Isan Diaz was ejected from the game after a scuffle with the catcher. No punches were thrown but both benches cleared. Maybe the catcher was taking exception to Diaz stepping out a lot and then calling for time. Just guessing though.

DSL Phillies White 5, DSL Brewers 4

DSL Brewers Boxscore

First thing, the DSL Reds' second team is called the DSL Rojos - why isn't this Phillies team called the Philly Blancos?

Anyway, the Blancos took the 5-0 advantage through five innings, and a rally by the home team was not quite enough, as the Brewers' squad fell 5-4. The Brewers out-hit the Phillies 11-10, out-walked the Philles 4-1, and played errorless baseball. That usually amounts to a win in this league.

Top prospects Jean Carmona and Pablo Abreu keep, somewhat refreshingly, doing their thing. Carmona's three hits pushed his average to a team high .321 (save for MIA Ernesto Martinez's .667). He also added his sixth walk on the year. Abreu went 1-4 with a walk. Anderson Melendez and Luis Avalo added two hits apiece. Avalo's double was the Brewers' only XBH, and his average is up over .300 as well, to .311.

Ex-restricted lister Jose Luis Romero got his first career start, and allowed four runs over 2 2/3 innings. Guillermo Paulino allowed a run in his 2 1/3 innings. Jeison Medina and Oscar Brito allowed four hits and nothing else over the final 4 innings.

DSL Brewers Game Log

Romero almost got out of this:

DSL Phillies White Top of the 3rd

Julio Francisco singles on a ground ball to second baseman Victor Maria.

With Nicolas Torres batting, Julio Francisco advances to 2nd on a balk.

Nicolas Torres singles on a ground ball to left fielder Francis Florentino. Julio Francisco to 3rd. Nicolas Torres to 2nd on the throw.

Jose Tortolero lines out to second baseman Victor Maria.

Yerwin Trejo pops out to second baseman Victor Maria.

Juan Mendez singles on a ground ball to right fielder Anderson Melendez. Julio Francisco scores. Nicolas Torres scores.

Pitching Change: Guillermo Paulino replaces Jose Romero.

With Alexito Feliz batting, Juan Mendez steals (1) 2nd base.

With Alexito Feliz batting, passed ball by Joel Munoz, Juan Mendez to 3rd.

Alexito Feliz grounds out, shortstop Jean Carmona to first baseman Luis Avalo.

Ponce and Mudcats hold on for 3-2 win

Carolina won its second straight after scoring three in the first in a 3-2 victory in Potomac

By Gregory Young / Carolina Mudcats | June 24, 2017 10:46 PM ET

Cody Ponce pitching for the 2017 Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

The Mudcats led off the game with 4 straight hits leading to all 3 runs they scored in the game. They only managed another 3 hits in the rest of the game. Cody Ponce (6 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) got the start and picked up his 6th win. Brad Kuntz (1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) followed to pick up a hold. Nate Griep struck out the side in the ninth to pick up his 15th save.

Corey Ray was 2-4 with a stolen base. Troy Stokes Jr. was 2-4 with a double. Trent Clark was 1-3 with a double. The Nationals 2 runs came as a result of an error by Monte Harrison. No much extra word on the Isan Diaz incident where he was tossed from the game. Both benches were warned and that seems to be the end of it. Greg Young probably had the right take on it - too many games in a row against the same team.

Carolina Box Score

Carolina Game Log

Carolina Top of the 1st

DSL Cubs 4, DSL Brewers/Indians 1

DSL Brewers Co-Op Boxscore

Three of the four Cubs runs came in off an Indians pitcher, so we can blame this on them. Brewers' pitchers threw 6 1/3 innings of no earned-run, 5 hit baseball. Wilmy De Jesus allowed an unearned run in his 2 1/3 innings, Jefry Tamares worked two near-perfect innings, while Jose Alberro and Melvin Mendez both threw a scoreless inning.

The offense was limited to four singles, one each by Elian Gonzalez, Bryan Torres, Rafael Brito, and Jose Pena. Gonzalez and Torres added a walk each as well, and Torres' average through about 50 PAs is .362. He's also thrown out 39% of attempted base stealers.

DSL Brewers Co-Op Game Log

The co-op squad's lone run was definitely of the DSL variety:

DSL Indians/Brewers Top of the 1st

Elian Gonzalez strikes out swinging, catcher Erick Gonzalez to first baseman Luis Hidalgo.

Edwin Sano grounds out, shortstop Christopher Morel to first baseman Luis Hidalgo.

Bryan Torres walks.

With Cristopher Cespedes batting, wild pitch by Luis Silva, Bryan Torres to 2nd.

With Cristopher Cespedes batting, Bryan Torres steals (1) 3rd base.

With Cristopher Cespedes batting, throwing error by Erick Gonzalez on the pickoff attempt, Bryan Torres scores.

Cristopher Cespedes strikes out swinging.

Johnny Davis collects four hits in loss to Braves on Saturday

Aaron Wilkerson logged another quality start with six innings of one-run baseball

By Biloxi Shuckers

IMG_6830_coq1843x_g2uw2lgn.JPG

Johnny Davis had a season-high four hits on Saturday in the 2-1 loss to the M-Braves (Hunter Reed)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

Typically thirteen hits, four of which by your leadoff hitter, would mean you scored quite a few runs. TOday was not that day for a Shuckers squad that only mustered one run despite the high hit output. On the mound Aaron Wilkerson had a dominant day going six strong while only giving up a single run. The Shuckers ending up losing 1-2 to Mississippi.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) started the game while Josh Uhen (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Matt Ramsey (1.0 IP, 2 K) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Johnny Davis (4-5, SB)

Blake Allemand (2-2, 2B)

Jacob Nottingham (1-2, RBI, 2 BB)

Posted before his 1-for-4 night Saturday, this note from Greg Young should have everyone feeling better about the Mudcats' third baseman:

Lucas Erceg is batting .377/.426/.528 over his last 15 games (20-for-53, 8 R, 5 2B, 1 HR, 13 RBI)

VIDEO TWEET: Game highlights via the Shuckers

Oh man, the first Braves' run in a 2-1 loss was earned, but preventable. LF Clint Coulter really misplayed the ball and let it get by him.

The go-ahead run scored when RHP Josh Uhen entered the game and issued a leadoff walk.

And finally, you'll see the rip-your-heart-out game-ending double play with the bases loaded off the bat of solid ballplayer Dustin DeMuth.

Final: Wisconsin 9, Kane County 5

Biggest Home Crowd of Season Sees a Wisconsin Win

Braun homers, Villar drives in three, and Rattlers end 12-game losing streak

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

6_24_PlayerofTheGameMorrison_3nldpppu_4gmn986f.jpg

From the highly-suggested read of the summary linked above --

Jonathan Villar went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's game. He is 7-for-10 with a walk and six RBI in three games of his rehabilitation assignment. Ryan Braun walked twice and struck out once to go along with his home run in his four plate appearances on Saturday. He is 2-for-4 in two games of his rehab assignments. Both are expected to play on Sunday afternoon for the Rattlers.

Just something about Ryan Braun in a "Star Wars" jersey, Chris Mehring getting to call a Braunie HR as part of his broadcast career, and the kids getting to congratulate Ryan makes this special --

***

Oh, by the way, wow!

***

Speaking of highly-suggested, what Chris and Kyle are doing after every home game is pretty much unprecedented across all of minor league baseball -- again, how lucky are we, hope you've been tuning in, as I am while typing this:

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "The Papa John's Pizza Postgame Podcast is about the Timber Rattlers 9-5 win over the Kane County Cougars on June 24. Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss the win and have comments from Parker Berberet, Trever Morrison, Ryan Aguilar, and Hainley Statia."

Sox Shut Out Cakes

Leadoff home run proves to be the difference

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

From the brief linked write-up, this saves me from summarizing the mound efforts --

Forrest Snow (2-1, 5.06) bounced back from his first Sky Sox start, shutting out the Baby Cakes over five innings in his first Triple-A road start of the season. Tristan Archer and Tom Wilhelmsen held the Cakes through the next three innings, while Rob Scahill (5) earned his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Kyle Wren also walked twice, and an Ivan De Jesus, Jr. single was the only other Sky Sox baserunner...

Helena Box Score

My offseason connection, RHP Andrew Vernon with three perfect frames of relief and four K's, as he's hopefully back in Wisconsin soon; 9th round 3B Dallas Carroll now 9-for-15 with three walks (OBP .684), but oddly still looking for that first extra-base hit; obviously others contributed to their batting lines, so check out the box for a fairly typical Pioneer League experience (OK, so maybe 25 runs is a bit extreme even for this environment).

And yeah, I'm already all-in on 18-year-old switch-hitting shortstop Antonio Pinero, on base here four times and moved to the leadoff spot. Always take notice when the Brewers jump a kid a level at that age, and then place him in a prominent everyday spot -- they see more than the usual something when that happens.

