WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Troy Stokes Jr. matched a career high with four hits, Max McDowell was 2-for-3, Frank Lopez earned a victory in his Mudcats debut and Wuilder Rodriguez worked through a four inning save as Carolina won its third straight game 7-4 at Pfitzner Stadium in Potomac on Sunday.

Stokes was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs in Sunday's series finale and scored the first of three Carolina (3-1, 39-33) first inning runs against starter Luis Reyes (5-7, 4.97) and the Nationals (1-3, 34-40). It was the third straight game where there Mudcats had scored at least one run in the first. The victory also clinched a 3-1 series win for the Mudcats in the four game set.

Stokes also singled and scored in the second and had RBI singles in both the sixth and eighth for the Mudcats. Jake Gatewood also drove in run in the first and again in the second and was 1-for-5. Lopez (1-2, 9.60) started for the Mudcats and worked through the fifth with three runs allowed on seven hits and earned the victory in his first start with the Mudcats. The newly signed free agent also struck out three, walked one and allowed 10 hits in his debut..

Rodriguez (S, 2) followed Lopez out of the bullpen and earned the save after holding the Nationals to just one run over the final four innings of Sunday's series finale. Rodriguez struck out four and allowed just one hit and one run in his first appearance back from Double-A Biloxi.

Carolina lead 3-0 after scoring three runs in the first and led 4-0 before the Nationals rallied for two runs in the second. Potomac later scored once more in the fifth to cut the lead down to 4-3, but Carolina answered with a run in sixth, seventh and eighth before the Nationals scored one last run in the ninth.

Reyes took the loss after allowing five earned runs on 10 hits over five and 2/3 innings. He also walked two and struck out one for the Nationals.

Lefty Jordan Mills pitched the end of the sixth and was able to strand a runner on base before allowing a RBI triple to Cooper Hummel in the seventh. He also gave up a RBI single to Stokes in the eighth and finished with two runs allowed on five hits over two innings. Mariano Rivera III pitched the final inning and a 1/3 for Potomac and held the Mudcats scoreless while striking out two.

Jorge Lopez just pitched his second consecutive outing in relief. Hmm.

His command has never been great, and then backed up quite a bit last year. Bullpen was probably most realistic scenario going forward, so I hope the Brewers are committing to that. He certainly has the stuff to be a strong back end bullpen piece.

Final: New Orleans 7, Colorado Springs 1

Very brief team-generated recap on this road game, we'll just copy here --

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox settled for a series split, dropping the Sunday matinee to the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 7-1, in front of 4,214 at the Shrine on Airline.

Colorado Springs broke up the shutout bid in the ninth inning, with Tyler Heineman scoring on a fielder's choice from Brett Phillips with the bases loaded for the outfielder's 47th RBI of the season. Kyle Wren led the Sox offense with two of the team's four total hits from the leadoff position.

Colorado Springs Box Score

The Sky Sox managed a series split at two games apiece, but after having scored exactly a single run in each of the final three games, the men will be glad to had back home tonight. Thank you, PCL schedule-makers for a four-game road trip 1230 miles away :tongue.

RHP Taylor Jungmann's line was enough to be "quality", though it was fringy, only seven baserunners in six innings though; Sky Sox only managed four singles and a walk...

Colorado Springs Game Log

RHP Tom Wilhelmsen's outing was, as they say, less than ideal, and a 3-run deficit became a 6-run gap quickly --

New Orleans Bottom of the 8th

Pitching Change: Tom Wilhelmsen replaces Stephen Kohlscheen, batting 9th.

Tomas Telis singles on a line drive to center fielder Brett Phillips.

Moises Sierra doubles (14) on a line drive to left fielder Kyle Wren. Tomas Telis to 3rd.

Mike Aviles grounds out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Garrett Cooper.

Cal Towey called out on strikes.

Matt Juengel homers (5) on a fly ball to left field. Tomas Telis scores. Moises Sierra scores.

Peter Mooney singles on a ground ball to right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Pitching Change: David Goforth replaces Tom Wilhelmsen, batting 9th.

Odrisamer Despaigne doubles (1) on a line drive to right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Peter Mooney to 3rd.

