2017 Mid-Season BF.net Community Top 25 Prospect Poll - Voting is closed

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

We would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2017 Mid-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting.

Please take time and submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting.

Voting will begin on Tuesday, August 1 and conclude on Tuesday, August 8, which will give everyone about a week to vote. You can change your votes at anytime through the 8th, so I recommend getting your picks in early. You can always go back and tweak your list.

This should give everyone plenty of time to consider any new players we may acquire - as well as bump up guys in case any prospects are traded.

RULES

1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on Tuesday, August 8. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion (such as Devin Williams and Taylor Williams).

2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included.

3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25 - adding a few more is totally fine. That way if someone in your top 25 is traded or released, or if you mistakenly miss a number, or list a guy twice, or whatever, I can just bump up your next player(s) into the Top 25.

4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc.

4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread. I'll accept changes up to the deadline.

5. Within a week after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.

Eligibility guidelines:

Rookie eligibility is determined by 50 IP or 130+ ABs at the major league level.

- Ineligible players: Tyler Cravy, Brent Suter, Jacob Barnes, Oliver Drake, Manny Pina, Jesus Aguilar

- Eligible players with ML experience: Josh Hader, Paolo Espino, Tyler Webb, Wei-Chung Wang, David Goforth, Jorge Lopez, Michael Reed, Yadiel Rivera, Yhonathan Barrios, Adrian Houser, Lewis Brinson, Brett Phillips, Sean Nolan

Player notes:

- Josh Hader has technically graduated from MLB's rookie eligibility list due to more than 45 days on the roster. But we just look at innings pitched - and he has less than 20 this year - so he's eligible for our list.

- Devin Williams will miss all of 2017 after Tommy John surgery

- P Damien Magnifico was traded

- 1B Garrett Cooper has been traded

- Ryan Cordell has been traded

New players to consider:

- 1st round pick 2B Keston Hiura

- Competitive balance round A pick OF Tristen Lutz

- 2nd round pick RHP Caden Lemons

- 3rd round pick C/1B KJ Harrison

- LHP Tyler Webb (acquired for Garrett Cooper)

- International signees, including OF Larry Ernesto, OF Carlos Rodriguez, OF/1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.

I want to make this note: Josh Hader has technically graduated from MLB's rookie eligibility list due to more than 45 days on the roster. But we just look at innings pitched for our Top 25 - and he has less than 20 IP this year - so he's eligible for our list.

Just want things to be clear for people as they vote.

1. RHP Corbin Burnes – The statistical dominance is greater than that shown by Brent Suter in 2015/2016.

2. LHP Josh Hader – His floor is as Milwaukee’s closer of the future.

3. OF Troy Stokes Jr. – Probably the best all-around offensive outfielder in the system

4. OF Trent Clark – He has extra-base power, and arguably the best OBP skills in the system

5. 2B Isan Diaz – Don’t dismiss him due to the .230 batting average – he’s drawn 57 BB in 414 plate appearances, and is slugging .381

6. SS/3B/1B Jake Gatewood – Maybe move him back to short next year, and really reap the benefits of his bat.

7. RHP Nate Griep – Dominating as a closer

8. C/IF Gabriel Garcia – Love the bat, and the versatility, but if he can catch, keep him there.

9. C Payton Henry – Possible 3TO bat behind the plate

10. 3B Lucas Erceg – Jump up to A+ Carolina may have been too aggressive.

11. OF Monte Harrison – Finally putting it all together

12. OF Michael Reed – 35 BB in 205 plate appearances, plus 7 homers – perhaps the only player who has better OBP skills than Trent Clark

13. OF/2B Keston Hiura – Hitting like we expected, but is he just a DH?

14. OF Lewis Brinson – Finally turning up in Milwaukee.

15. RHP Jon Perrin – Vanished for a lot of the season, but pitching well when he has pitched.

16. RHP Freddy Peralta – Still striking them out.

17. RHP Cody Ponce – Putting up solid numbers.

18. RHP Brandon Woodruff – Missed time with injury, but should be ready for 2018.

19. RHP Luis Ortiz – Looks like an inning-eater at worst.

20. IF/OF Weston Wilson – Still versatile, and the bat looks solid.

21. C Cooper Hummel – .757 OPS despite batting only .239 – good power, good OBP skills.

22. OF Brett Phillips – Not a bad prospect, but Clark, Stokes, Harrison, and Brinson are all more exciting.

23. LHP Wei-Chung Wang – Shifted to bullpen and dominated.

24. LHP Nick Ramirez – Older than typical prospects, but offers a new “Toolsheld” for the bullpen.

25. 3B Dallas Carroll – Average, and walks. The next Cirillo?

