I really wish Ortiz didn't remind me of this guy:

You'd think in 2017 an athlete would take better care of themselves

Short of that, I'd think the Brewers would have a full time nutritionist to make sure they have all the healthy food and education possible.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin in a rain delay, but Ronnie Gideon has homered and doubled... and in his last ten games prior to this, he's posted an OPS of .989.

I recall reading he had hardly played in college. I wonder if he needs to adjust to being a full-time player.

Final: DSL Cubs1 6, DSL Indians/Brewers 5

The Brewers co-op team tried to mount a late rally, putting up two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, but came up just short as they were edged by the Cubs 6-5.

DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

Antonio Perez, who spent last season playing outfield, but is currently listed as a pitcher, got the start at first base and wound up going 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Designated hitter Yorki Franco had the only other hit among Brewers batters, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. 20-year-old righty Daniel Acosta got roughed up in an inning of relief, allowing three runs on four hits. Melvin Mendez and Juan Gomez each worked two scoreless frames of relief.

DSL Indians/Brewers Game Log

The Brewers had a chance with the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the eighth but couldn't quite complete the comeback.

Final: DSL Phillies White 3, DSL Brewers 1

The Brewers offense managed just one run on three hits as they dropped a low-scoring contest to the Phillies by a score of 3-1.

DSL Brewers Box Score

Six-four right-hander Victor Vasquez got the start in his Brewers debut and worked four innings, allowing just one unearned run. Jose Parra followed and was tagged with the loss after allowing a pair of runs in four innings of relief. CF Pablo Abreu, LF Francis Florentino and 3B Jean Cruz each contributed a single for the only Brewers hits in this one. RF Bryan Connell reached base three times, drawing a pair of walks and getting hit by a pitch. He stayed in the game after getting hit in the fifth inning and had another plate appearance in the seventh where he walked and then was picked off. He was lifted in the bottom half of the seventh. Don't know if it was injury related or something else but we'll see if he's back in the lineup tomorrow. Designated hitter Kelvin Pacheco, who signed with the Nationals last July 2nd but never played a game for them, made his pro debut with the Brewers today and went 0-for-3 with a stolen base.

DSL Brewers Game Log

DSL Brewers Top of the 7th

Kelvin Pacheco strikes out swinging.

With Roberto Molina batting, Carlos Salazar picks off Bryan Connell at 2nd on throw to Jose Tortolero.

Ray & Stokes go back-to-back in 9-3 loss

The Mudcats lost a 3-1 lead in the sixth in a loss to the Pelicans

By Carolina Mudcats | June 8, 2017 11:23 PM ET

(NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Another late inning meltdown, of the kind there have been too many of this year, resulted in the Mudcats falling further behind in the first half race with only 10 games remaining. Freddie Peralta (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) got the start but could only go 5 innings with a pitch count up to 95. Quintin Torres-Costa gave up 4 runs in 2/3 innings to take the loss. The problems started when Max McDowell dropped a routine pop up behind the plate, trying to make a basket catch. That hitter then singled and scored. That was followed by a hit batsman and a throwing error on a comebacker to Torres-Costa. Later Torres-Costa gave up a 3 run home run. Conor Harber pitched the final 2 1/3 innings. He gave up another 4 runs, 2 earned.

The Mudcats sole offensive output came in the 3rd when Corey Ray (1-5, HR, 4 K's) hit a 2 run home run. The next batter, Troy Stokes Jr. (1-4, HR, 2 K's) hit a solo home run to center field. The Pelicans announcer said that that was the first home run to that portion of the field this year. Trent Clark was 0-1 with 3 walks. The Mudcats struck out 17 times in this game.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Brandon Woodruff's outing was bad. Tyler Cravy's was even worse.

Make what you will of the context of all the crooked offensive numbers.

Colorado Springs Game Log

Teams combined for 31 hits and 16 walks in a tidy three hours, 57 minutes.

But hey, perfect defense all around!

Seems like a good time to check in on Toledo, where we're hoping for two more years of ineptness to finally push the teetering ownership group to follow up on the hinted-at bail out on the decades-old relationship. Here's your International League standings.

Wisconsin Wins 8-3 over Quad Cities

Harrison & Gideon homer for Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

Wisconsin wins for the 2nd time in 11 games. I tuned out after the 5th inning, fully expecting bad news in the morning, but the good guys more than held on this time.

Every Rattler save for Demi Orimoloye had at least one hit. Having paid as little attention as possible to the team lately, I had not noticed Demi's average has gotten all the way down to .216. OPS is still hovering around 700, though. Monte Harrison, Jose Cuas, a suddenly resurgent Ronnie Gideon, and Nathan Rodriguez all had two hits. Gideon hit his fourth home run, all of which have come in the past nine games. Monte Harrison launched his ninth, and first since May 25th. Gideon also added a double, and Harrison a triple.

Thanks to Cuas' and Rodriguez' big-ish days, the lineup featured only one player hitting under .200 by game's end. Sorry, Gilbert.

Jordan Desguin and Parker Berberet combined to pitch well, and both stopped a string of not-so-great or worse outings.

Wisconsin Game Log

The dagger:

Wisconsin Bottom of the 5th

Pitching Change: Kevin Hill replaces Dustin Hunt.

Monte Harrison triples (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Daz Cameron.

Tucker Neuhaus doubles (19) on a line drive to right fielder Ronnie Dawson. Monte Harrison scores.

Jose Cuas pops out to shortstop Jonathan Arauz.

With Ronnie Gideon batting, wild pitch by Kevin Hill, Tucker Neuhaus to 3rd.

Ronnie Gideon doubles (11) on a line drive to left fielder Yordan Alvarez. Tucker Neuhaus scores.

Nathan Rodriguez singles on a ground ball to pitcher Kevin Hill. Ronnie Gideon scores. Nathan Rodriguez to 2nd. Throwing error by pitcher Kevin Hill.

Gilbert Lara grounds out to first baseman Taylor Jones. Nathan Rodriguez to 3rd.

Demi Orimoloye flies out to center fielder Daz Cameron.

Co. Springs needs some pitching relief...bullpen taxed and throwing guys 3 times in 4 days is just wrong. Looking for some arm injuries to start popping up soon.

MLB pen arms throw 3x in 4 game spans. No, it's not wrong. When that happens they'll get 2 or 3 nights off depending who they are. Arm issues don't arise as a result of this unless it happens over a very extended part of a season. Espino missing his start didn't help but that's a negative of being the AAA team. When the MLB team needs a rotation arm you're out of luck and you make it work. There might not always be a AA arm that can come up to start at that point in time because then the AA team runs into the same issue of using the pen guys and it becomes a domino effect. I'm sure Stearns and the coaching staffs know much more about how to handle the roster situation in times like these