Chad Hinshaw strikes out swinging.

Final: Wisconsin 3, Kane County 2

You just read all the details, now shift your eyes video-ward, and behold a whole bunch of Jonathan Villar's defensive work --

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "The Papa John's Pizza Postgame Podcast for June 25 has audio from Ryan Braun, Matt Erickson, Braden Webb, Ronnie Gideon, and Cameron Roegner. Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner also discuss the Timber Rattlers 3-2 win over Kane County."

Yeah, you'll want to hear this, and if it's the first time you're sampling the home game, postgame podcast, then you'll likely be back...

Wisconsin Box Score

A tidy 2:29 game time, as everything above would indicate. The teams combined for six hits and six walks.

Third baseman Wes Wilson will come around soon, but he's gone 0-for-13 (one BB, four K's) since coming down from Carolina to get regular at-bats. Catcher Mario Feliciano's recent funk continued, 5-for-41 in his last ten games to drop his average from lofty .300-ish heights to .257.

My bad, the Rattlers have won two in a row and we're supposed to focus on the positive here. Ronnie Gideon's OPS in June is .888, so ther you go!

Wisconsin Game Log

On a side note, was saddened to hear that the Appleton Post-Crescent made staff cuts to begin May, and that's one reason we haven't been seeing the usual quality player profiles we've seen in past years. While the loss of those feature articles is real, it pales by a thousand times in comparison to the life situations for those impacted. Best wishes to those folks and thanks for prior efforts.

Final: Billings 6, Helena 2

Late Runs by Mustangs send Brewers to 5-2 Loss

Runs in 7th, 8th and 9th Too Much for Brewers to Overcome

NOTE to Craig and Garrett -- Photo captions please :); thanks for a nice write-up, though - pretty sure that's starter Harold Chirino

Helena Box Score

Congrats to 10th round RHP Alec Bettinger (University of Virginia) on his pro debut (1-2-3 inning); corner infielder Chad McClanahan the only member of the H-Crew to appear in all seven games; catcher Payton Henry has 22 AB's under his belt, backups Charlie Meyer and Yoel Vasquez have combined for four, so for Henry to start again in the Sunday day game says something about the priority he is at this point -- it's probably a little unnecessary as well for the matinee.

Second baseman Franly Mallen was on base three times (OBP .393 through six games played), but he also committed his third error. Mallen hit three HR's in 179 Helena AB's last year, and pulled his first of the new season here to left-center.

Helena Game Log

The log will provide these Helena details --

Team RISP: 1-for-11.

Team LOB: 10.

AZL Diamondbacks 11, AZL Brewers 3

AZL Brewers Boxscore

The Baby Brewers wound up on the other side of a lopsided loss on Sunday. Besides the pitching issues in the game, the defense committed four more errors, which brings their two game total to 7 errors - that's a lot, even for this league.

The offense pounded out 10 more hits, though they only drew one walk after drawing 15 walks in their first game. Rehabbing Tyrone Taylor notched two more hits, a double and a home run. Keston Hiura had a double, a single, and was hit by a pitch in his second pro game (still DHing), and sports a 1.600 OPS. Nick Egnatuk had his first two pro hits, both singles, after having an 0-3, 3 walk game one. Francisco Thomas, playing second base again, rounded out the multi-hit efforts with a single and a double.

There were two pro debuts on the offensive side. 38th round pick Robie Rojas caught the entire game and went 1-4. NDFA Julian Jarrard was the starting shortstop and took an 0-4. Both of them committed an error as well.

Speaking of pro debuts, there were three of them on the mound. 37th round pick Christian Taugner pitched a scoreless ninth. NDFA Matt Hardy allowed no earned runs over his three inning stint. Fellow NDFA Tyler Thorne was not so lucky, as he gave up three earned runs in two innings of work.

The starting pitcher was young Puerto Rican lefty Wilfred Salaman. After straight dominating his three DSL starts earlier this year, the going was a little tougher in his stateside debut. Salaman gave up six earned runs on eight hits and a walk in three innings pitched, though he did notch his fifth pickoff of the season.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Former #1 prospect home run:
