AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast Sun. 6/25: "The Brewers remain in 1st place despite losing 2 of 3 in Atlanta. The club is getting ready for the return of Ryan Braun and Jonathan Villar while claiming catcher Stephen Vogt off waivers from Oakland. The club also sends top prospect Lewis Brinson back to Triple-A for more seasoning. Does this mean the team is starting to make moves based off winning this year? Matt discusses that with BP Milwaukee editor Nicholas Zettel. Braun and Villar both spent the weekend in Appleton playing for the Timber Rattlers. TRats voice Chris Mehring gives his take on how those two look and gives an update on the Brewers prospects playing in the Midwest League."

From the perspective of this Minor League Forum, the Mehring interview begins at the 39:30 minute mark, but certainly enjoy the entire podcast.

Hopefully everyone here is aware of the massive collection of archived Brewers audio maintained in the Major League Forum thread.

Ortiz pitching for the first time since June 8th, followed by Perrin pitching for the first time since May 19th.

How did we not notice Perrin's absence?

Well, we noted it when he landed on the DL, but without any official word or updates since, yes, the days do go by quickly.

Carroll & Diaz will be this years college Helena stars. Loved the Diaz pick & surprised he fell to 29th round. Was on of top catchers in the country. Carroll continues to play like you'd hope & expect as advanced college bat

Nick Ramirez is settling in as a pitcher just fine. Walks were a little high in April and May, but in June has a line of 17.1 IP, 15 H, 1 BB, 12 K. Not surprising, as he was the closer at Cal-Fullerton, and in 2011 put up a line of 25.1 IP, 15 H, 10 BB, 33 K with 16 saves.

It would be tough to be a 2-way player as a starter, but what about as a closer? Might be tough warming up, but if you know you're coming in for the 9th you could run out to the bullpen between innings and warm up during the prior half-inning... as long as your spot in the order doesn't come up.

Extra innings, Braves unkind to Shuckers again on Monday night

Jacob Nottingham was 2-for-5 with a homer on Monday night

By Biloxi Shuckers

IMG_7405_3qh3sgmz_mm7u8ldj.JPG

Jacob Nottingham is batting .340 so far during the month of June with two home runs (Hunter Reed)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

Another day another heartbreaker for the Shuckers. Tonight it happened in the 11th inning when Nick Ramirez gave up a solo homer that ended up being the difference maker in a 4-3 loss. On the bright side Luis Ortiz and Jon Perrin both returned from injuries. Offensively Jacob Nottingham continued his torrid hot streak smacking a homerun in the 1st inning while adding a single later in the game.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Luis Ortiz (3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 5 K) started the game while Jon Perrin (3.1 IP, H, ER, BB, K), Josh Uhen (1.0 IP, K), and Nick Ramirez (3.0 IP, 2 H, ER, HR, 4 K) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Johnny Davis (2-5, SB)

Wendell Rijo (2-5, 2B, RBI)

Jacob Nottingham (1-2, R, 2 RBI, HR)

Biloxi Shuckers Game Log

Another heartbreaker in extras.

Mississippi Top of the 11th

Travis Demeritte strikes out swinging.

Jared James lines out to right fielder Michael Choice.

Kade Scivicque homers (3) on a fly ball to left field.

Jonathan Morales grounds out, second baseman Wendell Rijo to first baseman Dustin DeMuth.

I think you are getting a little too caught up in a grand 14 ABs this year. He couldn't make it past AA as a hitter and was converted to a pitcher. I don't think he will ever be seriously considered as a hitter if he gets to the MLB level.

Jacob Nottingham hitting .340 this month with an OPS around .950. He boosts a pretty respectable line for a catcher overall this year. 22 year old catcher throwing out 43% of runners this year. His defense has made huge strides this year in all aspects. He was a passed ball and error machine last year and both are on pace to dramatically drop. Keeps this up another month and he will be set to rise up my prospects list midseason.

Ho hum just another night of nobody mentioning Nottingham. Who continues to kill it. I guess his season in AA as a 21yr old last year was just to convincing for everyone on what type of player he would be

? Plush mentioned Nottingham's impressive turn around right before you & there has been a good amount of talk about him lately. He's impressive this season outside of slow start. He was very young last season for a catcher at AA. I'm still high on him. Nice to see the power picking back up!

Nottingham and Bubba Derby are both in the news for good reasons tonight...I think some were ready to proclaim that a really terrible trade but it seems as though those two guys would like to let us know that that was a premature conclusion.

Mudcats drop series opener 8-1 at Buies Creek

Max McDowell was 2-for-3 with a RBI in the loss for the Mudcats

By Gregory Young / Carolina Mudcats | June 26, 2017 11:31 PM ET

Max McDowell batting for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Carolina was never really in this game, only managing 4 hits. I meant to mention before that Troy Stokes Jr and Monte Harrison were two of only 15 players in the minor leagues to get both 10+ home runs and 10+ stolen bases in the first half of the season. Marcos Diplan (5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 5 K) threw 97 pitches as he continues to struggle quite a bit this year. Scott Grist (1 1/3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) followed and let the game get out of hand. Brad Kuntz pitched the remaining 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits with one walk and one strike out.

Max McDowell was 2-3 with a walk. He has been hitting better since the All-Star break. Maybe he's found something there. Trent Clark drew 3 walks in 4 at bats, reaching the 50 mark for the season which puts him 2nd in the Carolina League.

Searching for anything positive within, so:

Outfield assists: Belonis (Franco at 3rd base); Segovia (Sieber at 2nd base).

Suppose we could point out it's a 13-game losing streak without the help of Ryan Braun and Jonathan Villar (the team lost one game, then won two, with them in the lineup). Ouch.