Helena Game Log

Goodness gracious, RHP Braulio Ortiz, who by age and experience should be in Biloxi --

Billings Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: Braulio Ortiz replaces Andrew Vernon.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Pabel Manzanero replaces Andy Sugilio.

Pabel Manzanero walks.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Nadir Ljatifi replaces Leandro Santana.

Nadir Ljatifi walks. Pabel Manzanero to 2nd.

With Morgan Lofstrom batting, passed ball by Charlie Meyer, Pabel Manzanero to 3rd.

Morgan Lofstrom walks. Nadir Ljatifi to 2nd.

Alejo Lopez walks. Pabel Manzanero scores. Nadir Ljatifi to 3rd. Morgan Lofstrom to 2nd.

Carlos Rivero pops out to shortstop Antonio Pinero on the infield fly rule.

Zeke White hit by pitch. Nadir Ljatifi scores. Morgan Lofstrom to 3rd. Alejo Lopez to 2nd.

Pitching Change: Rodrigo Benoit replaces Braulio Ortiz.

Miles Gordon singles on a line drive to right fielder Yerald Martinez. Morgan Lofstrom scores. Alejo Lopez scores. Zeke White to 2nd.

Stuart Fairchild grounds into a double play, third baseman Chad McClanahan to first baseman Gabriel Garcia. Zeke White out at 3rd.

AZL Brewers 16, AZL Cubs 8

AZL Brewers Boxscore

A huge day offensively as the Baby Brewers score 12 runs in innings 6-9 to come back and beat the Baby Backs on Opening Day of the Arizona League season..

The offense came from literally everywhere in the lineup. In addition to the 13 hits, the Brewers drew 15 walks. Strangely enough in a game that featured 24 runs, 26 hits, and 19 walks, there were no hit batters.

First and foremost, first round pick Keston Hiura made his pro debut and it was a good one. After striking out in his first pro plate appearance, Hiura singled the next time up, and then smacked his first pro home run in the 9th inning. He also walked. Stateside debutante Jesus Lujano, playing left field today, paced the offense with three hits (all singles). He walked as well, and drove in a run. 38th round pick Kenny Corey, who replaced rehabbing Tyrone Taylor in the 4th inning, hit a double and a single, and walked twice as well in quite the pro debut himself. However besting even that was non-drafted free agent signee Pat McInerney, who was 2-2, with a double, a home run, and four walks. That would be a 4.000 OPS.

5th round pick Nick Egnatutk and 39th round pick Robert Henry made pro debuts as well, though both went hitless. Egnatuk managed three walks, and Henry one walk. Moises Perez made his stateside debut, and Yeison Coca made his organizational debut after being the PTBNL in the Thornburg trade. Both went 1-5.

Five different Brewers pitchers pitched in today's game, though only two gave up runs. Drake Owenby, who is a member of the active roster in Arizona but would seem to be making a rehab assignment, started and lasted an inning and a third, giving up three hits, two walks, and one earned run. 2016 24th rounder Michael Gonzalez pitched four innings, and got hit the hardest, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits and two walks. He did strike out six. Debuting non-drafted free agents Gabe Friese and Landon Holifield both pitched well in their stints, and 2016 non-drafted free agent Jake Smith pitched a clean inning as well.

AZL Brewers Game Log

Seven run ninth inning including back to back home runs put the game away:

AZL Brewers Top of the 9th

Robert Henry reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Didimo Bracho.

Francisco Thomas walks. Robert Henry to 2nd.

Yeison Coca singles on a bunt ground ball to catcher Jordan McArdle. Robert Henry to 3rd. Francisco Thomas to 2nd.

Kenny Corey walks. Robert Henry scores. Francisco Thomas to 3rd. Yeison Coca to 2nd.

Jesus Lujano singles on a line drive to center fielder Jesus Munoz. Francisco Thomas scores. Yeison Coca to 3rd. Kenny Corey to 2nd.

With Keston Hiura batting, wild pitch by Oliver Polanco, Yeison Coca scores. Kenny Corey to 3rd. Jesus Lujano to 2nd.

Keston Hiura homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Kenny Corey scores. Jesus Lujano scores.

Pat McInerney homers (1) on a fly ball to left field.

Nick Egnatuk walks.

Pitching Change: Cole Bartlett replaces Oliver Polanco.

Moises Perez strikes out swinging.

Robert Henry grounds into a force out, shortstop Jose King to second baseman Jancarlos Cintron. Nick Egnatuk out at 2nd. Robert Henry to 1st.

Francisco Thomas lines out to second baseman Jancarlos Cintron.
