Final: DSL DBacks2 8, DSL Brewers 2

The Brewer scored two runs in the top of the first, but it was all downhill from there. The Diamondbacks put up single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, then tacked on four in the bottom of the sixth to drop the Brewers to 1-2 on the young season.

DSL Brewers Box Score

20-year-old righty Freisis Adames, who put together a solid season out of the bullpen last year, got his first pro start and was tagged with the loss after going five innings and giving up four runs (two earned). 6'5" 21-year-old Oscar Brito, another former Blue Jays farmhand, made his Brewers debut, going 2.1 innings and giving up one run. Pablo Abreu was on base four times, going 2-for-3 with a walk while also reaching via catcher interference. Outfielder Francis Florentino doubled, walked and drove in both runs with first baseman Aaron Familia adding a single and a walk. Ernesto Martinez, Jr. made his pro debut as a pinch-hitter in the top of the ninth and drew a walk in his lone plate appearance.

DSL Brewers Game Log

You'll always find interesting ways of scoring runs in these DSL games. Catcher interference, followed by a HBP, followed by a two-run double accounted for the only Brewers runs.

Final: DSL Dodgers2 19, DSL Indians/Brewers 7

The Dodgers plated nine runs in the second inning, sending 13 men to the plate, and that proved to be more than enough as they romped over the Indians/Brewers 19-7. The co-op pitching staff issued 12 walks while the defense committed six errors, so there was plenty of blame to go around.

DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

Bryan Dimas, a 17-year-old switch-hitting outfielder from Panama, recorded three hits in five trips to the plate. Designated hitter Luis Avila contributed two hits from the leadoff spot while catcher Ismael Rosado singled, walked and scored a pair of runs in his first game in the Brewers organization. Rafael Brito pulled double duty, starting the game at third base, going 1-for-5, then working a scoreless ninth inning of relief on the mound after the game was out of hand. Venezuelan left-hander Luis Cordero got the starting nod and was charged with the loss after giving up seven runs in an inning plus. He cruised through the first inning, but the wheels fell off for him in the second as he worked to eight batters without recording an out. Juan Gomez made his debut in relief, working a third of an inning while infielder Javier Castillo came on to pitch 1.1 innings out of the bullpen, giving up one run.

Angel Ventura quietly having a very good season. The strikeouts aren't there, but he's had some bad defense behind him too. I wonder if he learned a new weak-contact pitch, such as a cutter. In his last four starts he's 25.1 IP, 17 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 16 K.

Trent Clark just picked up his league leading 9th OF assist according to Greg Young

Interesting as his arm was never regarded as that impressive. His defense leaves a lot to be desired from the eye test though.

That would be huge if he keeps pitching like this. Another SP prospect almost out of the blue on the doorstep.

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers appeared to be heading to their second straight win with a 5-3 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning against the Quad Cities River Bandits Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. But, the Bandits had other ideas as they scored three runs in the top of the ninth and beat the Rattlers 6-5.

Quad Cities (29-27) went in front with a run in the first inning. Rattlers starting pitcher Victor Diaz hit Daz Cameron with the first pitch of the game and threw a wild pitch to allow Cameron to take second. Yordan Alvarez smacked a single up the middle with one out to drive in Cameron for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (24-31) took the lead in the bottom of the second. Ryan Aguilar reached on an error to start the inning. Ronnie Gideon followed with a double to right to send Aguilar home with the tying run. Later in the second, Lara knocked in Gideon from third and the Rattlers were up 2-1.

The River Bandits went back into the lead with two runs off Wisconsin reliever Zack Brown in the top of the fourth inning. The first three batters in the inning singled to load the bases. Brown struck out the next batter, but gave up a two-run single to Taylor Jones and the Rattlers were down 3-2. Brown would allow another hit to reload the bases, but escaped without allowing another run.

The Rattlers responded to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth. River Bandits starting pitcher Yohan Ramirez walked the first two batters he faced and hit Gideon to load the bases. Ramirez got the first out of the inning, but could not hold the Rattlers off the scoreboard in the inning. Lara lined a single to right to score two runs and the Rattlers were up 4-3.

A dropped flyball with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed Wisconsin to add an insurance run for a 5-3 advantage.

The score remained 5-3 until the top of the ninth. Andrew Vernon, who retired the River Bandits in order in the top of the eighth inning, gave up back-to-back singles to Cameron and Osvaldo Duarte in the ninth to put runners on the corners. Alvarez was next and he singled to send Cameron home and Duarte around to third. Chuckie Robinson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right to get Duarte home with the tying run.

Vernon walked the next batter to move Alvarez into scoring position with the go-ahead run. Then, Carmen Benedetti delivered a single to right-center and Alvarez scored to give the Bandits a 6-5 lead.

Joantgel Segovia singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth and Tucker Neuhaus singled with two outs, but they both were stranded when the final out was recorded.

Mudcats slug their way to doubleheader sweep

Carolina totaled six extra-base hits over both games of Tuesday's twin bill

(NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats)

Carlos Rodon started the game for the Dash on a rehab assignment for the White Sox. He struck out the side in the 1st inning on just 10 pitches. He had 8 in a row when Isan Diaz stepped out on him which seemed to irritate him a little bit. He then overthrew the next pitch which missed high. Diaz struck out on the 10th pitch though. Rodon also struck out the side in the 2nd inning but in between those K's was a single by Jake Gatewood, double off the center field fence by Lucas Erceg and a home run by Luis Aviles. The Mudcats went on to score 5 runs off Rodon. Trey Supak (5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K) got the start for the Mudcats and had some control issues, especially early in the game. He would get the win. The home run he gave up was of the inside-the-park variety when Troy Stokes leaped at the wall and couldn't recover in time. Brad Kuntz finished off the final two innings.

Gatwood ended up 1-3 in the opener. Erceg was 2-3 and Aviles 1-3. Weston Wilson ended up 2-3 with two long doubles to the gap in right center. Trent Clark's assist discussed in this thread came when a runner was going with the pitch and a fly was hit to Clark. He threw to first before the runner could return to the base.

Wuilder Rodriguez pitched a one-two-three 6th and lowered his ERA to 1.35. Nate Griep worked the 7th inning and, despite 2 walks, posted his 12th save of the season.

Lucas Erceg had a 3 run home run in the 1st for the Mudcats off Dash starter Dane Dunning. The winning run scored when Carlos Belonis reached first on a throwing error, went to second on a Trent Clark sacrifice bunt and scored from second on a wild pitch when the catcher could not locate the ball.

Trent Clark just picked up his league leading 9th OF assist according to Greg Young

Interesting as his arm was never regarded as that impressive. His defense leaves a lot to be desired from the eye test though.

He probably isn't highly regarded so people aren't fearing his arm. Thus, giving him more opportunities. OF assists are a lot like RBIs. You still need to deliver, but its also heavily driven by the opportunities given to you.

Nice to see Lara going 3-4. Hopefully the "demotion" was enough to wake him up?

That came to mind, but dang....9? He has 16 in his career that only spans 120 games. There must be something there more than opportunities. Accurate arm? I don't watch enough of Clark to really see that many throw attempts to get people out.

Might be interesting if there is an opportunity stat for throwing out baserunners. Certainly, LFers will get more than RF because of guys going from 1st to 3rd on a play, in addition to runners going home.

Or it might be that the scouting reports are wrong and he has a good arm and people will stop running on him soon.
