The Brewers have had a lot of .500ish teams. When you are that level of talent you sometimes outpay your talent to the point where you look like a playoff team and then it corrects itself. They also have had a good number of years where it feels like the first half derailed a potential playoff run where they got hot late. That is just how 50/50 win chance teams work, they look amazing for stretches and then useless for stretches.
