Happy 23rd Birthday, Maverick Phillips!

http://www.milb.com/images/621433/t551/180x270/621433.jpg

Encouraging items about Phillips:

- He is hitting .312 at home, and .309 on the road. OPS is 1.056 at home vs .942 on the road. So his performance has not been just a Colorado Springs thin air bump. He's been pretty consistent no matter where he has played.

- He's hitting .310 vs a PCL average of .272.

- He's got 20 walks - with a walk rate of 11.1%

Not saying Phillips is going to be a star or anything - just nice to see the solid numbers being put up. He still strikes out too much (30% K rate), and his BABIP is really high (.406). I'm holding out hope he can be a productive major leaguer.

Angel Ortega hit his fourth home run on Tuesday night at MGM Park (BENTON REED)

Biloxi Shuckers Box Score

Quick Summary:

It was another troubling start for Jorge Lopez who had a rough first inning giving up 3 runs. On the bright side he settled in to put up 4 scoreless after the hiccup in the 1st. Art Charles and Mauricio Dubon both had multi-hit games while Angel Ortega hit a dinger for a quiet Shuckers offense. The Shuckers lost the game 7-3.

Pitching Summary:

On the mound, Jorge Lopez (5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) started the game while Bubba Derby ( 4 IP, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) took care of the rest in a piggyback style game.

Hitting Summary:

Mauricio Dubon (2-4, SB)

Angel Ortega (1-4, HR, 2 RBI)

Wisconsin Boxscore

The Rattlers scored in five different innings but couldn't quite come back from six runs given up early in the game. Six Rattlers had one hit, and Joantgel Segovia lead the way with two hits. The team did draw eight walks, including three from Jose Cuas, which as noted in the article above, lead to 13 runners stranded. Happens when you go 0-14 with runners in scoring position. Ouch.

Starter David Burkhalter allowed most of the damage, by giving up five runs in three innings of work. Nattino Diplan allowed one run in his four innings - it's the first time in eight games he's allowed fewer than two runs in an outing. Jordan Desguin struck out the side in his lone inning and return from the disabled list.

Wisconsin Game Log

The night in a nutshell, down one by one:

Wisconsin Top of the 9th

Ryan Aguilar walks.

Jose Cuas walks. Ryan Aguilar to 2nd.

Trever Morrison out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Jose Martinez to second baseman J. R. Davis. Ryan Aguilar to 3rd. Jose Cuas to 2nd.

Caleb Whalen called out on strikes.

Demi Orimoloye called out on strikes.

By Robby Veronesi / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

The Sky Sox (29-20) cracked the scoreboard first in the second inning off starter Joel Seddon. Yadiel Rivera lined the second straight single of the inning up the middle, easily scoring Nate Orf for the shortstop's 20th RBI of the season.
