Brewers Acquire LHP Tyler Webb for Garrett Cooper

I've always liked Cooper as a player but Thames and Aguilar are better overall bats, power clearly playing a role. Thames has 3yrs control and Aguilar 5. Aguilar is also 5 months older than Cooper. All of this makes Cooper expendable. It's pretty straight forward. Good to see Cooper get an opportunity in NY.

I like Wang, would like to see him get a shot. But I'll take Webb over him any day. Throws harder, better stuff, similar control, MUCH better K9. It doesn't make any sense to put Webb in AAA either. He can replace Scahill immediately adding a 2nd lefty to the pen.

While I can see Hader trade discussions taking place, because you should always listen, I highly doubt Stearns is actively shopping him.

I think Aguilar made Cooper expendable.

If Ty Webb is going to be on the active roster, I think it only makes sense that they also bring up Noonan from Col Springs...right?

Tremendous idea!

Also props to the person to post the Ty Webb pic. Made me laugh.

Seems like a good move. This is the type of thing I'd rather see at this point in the "re-build."

Except he was traded to Miami a couple months ago.

..and then traded back to Milwaukee on June 16th. Apparently he got caught messing around with Jeff Loria's niece.

Sonja Henie's out...

Maybe Mitch Comestein?

If Webb does go to AAA, Tim Dillard has got to do a bit on his twitter feed with Webb and Noonan.

More likely they are shopping Hader than thinking about putting him in the rotation. Just food for thought. Webb could be pen insurance and more importantly Hader replacement insurance. Just a possibility in the craziness of trading season.

I really don't think they would be shopping him at this point. He has been great in pen so far & he is arguably our highest ceiling starter/reliever. I feel starter is higher chance than shopping him. But like you said.... this time of year is craziness and anything can happen.

Overall, Webb can be extremely effective Loogy they could use in pen. Hader is not a loogy at all. He can give you 1+ innings vs either side & be lights out. Nice to have two lefty options. One that can give you multiple innings if needed like Will Smith did and a guy who can come in and more specialize. Webb has ability to get righties out but is very good verse lefties.

His k9 & Ks to innings have been lights out in his career! Like the trade. Really looking like Wang doesn't really factor into our future much.

Still dont understand what this has to do with Wangs future. Hader could go bacj k to starting next year, even if he doesn't he's not blocking Wang. They can have multiple lefties in the pen, used in different ways. Haders role, for example, has little to do with being LH.

Relievers are a dime a dozen...giving up Cooper is a mistake in my opinion...This might block Wang even more, who I think is actually better than Webb...Can't wait to see how Webb does in Colorado Springs.

Completely agree. If Cooper gets a true shot, he might be the real deal. Nothing wrong with Wang either.

Yea, it's too bad in a way, but there's just no room for Cooper. They would have needed to add him to the 40 next year. Keep in mind part of the plan moving forward at some point could be Braun or Santana moving to 1B either full time or part time.

So as long as they had to move him, I'm just glad it's for a pitcher- relief pitcher or not. Not sure this has anything to do with Wang, plenty of room for more than one LHP.

I would have kept Cooper and moved Aguilar this winter. Aguilar probably gets more of a return. I really love Aguilar's bat too, but Cooper has an edge athletically and could be used in the OF and has option years that come in handy. Boston felt like they had to move Shaw too and they got burned with a reliever in return.

We picked up a lefty reliever who will probably pitch for the Brewers at some point in the second half, and gave up a position player who - despite great numbers - was not likely to be called up in the 2nd half (even if Thames went down & Aguilar needed a day off, I suspect they'd play Sogard at 1b over calling someone up)

...and who would be taking up a spot on a very crowed 40-man roster (EDIT: next year)?

Short of Cooper becoming the next Jeff Bagwell, hard not to like this trade.

Seems like a perfect fit for both teams. Are people sure that the intention isn't to see if Webb can start? I realize he hasn't really done that in the minors and has been pretty successful. He does look like he has a 3 pitch mix (fangraphs). Seems like it might be worth a trial sometime in the future; maybe not this season if the plan is to fast track him to the bullpen.

Never like trading every day player for pitcher, but Webb is obviously a lefty out the BP which the Brewers lack (Hader is a starter). Hope he works out.

That's how you get controllable ML ready pitching.

Bingo

If Webb pans out, we have him controlled for a long time vs trading for a veteran MLB reliever who is a rental or only controlled a year or two.
