I thought I saw that Espino was scheduled to pitch today's game for Col Springs? Did I read that wrong? Or could there be an injury situation or perhaps even a call-up that hasn't been announced yet with him? Sorry in advance If I missed something here.

Angel Ventura made a strong AAA debut on Wednesday, getting the win while giving up just two runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four batters. Tristan Archer (2.0 IP, O runs, 0 hits, 0 BB, 2 K) and Tyler Cravy (1.0 IP, 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 K, save) were flawless as they finished out the game without allowing a run, hit or walk - helping the Sky Sox to a 4-2 victory.

The Sky Sox bats were lead by Nate Off (3-4, 2B) - who collected three of the team’s five hits.

After struggling much of the season, Orf has been on fire of late. He has gone 9-18 over this last five games, raising his average from .209 to .271.

Kodi with another good outing tarnished by a few pitches. In this case, a rough last inning including leaving inherited runners for his reliever. He's making progress and harnessing his stuff. Great outing as usual for Yamamoto.

Mudcats survive, win 7-5 on Wednesday night

Lucas Erceg hit a two-run homer and Corey Ray had a three-run triple on Wednesday night

By Carolina Mudcats | May 17, 2017 11:24 PM ET

The combination of Jordan Yamamoto (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K) and Kodi Medeiros (5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K) took a no hitter into the 6th inning before yielding a single. Medeiros was actually very good until the 9th inning when he kind of lost it. His previous long outing was 5 innings so perhaps the Mudcats should have been better prepared. They had a 7-0 lead into the 9th and only brought in Nate Griep (1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) when the tying run came to the plate. He then gave up a double to put the tying run at second before retiring the next hitter on a chop to short.

The offense only managed 5 hits but drew 9 walks. Corey Ray (1-3, 3B, 3 RBI, BB), Jake Gatewood (1-2, 2B, 2 BB), Lucas Erceg (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB), Trent Clark (1-3, BB, RBI, SB) and Troy Stokes Jr. (1-3, 3B, BB, SB) led the way.

Carolina Game Log

Well a win's a win and Kodi Medeiros has made some strides. He is light years better than last year and looks unhittable at times. Just needs a little more consistency. Time will tell on that.

It didn't appear to make much difference at the time but this inning was critical:

Carolina Bottom of the 6th

Trent Clark walks.

Troy Stokes Jr. walks. Trent Clark to 2nd.

With Mitch Ghelfi batting, Trent Clark steals (8) 3rd base. Troy Stokes Jr. steals (11) 2nd base.

Mitch Ghelfi grounds out, pitcher Adam Choplick to first baseman Chuck Moorman.

Max McDowell walks.

Pitching Change: Kelvin Vasquez replaces Adam Choplick.

Corey Ray triples (2) on a line drive to center fielder Carlos Arroyo. Trent Clark scores. Troy Stokes Jr. Max McDowell scores.

Luis Aviles flies into a double play, center fielder Carlos Arroyo to catcher Carlos Garay to third baseman Josh Altmann. Corey Ray out at home.

Wisconsin Boxscore

Back to .500 again as the offense was once again quiet, but the pitching was even quieter. Tom Jankins posted the longest start in the Brewers organization this year, going 7 2/3 innings. He allowed a run on 4 hits, 2 walks, and he struck out 5 batters. When Jankins is on, he gets ground balls, and get ground balls he did, recording 14 ground ball outs against 1 fly ball out. Dan Brown picked up a save for his second appearance in a row, logging the final 1 1/3 inning, whilst notching two strikeouts and issuing a walk.

No Rattler had more than one hit, though Trever Morrison made his a good one. In his return to the active roster, Morrison knocked his first career home run. Demi Orimoloye also had one hit, a single, but managed to walk twice as well. Tucker Neuhaus drove in the other run on a sac fly in the 6th. Nathan Rodriguez, while hitless, did record to excellent defensive plays to end innings and preserve the win.

I've been assuming they had him at AA because they don't like how his stuff plays in the thin air. Maybe that's wrong; he isn't a high priority. But I think Stearns has said that they're thinking about atmospheric effects in placing pitchers at AA or AAA. It may be more likely that Wilkerson gets promoted directly from AA to the majors if they decide to give him a shot, which I'd love to see.
