 9 strikeouts of 10 batters in a row. Not bad. Friese has now thrown 15 pro innings without allowing an earned run. Over those 15 innings, he's allowed 6 hits, 2 walks, and has struck out 16. Time for a promotion maybe?

The Baby Brewers' magic number is 6, and they maintain a 2 game lead over the Dodgers.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Nick Egnatuk knocks in the winning run:

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 11th

Pitching Change: Eury Ramos replaces Faustino Carrera.

Kenny Corey starts inning at 2nd base.

Robert Henry singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Eury Ramos. Kenny Corey to 3rd.

Eury Ramos intentionally walks Tristen Lutz. Robert Henry to 2nd.

Nick Egnatuk singles on a ground ball to shortstop Delvin Zinn. Kenny Corey scores. Robert Henry to 3rd. Tristen Lutz to 2nd.

Brewers Score Six Unanswered in 7-4 Win

As the summary linked above indicates, H-Crew in the midst of a division race no one is anxious to win.

After rough road trip, Brewers open home stand with win

Erik C. Anderson, Helena Independent Record

PHOTOS of Gabriel Garcia and Gilbert Lara among those at the article link, along with multiple quotes.

Also this --

Yeraldy Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice and, as Gilbert Lara made his play for home, sliding feet first, he was tagged out. On the play, though, Lara positioned his leg in an awkward manner and could not get back to his feet afterward. He had to be helped off the field with his right leg cocked at an outward angle, unable to put any weight on it.

Lara officially joined the Brewers on Thursday, dropping down from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He played 12 games in Helena in 2015, and then 59 in 2016. He started the 2017 season in Wisconsin. The 19-year-old is in his third pro season. At Wisconsin, he was hitting .193 and had 22 RBIs in 67 games.

“He had something on his ankle,” Manager Nestor Corredor said. “We'll figure it out. Unfortunately for him he just came today and had two games. He was having a good game. And now the injury happens. Right now there’s not much I can say.

“He slid late. He told me he touched the catcher. He made contact with the catcher but he did not hear any pop.”

By Biloxi Shuckers

Blake Allemand had two hits and lined out sharply twice in Thursday's loss to Mississippi. (Mark P Driscoll)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

Jon Perrin pitched four innings while giving up three runs and striking out five. The bullpen followed him up with a few solid outings, but the offense couldn't get a big hit when they needed it. Mississippi walked it off for a 5-4 win in the 12th off of Jorge Lopez. Offensively it was a quiet day with only one extra base hit in the twelve innings. The one double came off the bat of Angel Ortega.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Jon Perrin (4.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 5 K) started the game while Hiram Burgos (3.0 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K), Nick Ramirez (3.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K), and Jorge Lopez (1.0 IP, 2 H, ER) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Jacob Nottingham (2-5, R, RBI, BB)

Blake Allemand (2-5, RBI, BB)

Angel Ortega (1-5, R, 2B, RBI, 4 K)
