The Biloxi matinee in Mobile was postponed by rain.

The best thing we can say about the Sky Sox matinee in Memphis is that it's not an official game yet (as of this post time).

LHP Andrew Barbosa was roasted for five home runs and nine earned runs in 2.2 innings, and Colorado Springs trails 9-1 in the 5th.

C'mon, rain!

We'll fill in the kickoff for this evening's games, including a Wisconsin double dip, late this afternoon.

Sky Sox Swat Two Homers In Loss

Cooper, Garcia hit long balls in second straight loss

Via the official release linked above --

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox launched a pair of home runs Wednesday, but the Memphis Redbirds took game two of the four-game series, 10-4, in front of 5,549 at AutoZone Park.

Garrett Cooper put the Sky Sox (37-26) on the board in the second inning with his 11th home run of the season and third in as many games after hitting a pair of home runs Sunday against Iowa. The first baseman clubbed a solo shot to left field for his 54th RBI of the season, putting him two shy of Andy Wilkins' 56, which marked the team high at the end of the 2016 season.

NOTE: Wow, that is something, it's June 14th!

Rene Garcia added to the offense with the second Sox home run of the game and the catcher's second home run of the season. With Ivan De Jesus on base, Garcia lined a two-run shot to left field after a 40-minute rain delay halted play in the fifth inning. The Sox added one final run in the seventh inning on a fielding error from Memphis first baseman Luke Voit.

The Sox look to prevent Memphis from clinching the series Thursday night at 7:05 PM Central. The last time these two squads faced off in West Tennessee, the Redbirds took the first two games of the four-game series before Colorado Springs secured a series split with two straight wins.

Colorado Springs Box Score

It's worth noting the yeoman work done by Tim Dillard after the Andrew Barbosa mis-fire of a start (noted in the prior post).

12 K's and only one walk from the offense...

Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Cubs2 3

After coughing up the lead in the top half of the eighth inning, the Brewers rallied back for three in the bottom of the eighth to knock off the Cubs by a score of 5-3.

Jean Carlos Carmona reached base in three of his four trips to the plate, going 2-for-3, collecting a single, a triple, and a base on balls. Recent prominent Cuban signing Ernesto Martinez hasn't played a DSL game since 6/7, which was his 2nd pro game.

Could he have possibly been brought to Maryvale? There were reports he had a decent handle on the English language.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "Timber Rattlers Hitting Coach Hainley Statia is the guest for between games of Wednesday's doubleheader. Topics include, the 2017 draft, Ronnie Gideon & Joantgel Segovia, how to change things up for batting practice, and the first half in general."

As you'll read later, it was an ironic night to have the hitting coach interview aired.

Burlington Shuts Out Wisconsin 4-0 in Game One

Wisconsin Boxscore

It what will become a theme for the night, Wisconsin gets shutout on three hits. In this case, Demi Orimoloye had two of them, both singles, though he was also thrown out on the bases for the third time in two games. Nathan Rodriguez had the other hit, a double.

The defense did manage to turn three double plays in the seven inning game.

After a few sharp outings after a few uneven outings, Braden Webb was back to uneven. (As my two year old would say - it's a pattern!). I do think he's pitched better than his 5.32 ERA indicates.

Parker Berberet with his second good outing in a row. Kind of surprised he's still with the Rattlers. Times'a tickin' on his season, which could be his last with the Brewers.

Wisconsin Game Log

This is all Burlington would need:

Burlington Bottom of the 2nd

Jordan Zimmerman walks.

Sam McDonnell singles on a ground ball to right fielder Demi Orimoloye. Jordan Zimmerman to 2nd.

Brennan Morgan strikes out swinging.

Roberto Baldoquin singles on a ground ball to left fielder Joantgel Segovia. Jordan Zimmerman to 3rd. Sam McDonnell to 2nd.

John Schuknecht walks. Jordan Zimmerman scores. Sam McDonnell to 3rd. Roberto Baldoquin to 2nd.

Jeyson Sanchez grounds into a force out, shortstop Gilbert Lara to second baseman Trey York. Sam McDonnell scores. Roberto Baldoquin to 3rd. John Schuknecht out at 2nd. Jeyson Sanchez to 1st.

Jahmai Jones flies out to center fielder Ryan Aguilar.

Burlington Shuts Out Wisconsin 4-0 in Game Two, Too

Bees hold Rattlers to three hits in second game of twinbill, too

Wisconsin Boxscore

Like my two year old would say - it's a pattern!

The Rattlers get shut out 4-0 again, on three hits again. One player (Joantgel Segovia this time) had two of the hits again. The eight-hole hitter had the other hit again.

Starting pitcher Cameron Roegner fared better than Braden Webb, allowing two earned runs and only six baserunners in five innings of work, with four punch outs and no walks. Roegner's ERA has dropped six appearances in a row, from 6.93 on 5/13 to 4.82 now. Luke Barker allowed an unearned run in his inning of work. He hasn't allowed an earned run in seven straight appearances, spanning 12 1/3 innings.

Wisconsin Game Log

All Burlington would need, again:

Burlington Bottom of the 3rd

Derek Jenkins singles on a ground ball to second baseman Tucker Neuhaus.

Juan Moreno grounds out, third baseman Jose Cuas to first baseman Ronnie Gideon. Derek Jenkins to 2nd.

Jahmai Jones homers (5) on a line drive to right field. Derek Jenkins scores.

Keith Grieshaber doubles (5) on a ground ball to left fielder Joantgel Segovia.

With Jordan Zimmerman batting, passed ball by A. Murray, Keith Grieshaber to 3rd.

Jordan Zimmerman flies into a double play, right fielder Caleb Whalen to catcher A. Murray. Keith Grieshaber out at home.

Final: DSL Pirates 6, DSL Indians/Brewers 3

The Pirates scored four runs in the fifth inning to lead them past the Indians/Brewers by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday.

DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

Second baseman Luis Avila had a single and a double from the leadoff spot, extending his hitting streak to three games. 18-year-old outfielder Jose Pena also had a pair of hits and drove in two of the three runs scored. Edwin Sano, playing first base in this one, chipped in a double while catcher Bryan Torres added the only other Brewers base hit. Jefry Tamares worked 1.2 innings of relief, and was responsible for a good chunk of the damage, allowing both inherited runners to score while also giving up two runs of his own (though one was unearned). Wily DeJesus worked the final two frames, allowing two runs, which actually dropped his ERA to 10.57 for the season.
