Sogard DL'd, Rivera recalled, Reed outrighted

And That

Broxton is always going to strike out a ton. The Brewers can't keep setting the new major league record for strikeouts every year. I hope this was the last of him in the everyday lineup. I know it means he becomes a wasted asset but I just can't stomach any more at bats with him squandering a RISP and less than 2 outs with yet another K.

Time to infuse the lineup with some guys who consistently put the bat on the ball

I mean I know Broxton strikes out way too much and it's a problem he needs to fix if he's going to be a career starting caliber CF at the MLB level, but if you're expecting Phillips to be a big upgrade in that department you're likely going to be disappointed.

Maybe this season but Phillips is younger and has a different learning curve than Broxton. If Phillips put up Broxtons numbers this year we would probably be accepting it. But Broxton is an older "prospect" so he doesn't get the same leeway as a Phillips.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

For one, it's not hard to improve on "leading the league in strikeouts" as is the case with Broxton. And two, where did I say anything about Phillips?

He's just saying that Phillips strikes out a lot too (nearly 30% in Colorado Springs this year) so if you're frustrated with Broxton's at bats, you're probably going to be frustrated with Phillips too.

Am I'm just saying it won't be hard to improve from a guy leading the league in strikeouts. Phillips isn't the only option. This isn't that hard guys.

My comment was that it's time to infuse the lineup in various places with guys that won't contribute to setting a new strikeout record every year. Replacing the league leader is a good place to start. As an organization they need to do a better job making contact.

And you're still unlikely to see that any time soon with or without Broxton. Phillips will strike out a ton. Brinson will strike out a lot. For your future CF options, that's about it. Between guys like Ray, Clark, and Diaz, I don't see this trend changing anytime soon. We're a team that hits a lot of HRs and strikes out a lot. That's what we do, and we're 7th in the league in scoring so it does work for us to some degree.

Dubon is probably the guy you're looking for; otherwise I don't see this trend changing anytime soon.

Broxton can be the next Mike Cameron--great D, good OBP, and power. He's young and making adjustments, but has time

He's not that young. It's not impossible he figures it out and lowers his K rate, but not very likely.

One thing I've been wondering, has he had his vision tested? Who know, maybe he's in the same situation as Gatewood. Even if vision is tested, is he the type of guy that just doesn't want glasses or contacts? You would think they check for this every year, but I don't know that for a fact, or how in depth the exam is. Broxton does appear to be squinting at times. A long shot I know, just throwing it out there.

I do not think think there is anything wrong with his vision. Last I checked I don't think he chases that many pitches outside the zone. So it isn't like he isn't registering if it is a strike or not. I think his hand eye coordination just isn't that good. He flat out whiffs constantly on meatball pitches. I don't think Keon Broxton is ever going to lower his K%. Because of that he is going to be average at best and likely worse with all the cold streaks.

Those emphasized statements have been precisely what I've been thinking for a while. When you compare the Brewers to the other NL Central teams, there's a huge disparity in strikeouts. Including Broxton, the Brewers have four players with over 100 Ks this year, the Reds have one, the rest have zero.

I know the philosophical debate about strikeouts versus other ways of making outs or whether "productive outs" even exist. One benefit of all the strikeouts is that the Brewers are low in the league for grounding into double plays. They still lead the division in runs/game. But perhaps fewer "all-or-nothing" at bats with RISP during this past week would've meant the difference and kept the losing streak to two or three games instead of six.

If nothing else, I would imagine that with the ball he took to the face earlier this season his vision would have been tested, considering where he got hit.
