Must be fascinating to coordinate travel for the Brewers.

With iffy weather in Biloxi, Junior Guerra's start gets moved to Albuquerque.

Guessing no direct flights between those two outposts.

Did Mark A. jump in and arrange a private flight?

Cedar Rapids Tops Wisconsin 4-2

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-2 on a cool, rainy Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Eduardo Del Rosario allowed two runs and struck out eight over eight innings to pick up the win.

Cedar Rapids (25-17) took the lead in the top of the fifth and it was a Wisconsin native who drove in the run. Jaylin Davis singled to start the inning and was bunted to second base. He was still there with two outs. Then, Ben Rortvedt, a 2nd round pick of the 2016 draft out of Verona High School, lined a double to left and Davis scored to put the Kernels up 1-0.

The Kernels scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-0 lead. Ariel Montesino doubled with one out and took third on an infield grounder. Rortvedt drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Rattlers catcher Nathan Rodriguez attempted a pickoff play at third and fired the ball into left and Montesino scored for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin pitcher Nattino Diplan would throw a wild pitch to let Rortvedt to take third and then he hit Aaron Whitehead on a 1-2 pitch. Diplan uncorked another wild pitch that not only let Rortvedt score, but also allowed Whitehead to race around to third base. Christian Cavaness capped the inning with a single to score Whitehead.

The Rattlers (19-20) got on the board against Del Rosario in the bottom of the eighth. The right-hander allowed two hits through his first seven innings, but gave up three hits in the eighth. Demi Orimoloye lined a two-out double into the corner in left field to score Rodriguez and Gilbert Lara. However, Del Rosario ended the inning with a strikeout, his eighth of the game.

Tom Hackimer worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close out the Timber Rattlers.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Zack Brown (0-2, 7.88) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Tyler Beardsley (3-2, 4.37) is set to start for the Kernels. Game time is 1:05pm.

Junior Guerra’s path back to the majors involved a bit of a rough outing on Saturday night in Albuquerque. Guerra surrendered three earned runs in 6.1 innings, giving up 11 hits and a pair of walks while taking the loss. He struck out six batters. The Sky Sox would lose 5-3.

The top bats were Brett Phillips (1-2, 2BB, HR), Nate Orf (3-4) and Ivan De Jesus Jr. (2-4).

Phillips’ 4th inning HR was his ninth on the year. He is now tied for fifth in HRs in the Pacific Coast League.

Lewis Brinson left the game in the bottom of the 3rd. No word as to why.

Final: Biloxi 2, Chattanooga, completed early, 4.5 innings, rain

Shuckers win rain-shortened game over Lookouts

Angel Ortega's two-run homer in the fourth proves to be game-winner

The Biloxi Shuckers won their fifth straight game in a rain-shortened contest Saturday night with a 2-0, five-inning victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts. The win, combined with a Pensacola loss to the Mobile BayBears, gave the Shuckers a share of first place in the Southern League's South Division.

Brett Phillips recorded his ninth home run of the season on an inside-the-park shot in the fourth inning.

Still hoping for video, but until then, here's the Albuquerque Journal's account --

Phillips hit one of shortest home runs in Isotopes Park history Saturday night. Phillips hit a towering fly ball to medium right field in the fourth inning that Isotopes outfielder Domonic Brown never saw. Brown helplessly came in trying to locate the ball, which landed roughly 20 feet behind him.

Phillips noticed Brown’s plight early and hit top speed, easily beating the relay home for an inside-the-park homer. It was the first run allowed by Isotopes pitching in 12 innings.

Nice face, Brett --

Also from the Journal:

Colorado Springs made an interesting choice in the sixth inning with the score tied, two outs and Albuquerque’s Jordan Patterson at second. With relief pitcher Jerry Vasto in the on-deck circle and no one warming in the bullpen, the Sky Sox opted to pitch to Isotopes second baseman Daniel Castro.

Castro lined an RBI single to center to give the ‘Topes the lead.

Vasto, who did not have a previous professional at-bat, grounded out to third.

Final: Winston-Salem 7, Carolina 4

Ray and Gatewood homer in 7-4 loss to Dash

The Dash snapped Carolina's win streak at four straight with a 7-4 series tying victory

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Corey Ray hit his first home run of the season, Jake Gatewood connected on his sixth big fly, but starter Conor Harber gave up five runs over two and 2/3 innings as the Mudcats lost to the Dash 7-4 on Saturday night in Winston-Salem.

See link above for the rest of the recap.

Carolina Box Score

Harber was walked 23 (plus two HBP's) in 33.1 innings -- that's not going to cut it; Corey Ray managed five Florida State League home runs in 2016, so it was a relatively long wait for his first this season...

Carolina Game Log

Huh? You're down three runs!

Carolina Top of the 9th

Luis Aviles reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Brady Conlan.

Cooper Hummel flies out to center fielder Luis Alexander Basabe.

Weston Wilson flies out to center fielder Luis Alexander Basabe.

With Corey Ray batting, Luis Aviles caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Zack Collins to shortstop Johan Cruz.

***

From the game summary:

Aviles also scored a run in the fifth after walking to start the inning and then scoring from first on a RBI double from Cooper Hummel. The RBI double came during Hummel's first at bat of the game, as he originally came in during the third when starting catcher Mitch Ghelfi left with an injury. Hummel has two doubles, a triple and a home run in just three games this season.

Winston-Salem Bottom of the 3rd

Jake Fincher grounds out, shortstop Isan Diaz to first baseman Weston Wilson.

Danny Mendick doubles (8) on a ground ball to left fielder Troy Stokes.

Luis Alexander Basabe called out on strikes.

Trey Michalczewski walks.

Zack Collins walks. Danny Mendick to 3rd. Trey Michalczewski to 2nd.

Louis Silverio doubles (6) on a line drive to left fielder Troy Stokes. Danny Mendick scores. Trey Michalczewski scores. Zack Collins scores.

Keon Barnum singles on a sharp ground ball to shortstop Isan Diaz, deflected by pitcher Conor Harber. Louis Silverio scores.

Pitching Change: Jon Olczak replaces Conor Harber.

Brady Conlan singles on a ground ball to second baseman Luis Aviles. Keon Barnum out at 3rd, second baseman Luis Aviles to third baseman Lucas Erceg.

@BrewerProspect was at this game, and reports on how Ghelfi was injured --
