Colorado Springs Box Score

Taylor Jungmann and Kirk Nieuwenhuis grabbed the headlines above and you wouldn't realize it from the game summary, but Ryan Cordell (playing CF), was 4-for-5 with two RBI and fell a home run shy of a cycle, as he says "Don't Forget About Me" amidst the call-up parade.

Still plenty of talent here, folks!

Jungmann walked four, but seemed to come out of his first 2017 home start in the Springs psychologically sound...

Lopez returns to form, but Shuckers fall to Shrimp on Saturday

Jorge Lopez struck out 10 Jacksonville batters over 7.0 innings

By Biloxi Shuckers

Lopez_thumb2_0qwnmbuo_7vrglkwk.jpg

Jorge Lopez logged a season-high 7.0 innings on Saturday night and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts (Hunter Reed)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

After two innings it looked like the another hideous start was on its way from Jorge Lopez, but Lopez kept his composure to go seven strong innings giving up only two runs while striking out 10 Jumbo Shrimp. Unfortunately the offense only mustered two runs on six hits. None of which were of the extra base variety and no player had multiple hits. In the end the Shuckers lost 5-2.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Jorge Lopez (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K) provided the relief.

Hitting Summary:

Michael Choice (1-4, 2 R)

Clint Coulter (1-3, RBI, BB)

Dustin Houle (1-4, RBI)

Couple takeaways from the Shuckers game:

-Jorge Lopez finally had a good start. Lopez had a strong start to his AA season, but absolutely tanked his last 6 or so games. Hopefully it is a sign of something a bit better.

-Mauricio Dubon commited his 12th error of the season. In 48 games at SS he has commited 11 of those. Calculate over 150 games and.....yikes. On the bright side in his 109 innings at 2B he has only commited 1 error.

-In my short stint of link reports I have wanted to feature a three strikeout inning and Jorge Lopez finally came through. To finish his night of all times. So thanks Lopez!

Since getting "sent" to Helena and recalled, Lara has 8 hits in his last 5 games.

After a hot start, Orimoloye is now sitting at a .691 OPS with a .281 OBP.

Way-too-early leader for org player of the month: Ronnie Gideon has a 1.233 OPS so far in the month of June.

Fun fact: Kyle Wren has the same OBP as Lewis Brinson.

Fun fact #2: Ryan Cordell hit for the cycle today. Not in the same game, but CS only batted 13 innings in the double-header. Cordell had a nice day: 6-9, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR.

Gatewood homers twice in 3-2 loss in Myrtle Beach

Gatewood went 3-for-4 with two home runs on Saturday

By Gregory Young / Carolina Mudcats | June 10, 2017 11:02 PM ET

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/3/2/231792332/cuts/16x9_JakeGatewood_lyjdpd82_7w2brkn4.jpg

Jake Gatewood batting for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Comments on this game were made above in this thread. In the 4th inning, with a man on 2nd, there was a single to center and Corey Ray overthrew the cutoff man allowing the hitter to go to second. He eventually scored and, arguably, would not have done so if he had just been held to first on the single. The Mudcats have made this mistake over and over and it never seems to get corrected. In a one run game, that's the difference (end of rant).

Cody Ponce (6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K) took 99 pitches to get through his 6 innings. He has not been particularly sharp the last 3 or so outings and this was another one of those. He had a 6-1 ground out to flyout stat. Eric Hanhold worked 2 scoreless innings in relief.

Jake Gatewood (3-4, 2 HR) had 3 of the Mudcats' 5 hits. Lucas Erceg contributed a double. Myrtle Beach has surged into first in the standings mainly on hot pitching and that has continued in this series so the Mudcats aren't the only team struggling to hit Pelicans' pitching.

Carolina Box Score

Carolina Game Log

Myrtle Beach Bottom of the 4th

Daniel Spingola doubles (15) on a line drive to right fielder Carlos Belonis.

Eddy Martinez singles on a line drive to center fielder Corey Ray. Daniel Spingola scores. Eddy Martinez to 2nd on the throw.

Jesse Hodges hits a sacrifice bunt. Eddy Martinez to 3rd. Jesse Hodges to 1st.

Tyler Alamo strikes out swinging.

Trent Giambrone strikes out swinging.

Robert Garcia singles on a ground ball to right fielder Carlos Belonis. Eddy Martinez scores. Jesse Hodges to 3rd.

With Andruw Monasterio batting, Robert Garcia caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Max McDowell to shortstop Luis Aviles.