26. RHP Angel Ventura – Just misses, but not getting killed in CO Springs, and solid performance. A sleeper?

27. C Josh Nottingham – Looks okay, but probably the fourth-best catching prospect in the system.

28. 1B Ronnie Gideon – A hot June and better OBP skills can’t prevent a drop when he’s slumped most of the season.

29. OF Corey Ray – Should have done better repeating A+.

30. RHP Marcos Diplan – Clearly regressed from 2016.

31. SS Maurico Dubron – He’s got speed, but is he just a backup IF?

32. RHP Bubba Derby – Solid bullpen option.

33. OF/C Clint Coulter – Get him back behind the plate. The bat is acceptable there.

34. C Mitch Ghelfi – Lost the season on the DL.

Note: Stats are from Baseball-Reference as of the time of this post.

EDIT: Flipped Stokes and Trent Clark

Interested to see how this list shakes out. A lot of struggling top prospects, former top guys finding something, and many other interesting storylines. Going to be a ton of movement when we didn't add/lose much of anything.

My ballot has shuffled a lot since the pre-season. Burnes has come up huge - the stats point to a TOR guy who could be in Milwaukee by 2018. Stokes and Clark are two of the best offensive prospects in the system. They have power, they have OBP skills, and they have speed. Despite a sub-.240 batting average, Isan Diaz has posted some very good power and OBP numbers.

Some folks climbed out of nowhere, some faded. Ronnie Gideon has disappointed, but his June production and his better OBP leave some hope he'll rebound.

And I'm sure Josh Nottingham at 27, behind three other catchers will generate some heat...

1) Brinson- Nothing left to prove in the minors

2) Hader- I still think he can start long term

3) Woodruff- Not too worried about his stats in CS, the walks are a bit more than I'd like though.

4) Hiura- Its too SSS to worry about yet, but please take a few walks soon.

5) Burnes- On track for Brewers MiLB pitcher fo the year

6) L. Ortiz- Seemingly turned a corner and the Brewers seem to be forcing him to develop his full arsenal so lack of elite results is less concerning

7) Clark- Unique player, but has shown improvement in K:BB and power that you hope for. Everything is trending in the right direction.

8) I. Diaz- Not the season envisioned, but not disastrous

9) Bickford- Well at least the Brewers do not have to worry about overworking him

10) Dubon- Not sure there is an everyday player here yet, but he still flashes

11) Phillips- When/where does he get his shot? I'd be satisfied with the strong side of a platoon

12) Peralta- 21 and missing advanced bats at an elite rate, would like to see the double digit BB rate come down though

13) M. Harrison-If this was a make or break year, he certainly didn’t break.

14) Lutz- Productive start, looks ready for A ball in 2018.

15) Ray- He hit the most home runs in future game batting practice!

16) T. Williams- Control is the last thing to return after Tommy John, but the Brewers cold use his arm so hopefully it comes soon.

17) Stokes- Too late to learn 2nd base? Not sure he has the tools to break through the crowded outfield situation, but he does everything well

18) Ponce- Not overwhelming hitters, but he is productive enough that it is time for the next step on the development latter.

19) Yamamoto- If he can keep locating his breaking pitch, he can get advanced hitters out

20) Erceg- We will get to see how he adjusts to struggles I guess.

21) Herrera- DJ Peterson was recently DFAed. Remember when people thought we should demand him for Lind? Too bad Stearns didn’t take a similar approach with Khris Davis

22) J. Lopez- After a full winter ball season and a WBC, Im willing to entertain the theory he is just exhausted currently.

23) M. Feliciano- He is still younger than a lot of the high schoolers just drafted, and it might not be a bad thing long term that his bat isnt too far ahead of his glove yet

24) Medeiros- The results are going the right direction. Still would like to see a run of dominance

25) Perrin- The numbers still look like someone who has MLB future

26) Wilkerson- Time to give him a shot. There could be a effective controllable starter.

