Jhoulys Chacin

Chacin might be the best rental option out there. Last 5 starts: 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA. Anyone speculate what the Pads would want? He's a FA after this year so they can't be too demanding. Would fit nicely with the Latin contingent on the Brewers.

He gives up too many HRs, he's not young or controlled, and his home/away splits from pitcher friendly PETCO are an absolute nightmare. I think he'd be a disaster at Miller Park .

Don't see how he's an upgrade from our internal options.

He had his 3 bad starts all on the road where he allowed 23 ER. Two of those starts were in April and one in May. In case you haven't noticed there have been a lot of HR hit at Petco this year too. Pads have hit 46 HR at home and their slugging is exactly the same home and road. Their pitchers have allowed nearly same number of HR home and away, 53 vs. 56. Park effects are figured in WAR, and his WAR through have a season is 1.4. This is a guy with a 4.21 career ERA in Coors. I don't think Miller Park would be an issue.

He was an effective starter in Colorado but that was 4 years ago, he's well removed from being that player.

That's fine that PETCO hasn't been as pitcher friendly as usual this year but that doesn't change the fact that Chacin has been terribly bad anywhere but PETCO. The WAR is surprisingly good but I'd take that with a big grain of salt especially from a pitcher.

Woodruff should be back in a week or two and I'd rather give him that extra spot in the meantime. I'm not sure Chacin is worth even a win over Suter/Blazek/Woodruff until Anderson returns.
