Mudcats win series opener in thrilling fashion

A relay throw from Luis Aviles cut down the tying run at the plate for the 3rd and final out to preserve the victory for the Mudcats. The debut of Trey Supak (4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) did not go well. He took 85 pitches to make it through 4 innings. Quintin Torres-Costa (3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K) was also a bit shaky at first as he walked 2 of the first 4 batters he faced, both of whom scored. He then ran off 7 straight outs and ended up with his 5th win of the year. Jon Olczak (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K) worked the 8th for his second "hold" of the year. Nate Griep picked up his 10th save by recording the last out on the Aviles relay throw.

Troy Stokes Jr. (1-2, HR, 3 BB, 2 R, 3 RBI) led the Mudcats' offense today. Isan Diaz (1-5, HR) hit his 9th home run of the year. Jake Gatewood (4-5, 2 2B) had a big game. As mentioned above in this thread, he now has 20 doubles at the end of May.

Luis Aviles was 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Trent Clark was 0-2 but reached 3 times on walks (in consecutive innings) and one of the outs was a long fly to the warning track in left. Weston Wilson, making a bid for 3TO status, walked twice and struck out 3 times.

Wisconsin Boxscore

More decent offensive output for Wisconsin, but more poor pitching as well and the Rattlers lose their fourth in a row to move to a season-low four games under .500. The team ERA now sits at 5.02, worst in the Midwest League. The lease average ERA is 3.87.

The Rattlers also have the worst batting average in the Midwest League, at .221, and next to worst team OPS too. It's actually pretty amazing that the team is only four games under .500.

Wisconsin Game Log

Despite a good outing last time on the bump, Zack Brown's uneven season continued, and this was how he was greeted:

I was hoping that was going to happen for my sake. Quite convenient.
