Isn't Sogard in the lineup solely because he's been putting together good at-bats? So your guy, who you need to put together a good at-bat, who has been putting together good at-bats, gets pulled so you can pitch-hit a guy who strikes out a lot and predictably swings through 3 pitches? K.

Well it was fun to believe for a while but this is what this team is.

First place?

We're 2 games over . 500. Let's be honest, we're in 1st because the rest of the division has stunk, and that's not going to hold up for 162 games.

Given pre season expectations we are just playing about right where we should be, maybe a little better. But this isn't a playoff team after 162 games.

Some of this I understand because it's a reaction to another game we very easily could've won but on the other hand, my god people. You will wake up tomorrow and they will still be in first place on June 29th. Your imaginations have run wild to think this team was going to run away with this division at any point.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

We're all fans but you can be realistic. There's a reason they were a 150-1 shot to win the pennant this year. And it's ok, it's supposed to be a rebuilding year. It's a lot more important for the organization to see Hader pitch scoreless innings and Arcia to hit like he has lately than to worry about Thames and Jesus striking out.

Especially after watching Anderson go down today. With this rotation as bad as it is its a killer when the best pitcher is hurt.

They were never going to run away with it, but this was the stretch where they had the opportunity against a soft schedule to really put some ground between them and the rest of the division.

I never thought they'd run away with it, but I thought if they really were a contender, they'd build on this stretch and start making hay on the easy schedule . They haven't . I think this is just a .500 team -- and they basically have been.

Maybe they won't. But maybe they will be. I'm guessing you didn't have them in first after 80 games either. You just never know when the streaks are gonna happen. Maybe they will go win 10-15 straight in August? You just never know but I do know they are in a good position to compete for the division.

I didn't have them in 1st after 80 games because I didn't think the rest of the division would be this bad. 41-39 isn't that hard to believe .

Okay great. So maybe then the rest of the division isn't that good or dealing with their own crap the rest of the way. People always want to crown the Cubs as a dynasty or just expect the Cards to win the division. Maybe hey just stink just enough for us to win the division with 85 wins.

I honestly feel as though 30% of Brewers fans would still gripe about winning a subpar division.

No this is way different and worse than past losses. Their best starter went down today and may miss an extended period of time. That would be incredibly tough to overcome.

I'm merely pointing out that this team isn't supposed to contend anyway. When they inevitably fall out of this there are still tons of positives to this season, there's a lot of young talent playing well.

[sarcasm]Yep, no team ever goes through a tough stretch except last place teams. Pack it up on June 28th, season's done.[/sarcasm]

A team like this which is probably lucky to be over .500 can't go through stretches like this against a series of awful teams. This is where they have to luck into the playoffs. We were always going to be a team in an awkward spot come trade deadline but these types of games make me believe we should straight up sell and not worry if it means we miss a playoff by a game. This team really isn't good enough to go past the first round of the playoffs and I would hate to see us buy because we hung around until late July just to see us completely tank the rest of the way. We need to be 4 or 5 games up in 1st place in the division and in striking distance of the wild card to be anything but a seller. I just don't see it happening.

Why not stand pat and make trades in the offseason? No one is a FA; everyone is under control or contract for next season. Garza hasn't been great but if he can continue what he's done since coming off the DL last season he's a bargain at $5M next season.

No one is saying buy (unless it's an OF prospect for young, controlled talent at another position). Just ride the waves, see where things are in four weeks. And they're exactly that - waves.

I wish we can take advantage of the cubs but it is where we are just hope they won't fool around with the rebulid. It does hurt to lose to these teams bit hope we can stay in first till July 4th and then the allstar game

I would also sell, or at least, not buy.

Chase Anderson is heading to the DL and going to miss significant time. Unless you think Nelson and Davies are going to carry this rotation it's just not happening this year IMO.

Stay the course on the rebuild. This was never meant to be 'our' year, but we've learned some things and likely found our 3B of the next 5 years.

Also, I love Knebel and he's been so awesome but it kills me to lose a game on basically a walk, on the one guy you absolutely cannot walk.

Hamilton has a terrible bat. He's of little danger until he's on base. So don't even take a chance on doing that. Don't even go into a 3 ball count on him, just go after him. If he beats you, so be it.

Yes, if any pitcher ever walks Hamilton the kangaroo court should really fine the crap out of them. It wouldn't have been so bad if Pina was back there, Hamilton would have to think twice about stealing at least.
