Trent Clark batting for the Carolina Mudcats. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

The Mudcats rallied for 3 in the 4th inning to take the lead 3-2 but gave it back in the 6th and couldn't score any more runs. Marcos Diplan (5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K) took the loss. He put 2 men on in the 6th, both of whom scored when Frank Lopez (2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K) came in. Brad Kuntz and Nate Griep each worked a scoreless inning.

Trent Clark (3-4, 2B, 3B) was the big story at the plate. The triple was mis-played by the centerfielder who never saw the ball off the bat but he may not have been able to catch it anyway. It hit close the wall in centerfield on a fly. Jake Gatewood (1-4, 2B) and Luis Aviles (1-4, RBI, SB) also contributed.

Colorado Springs Box Score

RHP Tristan Archer the only Sky Sox pitcher to shine, as he normally does -- it's been a rough 2017 for 2016 Biloxi closer Stephen Kohlscheen. And RHP Tom Wilhelmsen has been rocked in his eight Sky Sox appearances to the tune of a 2.50 WHIP and 17.05 ERA.

Colorado Springs Game Log

Yeah, that one hurt. Chris detailed it very well as always.

Nice night for the bottom of the order, top, not so much. First rough night for 6th round SS Devin Hairston (Louisville), 0-for-5 with three K's and his first error.

77 RBI for Cooper on July 6. Yes it's Colorado Springs, but that's an amazing total. Almost as amazing is that he nearly has as many extra base hits (44) as strikeouts (46).

77 RBIs is a big tribute to those around him too. This is possibly the best AAA that I can remember that wasn't a team full of AAAA players.

AZL Padres #2 7, AZL Brewers 3

AZL Brewers Boxscore

Thirteen more baserunners for the Baby Brewers, but some late pitching miscues brought the club to their third loss in eleven games.

Thursday night marked the first time all season that no member of the starting lineup achieved a multi-hit game. Seven different players had one hit, including a career-first home run from 24 year-old NDFA Julian Jarrard, and a double from 39th round pick Robert Henry. Jarrard drove in a run via sacrifice fly as well. The team drew six walks, including two from 38th rounder Robie Rojas (who also had a single).

Joaquin De La Cruz made the start and pitched five solid innings of one-run ball. As is the usual for him, he got six outs via ground ball and none in the air. NDFA righty Kadon Simmons made his pro debut and surrendered two runs in his inning of work.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Keston Hiura extends his career-opening hitting streak to nine games:
