Ivan DeJesus is 8 for his last 8 with a walk.

Make that 9 for his last 9 with a walk. That's incredible at any level. I wonder what the record is for consecutive ABs with getting on base with at least 80% being hits.

Mudcats outlast Astros 6-5 in 15-inning road game

Eric Hanhold struck out nine over 4.0 innings and earned the win

By Carolina Mudcats | June 28, 2017 12:54 AM ET

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/3/8/227353038/cuts/16x9_Hanhold_p29iftsz_8uppahv6.jpg

Eric Hanhold pitching for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Eric Hanhold (4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K) picked a good time to have, arguably, his best game of the year. He picked up the win and is now 5-2. Jordan Yamamoto (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 8 K) started the game. The two runs he gave up should have been unearned. With two out in the 3rd inning, Jake Gatewood missed a popup that landed fair but rolled foul. He was not given an error however. The batter then hit a home run. The next hitter hit a triple and scored on a balk when Yamamoto tripped while making a pitch. Nate Griep was given a blown save when he gave up a two run home run to tie the game in the 9th but really they were trying to squeeze a 3rd inning out of him so give him a mulligan on that one. Quintin Torres-Costa worked a 1-2-3 15th with 2 K's to pick up his first save. The Hawaiian contingent are now calling themselves "Hawaii KO".

On the offensive side, Monte Harrison (3-6, 2B, HR, BB) led the way. Troy Stokes Jr was 2-7 with a double. Lucas Erceg was 3-7 with two doubles and drove in the first two runs with his second double. Cooper Hummel was 0-4 but walked 3 times. Trent Clark was 1-6 and had 4 K's although he did have a walk and a stolen base to go with that. He was also caught trying to steal home (now 17/20 in SB's).

Colorado Springs Game One Box Score

As the summary you just read noted, this was a 2nd consecutive game scoring 14 runs for the good guys. That's the beauty of the "link" part of the report, as you just dive in now to the box and digest all you can.

Colorado Springs Game One Game Log

This was RHP Angel Ventura's first start at the Springs, as his prior three starts had all been on the road, including the most recent two in pitcher-friendly Memphis and New Orleans. His line reflects that.

Colorado Springs Game Two Box Score

Yes, Ivan De Jesus, Jr. is 11-for-12 with a walk in his last three games, behold. Nothing new, we've been highlighting his consistency here for weeks.

Now seems like a fine time to link to the Sky Sox' individual stats page, where you'll see that it certainly isn't a small sample anymore at this point in the season for many.

Note that for any individual player page, you can click on "Splits" and compare home and away. In the case of De Jesus, Jr., the travel split is not extreme at all, it is more so for Garrett Cooper, who sat out Game Two.

Colorado Springs Game Two Game Log

RHP Bubba Derby with a big bounceback season (trust your Brewers professional scouts and David Stearns much more often than not); RHP Tom Wilhelmsen needed a nice clean frame, and he got it.

Toby ("And That") will have the details of a Helena walk-off extra-inning win a bit later this AM.

We appreciate everyone's patience as we Link Reporters balance home and work life as well, across a variety of time zones, and given the often late-night nature of these games, to do our reports justice.

That said, it's another day for a pesky matinee game, as the Sky Sox pre-game audio will kick off at 1:00 PM Central, the boys go from evening doubleheader to daytime affair. Seems like that has the makings of a Tim Dillard classic feature film on quick turnaround somehow. Look for the new Link Report just prior to gametime.

Where did that outing from Hanhold come from? Been a long time he had a dominating appearance like that.

Sky Sox bats are unreal, and really makes you wonder how good Brinson/ Phillips really are. I swear, you could put Ray, Erceg, Clark, etc. in CS and they would have better numbers than they do now.

Error Leads to Brewers Walk Off in Extras

Helena Independent Record (w/quotes) - Brewers walk off winners with extra-inning hit, error

Helena Boxscore

Before getting too concerned about Helena's poor start to the season, I want to take you back to 2016. Helena won their first three games of the season, five of their first six, and were 6-3 after nine games. The 2016 team would go on to 22 of their remaining 65 games, and finish 18 games under .500. Point being, it's still early folks. And now they have their first winning streak of the season.

Starting with pitching first, reigning Pioneer League player of the week Michael Petersen pitched an outstanding first four innings and seemed to be putting himself into contention for the award again before running into trouble in the fifth. Through 4 innings, Petersen had allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 6. The fifth inning saw him allow a leadoff home run, a single and two walks before giving way to NDFA signee Brandon Texiera. Texiera, to his credit, stranded both of the runners that Petersen left on base upon exit.

Peterson is a big dude without a ton of experience, partly due to being academically ineligible for the 2014 season, so despite the fact that he's 23, he's still a bit of a project. Petersen throws plenty hard, touching the middle 90s, gets some sink due to his arm slot and throws a nice curveball. Command has always been his bugaboo, and he does now have 7 walks in 10 2/3 innings, but it seems he his making progress in that regard.

Texiera would go on to give up two runs of his own in 2 1/3 innings pitched. Parker Bean and Juan Diaz combined on a scoreless final 3 innings, with Diaz getting the win. All in all, the Helena pitchers got 15 groundball outs against just 3 flyball outs.

Helena's bats as group are slowly coming around. Zach Clark, who has walked plenty but hit little this year, notched his first home run, a 3-run job, in the second innings. Dallas Carroll, Jay Feliciano, and Nic Pierre all had two hits apiece, with Feliciano's double being the only other extra base hit. They won, so we'll ignore that the offense struck out 15 times and only walked once.

Their team batting average is still the lowest in the league, at .256. Their team ERA is 5.59, which is actually third-best in eight team league. Their staff has walked the most batters in the league, however.

Helena Game Log

The winning... rally?:

Helena Bottom of the 10th

Pitching Change: Blake Battenfield replaces Tyler Johnson.

Nick Roscetti singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Anthony Villa.

With Dallas Carroll batting, wild pitch by Blake Battenfield, Nick Roscetti to 2nd.

Dallas Carroll singles on a ground ball to second baseman Tate Blackman. Nick Roscetti scores. Throwing error by second baseman Tate Blackman.

Carolina left 24 guys on base.. this team is so frustrating to watch... Good to see Harrison step into this lineup and have continued success.. Isan Diaz has now sat out three straight games... Hopefully, that is an ego check to get his **** straight, especially after he get ejected for the third time this yr on Sunday.. He is still my favorite positional player in the system, but now with Keston Hiura in the system, he has some serious competition for the future 2nd basemen of this franchise. Hiura swing is even more pretty than Diaz.. not alot of swing and miss, unlike Diaz.
