Shane Greene

Detroit is shopping their veterans

Shane Greene has been solid for them this year, pitching in 35 games posting a 2.65 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38K's in 34 innings. He's controllable through 2020. He had his streaks as a starter for a few years, but he's been pretty good since going to the bullpen last year.

He's an injury risk, but what pitcher isn't

I understand why you target him. But unless you overwhelm them, the Tigers will hold onto Greene.

What do you propose in dealing to the Tigers for Greene??

Again, the Brewers should be targeting shorter term bullpen help much like they did in 2011 when the dealt for K-Rod the first time, because otherwise they will need to give up too much in return. With the Brewer payroll as low as it is, taking on short term salary with nothing committed beyond 2018 makes sense. Feliz failed and they need to replace him with more than they have now or hope Hader is that guy in the short term. Adding a veteran who's still capable in high leverage, high intensity games would be a huge plus.

That would be a risky endeavor trying to acquire him. He was pretty bad last year as a reliever and this year he has been good, but not great in a small sample size. Having a lot of control I just have a hard time seeing the Tigers sell low because he lacks any sort of track record. I don't think it would take a whole lot to acquire him, but at the same time I don't see the Tigers accepting a deal at what he is worth right now. If his stats stay near what they are now for the remainder of his control acquiring him now you probably get a steal of a deal. That being said it is quite possible he flops as a pitcher and can't consistently be this dominant.
