Burnes being Burnes. I hate to rank him on the prospect list really high after just one year, but he's just flat out dealing and doing it at AA now. Meanwhile Ray with a double and a walk, but heading into this game had a .719 OPS and a .645 OPS in June (and a 43% K rate in June).

It's not like Ray is super young for the league, he's only a half year younger than league average. It's nice that he hits a lot of line drives, but he's striking out 32% of the time... in A-ball. If Ray were doing this at AA at age 22 I wouldn't be as concerned, but it's A-ball. Pitchers are only going to get better in AA.

Meanwhile, Trent Clark has a .553 OPS in June and is down to .672 on the season. It's nice that he's walking a lot, but a .216 BA isn't going to cut it. Yes, he's young for the league - so send him down a level where he isn't so young.

How soon til we actually start seriously tossing around the idea of Burnes making the jump up to MLB? His domination of the minors is just insane.

4 starts at AA...pump the breaks.

Which is exactly why I asked, 'How soon til we start seriously tossing around the idea,' I did not say 'Burnes should be on the next flight to Milwaukee. '

With that said he's had nothing but success at every level and I would guess looks to be on pace to join the rotation next summer .

It is too soon to even think about throwing around the idea. The rotation has been solid and I don't think that would dramatically change any time soon. Next summer is possible, maybe a long stretch possibility of opening day.

It's not just 4 starts though, it's also what he did at A+. Not to mention last season. I'm not sure I remember a Brewer minor league pitcher having been this dominant for this long consistently. Not sure another 4-8 starts will change that. Think MLB won't happen this year but very well could finish in AAA & then compete next season for job.

Bigger question, is he our #1 pitching prospect?

Didn't both of you just have this conversation last week? Nothing has changed except another week went by.

Apparently you already forgot what Woodruff did last year in AA too while experiencing a family tragedy.

Burnes is an advanced college arm who was a legitimate 2nd Rd talent. At .7 years young in A last year and .8 in A+ this year he should be dominating. It's been 3.5 starts in AA. I get the excitement. I love Burnes and was high on him when selected but let him pitch a dozen games in AA first. He's not leapfrogging Hader (#1 LHP), Ortiz and Woodruff because of what he's done in his first full pro season between A+ and AA when everyone else has more experience and success at the upper levels than he does.

I highly doubt he's pushing for a rotation spot next early next summer considering Hader and Woodruff didn't and our rotation coming in this year had an absurd amount of question marks. Next year's rotation should be better than this year.

lol the debate I think was right before or after promotion but yes recently. I still would have Woodruff above him. Now he has found his command, I love what he brings as a SP. Even with his age close to level, I don't think that means he "should" be dominating the way he is. Considering statistically he has arguably been the most dominant pitcher in milb this season. Not sure many pitchers drafted last year are on his level regardless of age.

I am not as high on Ortiz as others. He is still very young and loved him coming out but he has yet to really come out yet this season yet. Im still nervous about if he will be able to control weight. Think that will be major battle for him before he looks like Colon or Coffey out there. Reports this year have been good on that front.

I do not think Burns has high ace ceiling by any means but kid just knows how to pitch. Has command of all of his pitches, knows how to attack them, is an ultimate competitor, and just has a bulldog approach. Think he is at least Chase Anderson. By season end, Hader and Woodruff may be off prospect list.... Think there should be a good debate between Ortiz and him.

It doesn't get much better than "Sweet 16 with Rick", I could listen daily if they would do it.

Injury updates on RHP's Hiram Burgos (toe) and Tyler Cravy (oblique), within, and interesting comments about the number of scouts on hand as of late to see 1B Garrett Cooper (and apparently, almost exclusively Garrett Cooper), including scouts from Japan. That overseas notion is interesting, as the Brewers own Cooper's rights for 2018 and 2019 still.

Corbin Burnes tosses complete game shutout in game one, Choice hits walk-off homer in game two

The Shuckers mob Michael Choice after his walk-off home run in the eighth inning of game two on Friday.

The Shuckers do their best to detail this wild one in six paragraphs (especially the early innings, as you'll read and then follow in the box score link below), so do give a click to the summary link above as well.

Biloxi Game Two Box Score

RHP Taylor Williams threw 28 pitches, getting just the one out, before being lifted; the real unsung hero here was LHP Nick Ramirez, who stranded three of RHP Bubba Derby's runners and then tossed scoreless ball of his own, ERA now 1.38; RHP Jorge Lopez contributed two scoreless -- with the incessant rainouts of late, hard to follow who's getting in work on their "throw" days and such.

Biloxi Game Two Game Log

This game was 9-8 Braves after two innings -- yeah, you'll want to see how that all came about...
