2017 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 6-20

Perfect Game report from September 2016 on 20th rounder Austin Rubick:

---

20. Austin Rubick, rhp, Ventura (Ventura College/SO in 2017)

The highly touted Rubick struggled in both his freshman year at Arizona and this summer with the Halos. Despite the choppy results, there is no denying the arm talent that motivated the Indians to take him in the 27th round of the 2015 draft. Rubick has the ideal pitcher's build at 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds and his fastball works in the low-90s. Rubick has transferred to Ventura College for his sophomore year and this might be the perfect environment for him to begin to harness his big arm.

So I feel there is little doubt that we sign all 10 of our first picks.

Now 11-19 who as we know are all high schoolers, who do you think we will be able to lock up?

I'm confident in

Ward

Layer

75% to me

Lazar

Santana

Castillio

50/50

Bullock

Workman

25% or less

L. Smith

0%

Campbell

In the end we end up with

Lazor, Ward, Layer, Santana, and Castillio

Think Bullock, Workman, and Smith head off to school. Bullock could be an impact two way player at NC State and build up his stock. Smith seems like he is an Oklahoma boy whose going to be a Sooner. Workman is the hardest for me to decide on.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

I'd really like to see them get Workman signed in addition to that group. It will be interesting to see how those higher picks come out with regard to the bonuses.
but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Full Circle SM‏ @FullCircleSM 19m19 minutes ago

We would like to welcome former @Chipola_BSB RHP and 2017 @Brewers #MLBDraft pick @Bowdenpoint0 to the @FullCircleSM family.

Bowden Francis has signed with an agent, and will sign with the Brewers shortly. The picture with the tweet has him wearing Brewer gear as well.

Well, between the lower 20 draft picks and the UDFA signings they will certainly have enough organizational filler. I wish we'd hear more on the earlier draft picks but I'm getting the sense we won't see too many of those guys sign.

Doesn't matter if he won ACC DPOY or GG because "some scouts" say he's not good defensively due to being a tiny human being and not having speed (yet the general consensus is he has excellent instincts, but apparently that's ultimately irrelevant for their final opinion. Quickness is never mentioned by those folks either - just speed - as if they're one in the same). Don't pay attention to the fact that almost 99% of the balls he touches a play is made. Fielding/throwing with accuracy isn't related to playing defense, right?

Can't find the video of it but TCU CF/RF leadoff hitter Wade (Indians 5th rd pick) led off Bot 8 last night hitting a bullet one hopper to the backside of Hairston (shading up middle) and he made a fully stretched diving play throwing him out by a full step. That's with an arm that isn't 100% yet either. Just another example of him not being a good defender.
