Milwaukee looking Young

Recommended Posts

Community Moderator

Some expect the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to take Rickie Weeks, who reportedly will visit with Rays officials on Tuesday, with the top overall pick.

It seems like the media is absolutly mystified with this draft, as who the D'Rays' are expected to pick seems to change almost daily.

Since they brought Young in individually, does this mean that they're not planning on having the massive pre-draft workout from previous years, or is Young just in such high demand that he won't be able to make it?

It quotes that Weeks will not be visiting the Brewers, so it doesnt look like the Brewers are even interested in him. If Loewen did sign then and the Rays took Young we could possilbly be looking at Stauffer then, but I hope that doesnt happen because I dont think he is a worthy #2 pick.

Also, check out Delmon Youngs preformance at the workout. It seems like he put on more of a mashing then Prince did last year, and he is more athletic. Wow the possiblities. I'm now on the Delmon bandwagon.

DRAFT YOUNG!!!!

Jim Powell talked with Delmon Young on the pre-game show yesterday, and both Bob Uecker & Ned Yost also talked about him at length during their segment of the pre-game show. He really turned some heads.

No, that's not true. The Brewers are VERY interested in Weeks, and just because they're not bringing him in doesn't mean they don't have interest in him. If Loewen signs with the O's & Young goes 1st overall to Tampa Bay, I would be VERY surprised if the Brewers reach for Stauffer with Weeks sitting there.

Didn't week's Southern team qualify for postseason? Could that cause schedualing conflicts that are keeping the Crew from working out Weeks? Also, isn't it more common for High School players to come in for workouts than college players? I be shocked if the Crew wasn't enamored with Weeks, he is the field rat type the Melvin wants to add to the organization and he has special physical tools. His work ethic, speed, lightning quick hands, bat control, and soft hands with some power potential reminds me a little of Paul Molitor. Neither player had quite enough arm to play SS, and Paulie was raw defensively early on too. There was talk of making Paulie a CF early , just as with Weeks, but all Weeks needs is more reps at 2nd.

That's a good call X. Weeks has more pressing issues to deal with since his team is indeed in the NCAA playoffs.

However, the D-Rays & reportedly one other team were able to schedule a private workout with Weeks over the past week. Plus, Weeks' regular season has been over for several weeks now, so the Brewers could have had plenty of opportunities to see what he can do in front of their brass. Who knows, maybe he already did? I think we've heard reports of Melvin getting out to see all 4 of the top guys on the Brewers' list, so maybe they've already seen enough of him.

Regardless of the situation, without a doubt the Brewers like Rickie Weeks.

And Paul Molitor is a pretty fair comparison based on potential. I think Weeks will have a little less speed but a little to potentially a lot more power.
