Starters available

In house options:

1. Josh Hader- Split Monday's start between he and someone else (Lopez, Blazek). Let Hader go three (50 pitches) and build from there is he is successful. If not, hello bullpen.

2. Michael Blazek- Previous MLB success. Deserving of another look.

3. Aaron Wilkerson- Was hoping Lopez would get optioned and he would get recalled for Monday. The Brewers need to see what he was before September. Wasting away in AA.

4. Jorge Lopez- Looks very hittable. Another pitcher who needs audition before 2018.

5. Brandon Woodruff- My #1 option if he was healthy.

6. Paolo Espino- Just doesn't have it at a MLB.

My guess is I will see Espino Monday and Hader will continue to waste away in the pen.

Anyone think a Bubba Derby, Brett Phillips package could land Gray? Or would Brewers have to include one of their controllable depth pieces Aguilar or Perez? A's know Derby.

No and no again.

Minimum for Gray is Brinson, Ortiz, and one of Cordell Harrison Lopez and Ray. The A's will not settle for less. I don't believe Gray is worth anything close to what they will want.

Yeah, I tend to think the A's will want some premium talent back for the 2+ years of Gray. I don't think Phillips will be enough. Gray's peripherals and ticked up velocity are all in the right direction. I think he'd be worth some premium talent. I don't know what it would take. Have we had any controllable young arms similar to him or Quintana moved at the deadline recently? For whatever reason I can't recall anything to make a decent comp to.

It's somewhat an enticing thought (if you believe that Nelson and Anderson's improvements are for real, and sustainable then a rotation over the next couple seasons of

Gray

Nelson

Anderson

Woodruff/Hader

Davies

is pretty appealing. On the other hand, I still don't think that beats the Cubs when they're playing well or is enough to beat the Dodgers or Nationals in a series this season. So, at this point I guess I'm leaning towards holding what we have. On any given day you could talk me back the other way though. It's a real tough decision imo, the further we get into the season. Few teams have the minor league talent and the flexible (I'd assume) payroll to take on salary if needed as the Brewers do.

When the Royals were falling out of the race I thought Vargas would be a good target. I doubt they're selling at this point though.

Gray isn't worth Ray/Brinson/Ortiz/+ and the Brewers are definitely not going to give that up. Attanasio said he won't pressure Stearns and Stearns really seems like the type that would avoid such a trade at this stage.

Let's put Freddy Peralta on the trade watch. While he gave up 3ER in 3.2IP he had 9ks in his AA debut. That's 87ks in 60IP now for him on the season. Lots of Bullpen Pitchers with Starting potential. I think it will be hard for Stearns to give up what he'll have to give up to get a Gray or Quintana. Brewers won't be the only team making high offers to trade for them. The Yankees being one of them on Quintana. I agree on Gray, I wouldn't put a deal together for him. I think we seen the best out of him and it's downhill from there. A lot like Jordan Zimmerman who had even more of a track record than Gray does.

We do have guys to trade and get a compelling player. JA Happ I'd look in to. Toronto looks like a team that could take an OF prospect in their system near ML ready. Cordell or Phillips. You could probably part with Diplan or Peralta and a lotto type.

If he were healthy, Matt Shoemaker also an add on that I wouldn't think would hurt the minors but help the team overall. These two are AL pitchers who in the NL you'd expect some better stats. Happ has Post season experience 13mil for 2018. You could keep him or trade him in offseason. Just like Garza. Maybe keep him and trade Garza in the offseason.
