As also posted in the Sky Sox feature article thread for archiving purposes --

Outfielder Ryan Cordell supplies spark for Sky Sox

Brent Briggeman, Colorado Springs Gazette

Asked who might most closely compare to Ryan Cordell, the mind of Rick Sweet churned through its 40-plus years of baseball experience to find the most fitting examples.

He settled on Jason Bay and Jay Bruce.

Rest of the feature article at the link above...

He's now exclusively an outfielder

Actually no, Cordell started his 9th game at third base Friday night.

Rattlers Start Series at Clinton with 7-4 Win

Wisconsin Boxscore

The on-again-off-again Wisconsin lineup was back on again tonight, mashing out 7 runs in the first four innings and then cruising to a 7-4 win. Tucker Neuhaus, Caleb Whalen, and Joangtel Segovia each had two hits. Both of Neuhaus' hits were doubles as part of a 3 RBI night. Segovia added a double as well. Ronnie Gideon, who hit 17 home runs in 59 games last year, hit his first home run of the year tonight, in his 35th game as a Rattler.

Zack Brown made his best start as a pro, working six innings of two-run ball. He walked none and struck out six. When Brown is on, he's getting grounders, and get grounders he did tonight to the tune of nine ground outs to one air out. He's pitched a bit better than his 5.21 ERA indicates, at least from what I've seen. Aaron Myers picked up the three inning save, though he did make things a little interesting in the ninth.

Wisconsin Game Log

Pitching Change: Jack Anderson replaces Nick Wells.

Ronnie Gideon strikes out swinging.

Nathan Rodriguez grounds out to pitcher Jack Anderson. Tucker Neuhaus scores. Demi Orimoloye to 3rd. Jose Cuas to 2nd.

Burnes goes to 5-0; Mudcats win 5-3 vs. Pelicans

Corey Ray was 2-for-4 with a lead off home run on Friday night

By Carolina Mudcats | May 26, 2017 11:11 PM ET

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/8/6/230600086/cuts/16x9_Burnes3_kxjnjjqz_bwm0a01f.jpg

Corbin Burnes (6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 HBP, 6 K) got the start and the win. He struggled a bit with command at times today, especially in the 3rd inning when he walked one and hit 2 batters. He did not allow another runner after that though. Eric Hanhold (2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) worked the 7th and 8th. The two runs he gave up were after back-to-back errors by Isan Diaz and Lucas Erceg. Nate Griep came in for the save. With two out in the 9th, Jesse Hodges got on board with a swinging bunt and the Pelicans then pinch hit the Cubs' top prospect Eloy Jiminez, who sat out the rest of the game. Jiminez walked on a close pitch but Griep then retired the next hitter on a ground ball to end the game. Griep leads the Carolina League in saves with 8.

The surging Corey Ray (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) led off the game for the Mudcats with a towering home run. Weston Wilson (2-3, RBI) had the other multi-hit game for the Mudcats. He also took an elbow to the face from Pelicans' right fielder Eddy Martinez when a throw to first was off line. He stayed in the game after lying on the ground for a few seconds. Lucas Erceg, Trent Clark and Isan Diaz all had a double in the game. Luis Aviles added to his league leading stolen base total to get his 14th of the year.

Carolina Box Score

Carolina Game Log

This inning gave the Mudcats the lead for good (I couldn't believe how shallow they were playing Trent Clark):

Carolina Bottom of the 2nd

Lucas Erceg doubles (8) on a line drive to center fielder Robert Garcia.

Trent Clark doubles (5) on a fly ball to right fielder Eddy Martinez. Lucas Erceg scores. Trent Clark to 3rd on the throw.

Luis Aviles grounds out, shortstop Andruw Monasterio to first baseman Adonis Paula.

Max McDowell flies out to center fielder Robert Garcia.

Weston Wilson singles on a line drive to right fielder Eddy Martinez. Trent Clark scores.

With Corey Ray batting, wild pitch by Ryan Kellogg, Weston Wilson to 2nd.

Corey Ray grounds out, shortstop Andruw Monasterio to first baseman Adonis Paula.

There is certainly no truth to the rumor that the Pelicans are planning to change their name to the "Chickens" in order to bring Myrtle Beach into compliance with the parent club's rainout policy.

From the Clinton Herald game story --

CLINTON — Nick Wells tried to get back on the success train, but his misfortune in two-plus innings didn’t allow that to happen.

Wells allowed four earned runs and was pulled in the third inning after allowing a couple of baserunners in Clinton’s 7-4 loss to Wisconsin on Friday at Ashford University Field.

He allowed six hits, with three coming in the third inning. Tucker Neuhaus was a pain in his side, too.

Neuhaus doubled to right field in each of his at-bats against Wells. Neuhaus is 5-for-16 with six RBIs this year at AU Field. He doubled his RBI total in Friday’s win. He’s gotten five RBIs in his past 33 at-bats.

“I’ve had a pretty good track record here,” Neuhaus said. “Both situations were RBI situations, so I was looking for something elevated I could drive and not swing at the pitch that he wanted me to. I got what I was looking for, which was something up in the zone.”

Clinton reliever Jack Anderson allowed only one unearned run in four innings, included the Herald photo just for the sweet submariner / sidewinder shot.
