Rain from Tropical Storm Cindy could alter weekend schedule

With rain from Tropical Storm Cindy pelting south Louisiana the past few days and expected to continue, the New Orleans Baby Cakes are taking precautions for their four-game series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday.

“We've got extra pumps that we've gone out and bought,” general manager Augusto “Cookie” Rojas said. “We've gotten sand to help move air underneath the tarp. Having a tarp in Louisiana, it's difficult to keep it out, especially when it's not raining. You've got to know when to take it on and off.

“The latest report is that the outfield is doing well and the infield is dry. Our goal is to try to play the games coming up this weekend. They promise to be some big nights. We've had some big advance sales. We're going to have some pumps to keep water out of the dugout.”

Seems to be a late start for Carolina. I'm not too far from there and have a very low chance of rain until tomorrow AM. Maybe a communications problem? By the way, Potomac is located in Woodbridge, VA instead of Potomac, MD.

If you were wondering who would be the odd man out in the Carolina outfield - it looks like it's Monte Harrison (at least for today). Jose Cuas is the DH and he hit a 2 run HR in his first at bat. Of course, Ayrault knows him from last year as Cuas spent time in Brevard County with the Manatees.

Gatewood and Cuas hit home runs in 5-3 loss in Potomac

Gatewood hit his tenth home run of the season in Thursday's series opening loss in Potomac

Jake Gatewood batting for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

A solo home run by Jake Gatewood (2-4, 3B, HR) in the 2nd inning and a two run home run by Jose Cuas (1-4) in the 3rd staked Jordan Yamamoto (5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 8 K) to a 3-0 lead. The Nationals got all 3 back in the bottom of the 3rd capped off by a 2 run home run from Taylor Gushue, who now has 13 home runs this year. It came on a 3-0 pitch. The Nationals added 2 in the 5th to provide the final margin.

Kodi Medeiros (3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) is discussed in this thread above. 16 pitches, all strikes, includes 3 K's. How is that possible? Anyway, the effort came to naught when the Mudcats could not produce any more runs. Trent Clark (2-3, BB) also had a positive game. Isan Diaz was 0-4 with 3 K's and has gone totally off the track. Splits by month for Isan:

April: .333/.420/.754

May: .325/.470/.794

June: .290/.148/.438
