Link Report for Wednesday 5/24

Think you still need a AAA club for development. Such a difference in pitcher and hitters. All those crafty vet AAAA guys & MLB flameouts are an important step in development. A lot of things you can get away with in AA that won't fly in AAA & more so the majors. Few guys can handle that jump from AA to MLB unless they are "professional hitters" and crafty/polished pitchers. Just being a great arm stops stops flying a little bit once you hit AAA. Need to really understand more of the craft.

Way I have always viewed it

AA is the natural talent level

AAA is the more professional/craft level

That could just be me though

Final: Tennessee 5, Biloxi 4, ten innings

Missed opportunities cost Shuckers in extra-inning loss to Smokies

Blake Allemand and Jacob Nottingham homer in the loss on Wednesday

KODAK, TN - The Biloxi Shuckers were walked off for the first time this season, dropping their series opener against the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings on Wednesday. A bases-loaded walk brought in the winning run for the Smokies to hand Biloxi their second straight loss. The Shuckers left 11 runners on base, and at least one in each inning, finishing 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Wisconsin Boxscore

Doubles from the Rattlers' 3/4/5 hitters, Mario Feliciano, Tucker Neuhaus, and Monte Harrison, were not enough as Wisconsin tied the game in the top of the seventh, only to lose it on a sac fly-off a half inning later. A handful of poor night at the plate also saw five players in the Wisconsin lineup finish the game with batting averages under .200. Even at this point in the year, that's a lot.

Trey Supak pitched brilliantly again, logging 5 innings of scoreless baseball. Two hits, two walks, six strikeouts, and his ERA drops to 1.76. Parker Berberet can lose however, and took his first pro loss by allowing both of the Snappers' runs in the last 1 2/3 innings of the game.

Wisconsin Game Log

It could have been more than 1 in the seventh:

Wisconsin Top of the 7th

Tucker Neuhaus doubles (14) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Luis Barrera.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Trever Morrison replaces Tucker Neuhaus.

Monte Harrison doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder Luke Persico. Trever Morrison scores.

Jose Cuas reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by pitcher Heath Bowers. Monte Harrison to 3rd.

Ronnie Gideon reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Eric Marinez. Jose Cuas to 2nd.

Gilbert Lara grounds into a double play, shortstop Eric Marinez to catcher Collin Theroux to first baseman Kyle Nowlin. Monte Harrison out at home. Jose Cuas to 3rd. Ronnie Gideon to 2nd.

Caleb Whalen grounds out, shortstop Eric Marinez to first baseman Kyle Nowlin.

Rattlers, Roegner Win Game Two 4-3

Wisconsin splits doubleheader at Beloit with victory in nightcap

The offense got four runs in the first three innings, and the Rattlers just held on to win after Braden Webb came in to pitch in the bottom of the seventh, and let's just say he didn't have his best stuff.

Same as game one, no Rattler had more than one hit, with doubles going this time to Tucker Neuhaus (again), Ryan Aguilar, and Jose Cuas. Demi Orimoloye, who had been on a bit of a hot streak, took an 0-7 in the two games today.

Cam Roegner, who might be a native of a state you're aware of, allowed one run in six innings of work. He's had issues getting the ball down most of the year, but seemed to do a better job of that today. Webb, as mentioned, came in to work the seventh and walked the first four of five batters he faced, though to his credit he held the Snappers in check before the tying or winning runs could cross the plate. Webb has not had significant control issues for most of the season, so hopefully this is just an aberration.

Wisconsin Game Log

Could have been worse!

Beloit Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Braden Webb replaces Cameron Roegner.

JaVon Shelby walks.

Edwin Diaz walks. JaVon Shelby to 2nd.

Jason Goldstein walks. JaVon Shelby to 3rd. Edwin Diaz to 2nd.

Collin Theroux strikes out swinging.

Eric Marinez walks. JaVon Shelby scores. Edwin Diaz to 3rd. Jason Goldstein to 2nd.

Mike Martin grounds into a force out, shortstop Trever Morrison to second baseman Tucker Neuhaus. Edwin Diaz scores. Jason Goldstein to 3rd. Eric Marinez out at 2nd. Mike Martin to 1st.

Nate Mondou flies out to right fielder Demi Orimoloye.

2017 Hader = 2016 Lopez.

Hard to know if its a CS aberration or a bad indication of things to come. I tend to think CS is snowballing on those guys and once it becomes a mental thing, its hard to overcome it.

It will be interesting if they promote Lopez direct to the MLB club this year and how he handles it once there.