27) Diplan- Discouraging results for the near preseason top 100 prospect. Still youngish and healthy though

28) Supak- His K rate dropping in A+ was discouraging, but may be a back end starter here yet.

29) Webb- My refusal to admit Im wrong keeps him in my top 30, but his A ball performance leaves much to be desired

30) Lemons- Doesn’t seem like the type of prospect the Brewers have success with, but there is a first time for everything

1. OF-Lewis Brinson

2. LHP-Josh Hader - he is this good by just throwing fastballs and walking more batters than hits allowed so far....just wait till he reaches his ceiling with Derek Johnson.

3. 2B-Keston Hiura

4. RHP-Brandon Woodruff

5. RHP-Luis Ortiz

6. 2B-Isan Diaz

7. OF-Corey Ray - Will give him the benefit of the doubt since the kid didn't even have an offseason recovering from injury. But this time next year if the stats are similar expect a huge drop. Very concerning that his stats are what they are with his BABIP when you compare it to the rest of the guys at A+.

8. RHP-Corbin Burnes

9. OF-Brett Phillips - Look for him to be our super 4th outfielder because of his left handedness compared to the right hand dominated outfield, and his ability to play all three positions. With Braun's injury history I don't think Philips will get lost in the shuffle at all like some think.

10. 3B-Lucas Erceg - Love watching his swing, and he has an absolute cannon at 3B.

11. RHP-Freddy Peralta - Watching hitters trying to hit his slider is a treat.

12. C-Jacob Nottingham - I bet that I am probably higher on Nottingham than pretty much everybody. Watching him catch last year vs. this year is like night and day and once he hones that in even more I expect the bat to take off.

13. OF-Monte Harrison - Bat speed is incredible

14. RHP-Taylor Williams - Will be in the Brewers pen next year

15. UTIL-Maurcio Dubon - Probably will have him lower on the list than most, just not sure he has much extra base ability in the bat to be a regular.

16. OF-Trent Clark

17. RHP-Marcos Diplan

18. OF-Tristen Lutz - When you read blurbs about the Brewers draft room thinking about taking him at #9 it is hard not to get excited about his potential.

21. 1B-Jake Gatewood

1. OF Lewis Brinson

2. LHP Josh Hader -- Basically tied with Brinson for me. Love what I've seen at the big league level.

3. 2B Keston Hiura

4. RHP Luis Ortiz -- Almost a full year younger than everyone's new favorite Burnes. Workhorse potential.

5. 2B Isan Diaz -- Disappointing year, but still great tools.

6. OF Corey Ray -- See Diaz, Isan

7. OF Brett Phillips -- At worst a 4-tool player, just needs the hit tool to progress a bit.

8. 3B Lucas Erceg -- Much better since May, seems to be adjusting.

9. RHP Brandon Woodruff

10. RHP Corbin Burnes -- Hard to put him this low, just prefer the ceiling of the players ahead on the list.

11. IF Mauricio Dubon -- At worst, likely a good utility man. At best, could be an answer at 2B.

12. OF Trent Clark -- Needs to make more contact, but love the walk rate, speed, and improving power output.

13. RHP Freddy Peralta

14. OF Monte Harrison -- Have a gut feeling this will look low soon enough. Freak athlete starting to put it together (stay healthy!)

15. OF Tristen Lutz

16. C Mario Feliciano -- My favorite catcher in the system. Holding his own as an 18 year old in A ball.

17. RHP Cody Ponce

18. IF Jake Gatewood -- Has come back to earth a bit, still strikes out too much, but the bat is interesting.

19. RHP Marcos Diplan

20. RHP Phil Bickford -- Looking forward to seeing him in box scores again.

21. LHP Kodi Medeiros -- I'm becoming more of a believer.

22. RHP Trey Supak

23. RHP Jordan Yamamoto

24. OF Demi Orimoloye

25. C/1B K.J. Harrison -- Would be great if he can make it at catcher. Bat seems legit.

5 that were hard to keep off:

26. RHP Josh Pennington

27. RHP Caden Lemons

28. RHP Bubba Derby -- Must admit, surprised with his upper-level success this year. Maybe we have something.

29. OF Troy Stokes -- 41 XBH, 21 SB in a really nice season for the 21 year old.

30. 1B Gabriel Garcia -- Love the OBP, and overall the offensive output for this teenager in rookie ball.
